Someone's Stalking Me!

Archive: 57 posts

OK, well today, I put a picture (via PSeye) on my pod, and forgot to delete it. Then, when my friend, and this random person joins, the guys steals my picture, puts it on him, and saves the costume. Then he went into his level and posted it on a cardboard square and saved that.

I dont know what to do, I already tried to report it and I did, but I dont think it'll do any good.

I'm very scared, someone please help me.

It's don't.

Back on topic, what is the issue here? I mean, what's going to happen to you now that would be different from before? There's a one in 10000000 chance that some randomer will say:
"Oh yeah, I've seen you in a LBP level,"
apart from that, this is pretty harmless. IMO.

Is the photo of you dressed like a little school girl? I'm not seeing the problem here, maybe explain what the photo is of and you might gain some sympathy.

I don't really see the problem here : they can't really do anything with your pic besides of making fun of it, I mean a TON of people have facebook and almost anyone has access to any profiles and personal pictures anyway so calm down, next time choose carefully who you invite to your pod and with who you share stuff2010-12-04 19:24:00

It's funny that NONE of you have read the terms of agreement. It's against the terms of agreement what he is doing, aka stalking. most of you have probably broken the rules a couple of times too since you obviously don't even know what you can or can't do online.2010-12-04 23:20:00

I'm amazed to see this kind of hysteria over nothing. What are you so worried about? In most of my levels you could somewhere find a photo of Ungreth available for anyone who wants to stick it on their box head, cardboard mask or whatever. What's the worse they're gonna do with it? Laugh at my ugly mug? Impersonate me? Photoshop my head onto a fat Mona Lisa's body, like I did with Bremnen's picture (see avatar)? Does it really matter?

Lighten up and stop freaking out AstroSack. You're not the first victim of face theft and you wont be the last.

C'mon now, I think I speak for all of us when I say that NO ONE EVER READS THE TERMS OF AGREEMENT FOR ANYTHING amirite? No one wants to spend a whole day reading a HUGE block of text for a few rules turned into a huricane of reading.

But honestly, you're getting all worked up over absolutely nothing, he's just going to put the pimple decorations all over you and use you in his next level.

I read the terms of agreement & the only reason people like you don't is because your dumb & don't think it matters & think it will never come back to you, but the one time it actually does you will pay dearly for it cause your a idiot. You act like your not supposed to read it & it's ok, lol just because the average person that YOU are around don't use common sense or have any brains at all doesn't mean there aren't people that do. You are most likely teenager that will be piled in debt for loans in your adult life by people like me so go ahead thinking that way. You only mess up your own life. Go ahead don't ever read important facts that actually matter, only pay attention to what your friends say is cool. I could just target you right now & report you for every little thing you do & get you perma banned if I wanted too because you are too clueless to care lol, because you don't even know when you break the rules cause you are allowing yourself to be an idiot. People likem you are just waiting for something bad to happen lol or for someone with too much care. The brainess masses don't matter in the end, fat & what your supposed to do matters & if you don't read i because that's what the majority is doing that's your fault for being a follower & not having a mind of your own. Evn this web site breaks the terms of agreement lol by promoting their site with stickers lol. No one on here really has a clue about legal stuff. People like you fear Actuary's.

stalking isn't just put on people who follow people around, it can be classified as other things. It can clearly mean pursuing a person, game, ect. stealthy which concerns this situation, Pursuing a person can mean taking & copying their picture without their consent.

Well, everything that is on LBP is owned by MM/Sony, right? - that's what the terms are, if I'm not mistaken. He put it out there, and it got taken. Sure, it's annoying, but I seriously doubt any harm will come out of it.

And seriously - everyone here - just chill out! There's really no need to get so worked up...

Yes I did & did not care, because this website is a pointless one & the info you ignore is important. You also ignored my previous comment, you break the law & I break lawbreakers unofficial rules, that go against the official terms of agreement. If I were the moderators on this website I would just ban your people that Blatantly admit you don't follow any rules, & just cut the problem from it's roots. It's honestly hilarious to me that you have the nerve to tell me about breaking rules on a website that breaks the rules itself, when you don't read any terms of agreements & break official rules of The Playsation Network & the SCEA after you have agreed have you HAVE read all of it & agree to all of it's terms, when you obviously counter the fact that you agree, now when you already have agreed & are obviously using their service that you must agree too to use before usage of it. You should start printing out every page you comment on, seriously.

Woah... woah... WOAH!! Right now, there's a LOT of ridiculous things being said in this thread. I'd love to sit down and rip them apart one by one, but I think it's pretty obvious which statements are beyond silly and unfounded... so it's really not necessary at this point in time. Besides, it just strengthens my opinions about the masses.

To be clear... stalking is a pretty serious thing. Then again, so is accusing someone of being guilty of a crime they haven't yet commited... which as far as I can tell is the case here.

I mean absolutely NO disrespect Astro, but from the information you've given us... this clearly is NOT stalking behaviour from the person in question. I understand your fears, but I honestly think they are unwarranted (again, based solely on the informatin we have from you). There is no way this person can find out any of your personal information simply by having a photo of you. If the police can't effectively track down criminals who's photos they have as well as good video evidence, how do you expect this person to do the same from a grainy PSEye photo? (Boy I wish the quality was better on that thing) Until this person starts constantly attempting to contact you, sending you gifts, or any other of the commonly known "stalking" behaviour... you simply can't announce that they are doing so. It's more wrong of you to accuse this person of stalking than it was of him to copy your sticker.

Yes, there are varying degrees of stalking and both legal as well as social definitions (which differ somewhat depending on the situation and the location).... but snatching up your picture is clearly not one of them. Even if this person put your picture out on the internet... that's not stalking. You might have legal grounds for charging him with personal slander and harrassment... but to my knowledge, it's still not stalking.

To the point of him being 31, or possibly 40... that's neither here nor there. Stalking is not age specific... and as an older person who "hangs out" with younger people both on this forum and in online gaming, I quite frankly find any of those assumptions and statements slightly offensive to say the least.

I think the problem is that the media (who we can all thank for the term "stalking"), have completely made parents and children far too afraid of the world these days. I'm not saying you shouldn't be cautious... but to live in fear is both silly and a waste of your preciouse time here on earth. When I was a kid, if you followed a girl home or to where she hung out it was to find out more about her and try and put yourself into a situation where you could strategically "bump into her" and strike up a conversation. We called it "having a crush"... and now... you people all think it's "stalking". It's ridiculous really. I'm certainly not suggesting this person who took your photo has a crush on you either... I'm simply trying to illustrate my point that the term "stalking" is far too loosely thrown around these days.

If you're of the age where this person might be older and you are concerned... tell your parents. They will know what decision is best to make from here, with regards to contacting Sony or any authorities which might need to be involved. Until this person begins to actually engnage in what is socially or legally considered to be stalking behavior... you can't just go around accusing them of it.

I do hope you get the issue resolved soon, and stay safe.

Oh noes, we done goofed and the Cyber police has back tracked us all! D:
They even sent that guy to get us...WE'RE DOOMED!!!

Look buddy, I don't care who you are or what you are, but reading the rules does not make you a superior at all, I read the rules of agreement, big deal.

Calm down, you say you don't care, but your answers state the contrary.
I don't agree on how Mercuy and TODD are acting either, but I'm not gonna go call myself "Mr. Bigshot" and call them idiots.

Calm down, take a deep breath and relax, you should care nothing wether they break the rules or not, not your company, not your problem, become a SONY/ Mm employee and you can tell them off hwever you want, but in the meantime its none of your business, if the ones taht made the EULA don't care, why should you?

PS: Mm supports this site, if it was illegal, they would've taken it down long ago, feel free to contat Spaff or Tom, adn tell them to take it down for being 'illegal' or whatnot if you want.

Also, I don't think people will listen to you 'Mr. Follow all rules', if you yourself say you don't care to follow the rules on this site, its obvious you can just as easly be liying about reading all rules to seem superior, because other than that your arguments have no real point.

Look, its their life, their errors, not yours, if they wanna mess up, that's their deal, heck who knows, they may know well what they're doing, and indeed foollow the rules, and just keep arguing to make you respond, just let it go, it doesn't matter, in your anger you forgot what the original point you were making was and got absorved into the discussion, doesn't seem like you remember what you were fighting for m8. :/

again another person who did not read previous post that said why I was here. In truth & in reality, not your fantasy world, if you do not want to agree with terms of agreement you should leave the playstation network & produce your very own gaming system with your own terms that allow these actions.

I believe you have yet to do thsat yerself.

Anywho, you got no proof of being a SCEA employee or anyone with authority to apply any 'law' against this site, we do have a verified SCEA employee on the forum (and various Mm employees) feel free to consult them.

Either way, you still have no right to ban anyone or get annyone bannedm Specially if you're a SCEA employee as you claim to be, they didn't read the rules, they never said they broke them, nor do you have proof of so, and I for one have yet to put an LBPC sticker on any level of mine, (also, I believe the rule goes for advertising products or thhings for profit.) so banning anyone here merely ona whim would bring more trouble to you than us, so...yeah, not a smart move either.

Now calm down and try to remember why you joined this thread to begin with, before you derail it any further with your banning talk and whatnot.

Ok, I'll speak on a less sarcastic note now:

I have not read the NDA and I have no regrets.

I do not have a disrespect for laws and I am not dumb or irresponsible as you would argue, and also, I and most others don't think it's as big a deal as you're making it.

The fact is, I don't have time to read every agreement to every program or software I ever downloaded. If I did, I wouldn't do it anyway because I don't see a reason to. Take a look at what the NDA covers and I'm recollecting/assuming that it's mostly about law and avoidable situations. I go on my PS3 to play games. I don't flame, troll, gameshare, or impair the experiences of other users. In the unlikely case that I am the victim of such offenses and I can't casually ignore it for whatever reason, the NDA is there in the LBP pause menu and on the internet. Great reference tool, not-so-great document to be read or commited to memory.

There are PS3 users out there (certain LBPCentral moderators, for example) that are familiar with it. They have good reason to be because problems regularly arise here that can be solved with the help of the NDA. I'm not like them, I'm just your average gamer.

Few people read the NDA and Sony knows this, mostly because the majority of their players are just your average gamers. Some modern agreements require you to scroll to the bottom before you can accept or proceed. Sony doesn't even do this, let alone add any kind of timer or proof that you've read any of it. They just show you a small block of the first few paragraphs of text because they want their customers' experience to be enjoyable, and reading an NDA isn't appealing.

Just send them a polite message asking why they did it and if they could please delete it. It is kinda wierd as to why someone would do that, but I higly doubt it's anything to be scared about. As I said, a PSN message will probably clear it all up.2010-12-05 11:17:00

Alright, fellas. Things have gotten a bit out of hand, and I hope we can move beyond that from here. Innovation87, you are very much entitled to your opinions, but when you come onto our site to personally attack other members, we are going to have problems. Making sweeping generalizations about everyone who disagrees with you is probably the least intelligible way to make your make point, which is ironic since your arguments are meant to belittle others and insult their intelligence. If posts of this nature continue, we have no choice but to bring on the discontinuation of your presence here. I don't want that for you, and I hope you choose to think about how there are people behind these usernames - these people have certain site rights owed to them by following site rules, rights that you forego when you choose to break them. It's really not too difficult to have a nice experience with LBPC - just be respectful to others, treat them as any person deserves to be treated.

As for the issue of the 'Terms and Conditions,' I believe that it's accurate that most people do not read most of them. I think I've read the LBP EULA, only because I take great stake in the content that I create in the LBP editor, and thus want to know what where my rights as a creator end. Most other agreements, though, I gloss over. The purpose of these is to provide legal protection, which can often be regarded as redundant as long as I use common sense.

Does that make me 'stupid' or 'an idiot'? I don't think it does.

Let's put this behind us and move forward from here. I hope the issue presented by the OP is resolved swiftly and quickly.

Hows about we pull this thread back on track now and may I remind you all that you are all subject to the rules of this site whilst posting here - if you don't like that you can leave.

Also, if you have any concerns about the "legality" of the site please feel free to bring it up in the appropriate place (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?19-Site-Feedback), I'm sure we can pass the concerns onto our contacts at MM, SCEA and SCEE and see if they actually care

I don't think we can go any further without politely messaging this guy astro, without that we're just debating the intentions of someone we have never met.2010-12-05 13:44:00

To the point of him being 31, or possibly 40... that's neither here nor there. Stalking is not age specific... and as an older person who "hangs out" with younger people both on this forum and in online gaming, I quite frankly find any of those assumptions and statements slightly offensive to say the least.

Yeah, I wondered at this too Rustbukkit. Some posters here seem to have a very distorted view of adult players. I'm guessing their mothers must hide 'em under skirt every time a man walks by on the street. Statistically, you are more likely to be abused by your own brother in your own home than by a stranger you met on the internet, but hard facts make little difference to kids who have been conditioned into this kind of hysterical and paranoid thinking by the media.

Or maybe, older players like you and I are just too insightless to realise that were a bunch of sad older men in a kids game, or that the kids are whispering about us when we're not there and keeping their backs to the wall when we appear. I dunno, but I am starting to wonder whether I'm too old to be hanging around this "kiddies playground" we call LBP. Perhaps it's time to retire from the game, leave the kids to play on their own, and let them feel safe in their sheltered little world without hairy-faced men like me to freak em out.

Surely it's your own fault for
A. Letting the person into your pod
B. Not deleting said picture when you let a complete stranger into your pod.
C. Then you go into his create mode and watch him putting it on a piece of cardboard and not thinking... I could delete that but instead I'm going to let him do it.

and guys, Innovation doesn't deserve your attention, he obviously has such a rich life where he can say it's his job and then claim he has no affiliation with the companies who actually moderate the littlebiguniverse. So I'd just leave him alone or give him some particularly long EULAs to read.

Because you met this "stalker" on an online game, he could live thousands of miles away from you. It is very likely that you will never see that person again for the rest of your life, so I wouldn't worry about it.

That would be sad, because it is usually the older players who make levels that are actually worth playing. And as for the argument that adults shouldn't play LittleBigPlanet... who do you think made the game? I thought that I was too old for trick-or-treating, so while my friends had candy, I didn't. And, since my friends didn't care about bring "too old" for trick-or-treating, it worked out for them- they got free candy!

Last time I checked, LBP was rated E for Everyone.
Just like there are 'bad adults,' theres many bad teens and children, bandals.

Heck, I'd be more scared if a teen was stalking me, than if an adult was, they're sneakier and stuff.
(Not to mention they're bound to have more resources and be more inconspicious if you see one wondering near a house, than an adult. XD)

But don't worry m8, as long as they don't have any info of you (Name, adress, phone, etc.) you should be fine, so I can reccomend you to relax, there are plenty of unstalked people who've placed their or other's pic in LBP levels, its highly unlikely anyone will specificly look at yours and thinks something about it, other than wether it looks good/ bad.

Ok... ok, thank you rustbukkit for this, that helped, and no offense intended saying the dude was a 31 year old.

Everyone else, please stop bullying each other, innovation, while you tried to help me out, you did, but in an un-friendly way. Also, everyone thats leaving smart reamarks on everything, please stop. This is a topic meant for serious talk. And yes, I found the guy who took my picture, and forced him to delete it, so no more worries.

The thing is, I'm really disheartened by the arguing, smart-alec (lolz not you Alec), and name calling going on in this thread. MOD's thanks for your help, its appritiated, as well as everyone else. Please show everyone your sorry by thanking this post. I want everyone here to do so.

Woah... woah...

I'm not sure, but that might have been an attempt to gain Rep points. I could be wrong though.

ESPECIALLY me. :kz:

Wait, what's going on? I just got here. Ah well, there was a chance to insult myself, and I had to take it. Ah well.

But yeah, mods, if I may... I'd say that guy was the definition of a troll, so I think we might as well rid ourselves of him and whatever he's talking about. Or not. I unno. Just saying I think you should. Not astro btw, the guy whose name began with i... illusion or whatever. But yeah. Um...

I don't think you have anything to worry about though /runs

That still falls under the "attacking another member" rule, and I think Comph and Rtm were pretty clear that it's time to drop it If you have suggestions for how moderating should be handled, especially when it deals with a specific member, might I suggest the report or pm functions? .... or, in a situation where we've already stepped in, have faith that we're actually kind of ok at our jobs
