Level...overheats?

Archive: 6 posts

Hello! This is my first post, and I'm posting it in the hopes that it will get the most attention on these forums and someone might be able to help me! I have been working on a stage for quite some time now, I finally got around to completing it, but my problem is that... I think it overheats DURING game play. My theory for this is because while testing the stage, I noticed that explosions, for some reason, add to the thermometer permanently. I suspect it's because of the black char the explosives leave behind counting as stickers?

The problem is exactly this. My stage is a battle stage. There are many things you must shoot with the paintinator while progressing through the stage. The offenders, too, fire many shots of all sorts of things. During the gameplay test I run myself, the enemies, and the paintinator, simultaneously cease firing.

In any case, when I completed my stage, the thermometer was NOT full, but close to it. I'd say at about 90% full. Is there anything I can do other than deleting things and making my level less awesome? I already made it shorter than intended, so shortening it further will be an immense disappointment. :

Also. Am I even right in thinking this is the cause of my problems? I'm hoping someone can answer me. I'm really eager to publish my stage.

I often copy a part of the level, delete the part, set an emitter to emit the part, and when it has emitted the part of the level, set the emitter to emit a piece of dark matter, but never let it emit it. That's how you save thermo. 2010-12-04 10:06:00

Make sure stuff that does NOT need to be moving is glued to either DM or the ground.

Use less complex shapes in areas that the player wont see.

Use like 4-5 materials at most.

If there are emitters make sure they emit the least amount possible to make your level work. so instead of lifetime infinite set it to like 15 seconds. if you only need one of something make sure you only have it emit once.

Thats all i can really say.

There are some threads on how to cheat the thermo in the tutorial section.

And not really how to cheat the thermo, but still a useful read.

As for the paintanator problem.
The paintinator is affected by your Stickers and Decorations Thermo in that each paintball produces splat stickers when they strike a surface. If your Stickers and Decorations Thermo is too high, it may result in the paintinator not working, and will "click" as if out of paint. There may be other unconfirmed factors here.

Apart from what has been said upon this thread,

Corner edit as much as possible. Even if it just involves you with skimming along a complex shape with the tool deleting corners that you dont need, it will help you preserve(keep a good relationship with) your thermometer

And trust me! you want a good relationship with it, because one minute it can be nice and jolly, but the next it can be red with anger and a bit hot under the collar :hero: See what I did there?

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the replies everyone! Thanks to your help I was able to overcome the problem! The stage is done now, so if any of you would like, you can enjoy it now. It's called Central Highway, it's a replica of the very first stage of Mega Man X! It's a tough one, good luck everyone! There are some complicated robots to be rewarded with if you can manage to ace it!2010-12-06 06:41:00

Glad you fixed it, pretty sure you're right about the explosion stickers. If only they disappeared after a set amount of time, same with paint splats.2010-12-06 19:11:00
