Merge Objects using Checkpoints!

Archive: 15 posts

I've discovered a new glitch! It allows you to merge objects even with grid mode, but without all the hassle of setting up emitters. The only drawback is that for it to work there can't be any checkpoints already in the level.

1. If there are already any checkpoints in the level, delete them. (If there's only one, duplicate it and delete both at once.) Also make sure you are in Pause Mode.
2. Get the object you want to merge, and place a checkpoint a small distance away from it.
3. Capture both the object and the checkpoint at once.
4. Delete both the object and the checkpoint.
5. Select the object from the My Objects page, but DON'T PLACE IT YET! Instead, move it over to where you want to merge it.
6. Press the Cancel button. The game will place the object regardless, even if it means overlapping it with another object!
7. Glue the two objects together so that they don't break in Play Mode.

Mmm, good idea, I knew that selecting a checkpoint when there is none in a room adds it anyways, but I didn't know that you could do this !2010-12-04 02:55:00

Do you have to capture the object, or can you just select both the object and the checkpoint, copy them and do it that way?2010-12-07 00:42:00

You have to capture them, since it only works if there are no checkpoints in the level beforehand. Though I suppose it would work if one player copied them, another player deleted the existing checkpoint, and then the first player "cancel-pasted" them.2010-12-07 20:11:00

Nice catch!

It's incredible that something like this hasn't been discovered before, after all this time. Wonder if it works in the beta...

Great discovery!

I think this is better than TINTED's merge tool because on his you have to use it offlline, or on your own, to prevent a horrible lag. And his is made up of many small pieces of material, and you HAVE to use it paused, in grid mode.

However his is better 'cos it merges things alot smoother.

Oh, and his doesn't glue things together.

I'll try this A.S.A.P.

Alright, discovered something new about this... The checkpoint and the rest of the object are linked together the way Story Objects and other people's community objects are. Meaning that trying to delete the checkpoint will also delete the rest of the object. Weird...2010-12-14 06:53:00

You can do this:

Place the ceptured object on the ground
Move the checkpoint away from the object
In your popit get out stone and place it
Make it bigger
Picking it up with the popit, pust the checkpoint into the ground
If the stone is big enough, the checkpoint should get squshed and distroyed

This is an awsome dicovery! i would have needed this when first makeing my level...

Well, this is a jolly good thing. Well done!

Yep, still works in LBP2. Though now it's more tedious to do, since they fixed the checkpoint deletion trick (i.e. deleting the last two checkpoints simultaneously)...2011-01-31 20:00:00
