Sneak Peek - New Costume

Archive: 32 posts

I was going to post this in the "Beta Costumes" thread, but thought not to as we don't actually have it in the beta.

It's a picture from a game magazine that I snapped a quick picture of seeing as it's magazine many people will never have access to and get to see. I know, it's naughty, but I couldn't resist sharing it with you all.

I'm betting the hair is part of the aviators cap, but its still an awesome costume piece. I have a character this will suit perfectly! Looks great!

AH, aviators cap, finally...

It will probably be nearly as popular as the top hat! Nothing beats the top hat though...

Avalonia costume, I bets me mum.

Avalonia... is that a character from a game or film? Tried googling it, but nothing came up under images. I always like seeing the translation the designers at Mm make from an already known character design to LBP.

EDIT: I'll take that bet! I'll bet your mum against my sister.

It's probably based on Avalon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avalon). I can't remember where I've heard of this before, but looking at that page, apparently it's where Excalibur was forged.

EDIT: On topic: Is that flower part of the costume too?

Yes, it's great to see Steampunk gaining more popularity in the game and general public alike. I'm not sure if it's Mm trying to make Steampunk more prevalent because of the amount of nice little Steampunk levels made in LBP, or just because it's a great era to pull from visually (though technically Aviator Caps aren't from the Victorian era) ... but either way, I'm super happy to see this content being added to the game.

Speaking of aviators caps, I have a beautiful one in MINT condition from WWII that's leather has a manufacturer's stamp of 1942, and has the original pilot's initials and last name marked into the material as well. It's pretty sweet, and a great example of the fine craftsmanship and history of the times.

Well I'd hope that it's very "loosely" based on Avalon... considering the massive amount of time that spans between the two time frames. lolz

As for the flower... tough to say as this costume hasn't been released in the beta. I'm guessing it is, but hoping it isn't. I hate when fluffy flowery things are added to costume pieces like that, as it really limits the uses. Just look at the Summer Solstace Druid costume for example... a great cloak completely rendered useless because of one little flower. I'd really like to see Mm start making things like that separate elements of the costumes... especially now that sackbots have blown the possibilities of NPC's wide open.

Well avalon is a character from LBP2 so maybe avalonia is his group of levels? i haven heard it called that though, and he seems to be more kind of futuristic and spacey than victoria, despite the fact that Giant Spaceship is Higginbotham's 2010-12-03 18:37:00

No, just kidding! It's really great!

Just hope than the girl hair are not part of that aviator cap, cause they look really well integrated... :/ no?

Interesting theory. This just makes me wonder more where kodymcq is getting his notions and speculations from. His assumptions better be right for his Mum's sake. I have a lot of chores around the house I'd like her to help with once I win her in the bet. Hmmmm... I wonder if she's any good at doing taxes?

Wow, that's a great conceptual render you did there! Nice work!

Actually, other than the pig-tails, lack of bomber jacket and beard, and the corset... the two are identical. But seriosly, while the idea of an Aviator costume isn't very unique and a pretty common desire in the community, I wouldn't totally discount that being a possibility!

As for the hair, I hope it's seperate as well. Though it DOES look to be well integrated.

I love the style of new costumes they really improved in there own style compire to LBP1, it's probably because they can concentrate on this kind off stuff since in LBP2 they already have fundaments in form of LBP12010-12-03 19:11:00

The hair looks very well joined but I hope it's seperate, the two pieces look very useful, as does the rest. I have a few Steampunk characters/designs for a planned 'saga' that stuff like this'd be perfect for. It's a long shot, but it'd be awesome if the jacket is seperate to the top as well.

Does anyone else notice the second 'belt' on the right edge of the page? I'm trying to work out what it's for (:

If you're referring to the one about chest height on the chracter, I'm pretty sure it's the buckle from the aviator cap's chin strap. That, or possibly a buckle on the sleeve cuff of the jacket... but I'm fairly confident it's from the cap.

It doesn't seem like a costume from Avalonia. I was thinking more along the lines of the Steam & Cake levels.2010-12-20 05:49:00

So many details, these costumes looks fantastic!

I hope that they will be in the game, that they're not just promotional characters.

Back to talk of Avalon, i think i heard Alex Evans say in the HipHop Gamer interview that Avalon was loosely based upon the wizard of Oz, as in he is all talk and huge ego but isnt a particularly special guy when you get down to it.
Theory on the story: Avalon is actually a sackperson who either believes he is or strongly wants to be more important than other sackfolk. Think about it he looks like a sackboy, and is not alot taller than one either.
