Deliver me from Eve: The Moolah Nightmarket

Archive: 91 posts

The White Queen has sent you to fetch Master Origami. You must traverse the busy Moolah Nightmarket in search of his secret workshop. Take in the sights, sounds and smells... but don't dawdle to long or she will have your head.

From Community Spotlight 58:
Want a vast world to explore stock full of neat quests and cool characters? Check out Deliver me from Eve: The Moolah Nightmarket by pickled-punk.

Really good video -made of the beta version of this level- by Cog (the-mighty-sackbot-slapper):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrL4vfRgE5Y

Great music, once again, by the mighty SevenIsACanibal.

http://lbp.me/v/wqtwv9

Cameo note: For those of you who'd like a cameo of their favourite sackling in one of my levels, please send me a cool picture of the costume, with a little description. I'll try and give your sackperson a nice place in one of my upcoming levels. The costume has to fit the atmosphere of the level offcourse.
DLC that I can use: GotY, the free seasonal stuff, Ico pack, Pirates of the Carribean, Ragdoll Kungfu, Watchmen & Marvel-costumes.

i played it and thought it was pretty cool, one suggestion if youre willing to listen is that at the end i didnt know where the winch was, so i wandered about for about 15 minutes trying to find master origami or the scoreboard if you added a cut scene to show that you turned on a winch when you pull the switch it would make the ending more ... i dont know fun/accessible/understandable nice level all round though2010-12-02 17:50:00

Thanks Skalio. You're right, I'll see what I can do. Thermo is about to go to the roof, can't add a single sticker, or change a vertice with the cornereditor, without overheating the level. Adding a cut scene is probably not possible, but maybe I can add a simple camera movement to make the direction more clear.

BTW: the promised meeting with Master Origami will take place in the next level.

I played it i like the climat of the level, it's very labirintic it nicly blends with rest of the level, only problem with that, when you fall, it's annoying2010-12-03 18:44:00

Thanks guys.
Hey, Skalio, I'm hard at work at two levels atm: 'Eve's Gaol' and 'Master Origami's Secret Workshop'. Coming soon.

Shadowriver, yes, I agree, the falls are annoying, but I wanted to keep the level continous, and didn't want to add arbitrary spikes or gas. I did take care to place the savepoints right, so if you fall you can always pop to get another try at the parcours.

loved the music, level design, and visuals (like i said in the review i wanted my sackboy to live in that world)

and i agree adding spikes and gas to kill you in falls ruins the experience so i was happy to pop myself rather then see something that could make the level look ugly

can't wait to see the next part

hopefully you turn this into a complete series for when LBP2 comes out

loved this level, man. i agree wit the good points of both the guys above me... really felt like a naturally flowing world, interconnected and the look/design was great... a real market and slum. the liveliness your sackbot population, dialogue and characters gave it was immense. the FF music fit so nicely... i'd prefer hearing that for the whole level, over the LBP2 track that pops up. even if you ever go for custom music, make sure it has that same vibe.2010-12-04 15:39:00

I saw your first level through the video, and it looked awesome! May I ask of a video for this, too? I mean, if you have spare time, considering you're making the next level in the series.2010-12-04 23:28:00

Thanks for the encouragment, guys!

NinjaMicWiz, you're probably right about the music. I really love the stuff that SevenIsaCannibal does. Maybe I can use another of his tracks for the hectic sackbot buildingsite.

Prince Pixelton, the awesome Cog is willing to do another recording of my level.

Hey Shadowcrazy, pick your residence, there are still some vacant houses near the bar. (If you don't mind those boisterous mushroom-drunks keeping you up all night).

I will definately re-create and continue the series when LBP2 comes out.

I can see this series filling up all 20 level slots and being the one of the greats in LBP2

and as for my residency near the bar? lol no prob as long as that calming FF tune is around and they have a Pina Colada type drink in that world lol...but then again I might be strolling through the slums at night just enjoying the view and some fireflies

But... how to cheat that thermo...

remember the less different materials you use the better...so keep that in mind and also you can mess around with the textures and other things

but yeah im sure some big names around here can help you with that when the full game comes out...who knows maybe the thermo will be bigger by then or something

hope MODS will forgive this bump since I'm filling it with stuff other then words.

anyways played again and couldn't find ANYWHERE to set up HOME in the nightmarket lol you filled it all up...so maybe there's another district in the NightMarket? lol

anyways thought I'd upload some pics of Shadowcrazy in another piece of clothing I have called the "Shadow Hatter" Set...it'll look better in LBP2 with the increased limit in stickers and decos but yeah here he is so far:

http://beta.lbp.me/img/ft/41507a564b15610c91339c9ebd0cdf6ec5546a53.jpg
http://beta.lbp.me/img/ft/52143bf69892188254bdbd7599a1e75c7996b2fc.jpg

oh and sorry for adding this lil backstory even tho it's your level but:

http://beta.lbp.me/img/ft/081e22027ecb193f64cb7717a56f4dfbc5ac62f7.jpg

shadowcrazy is in love with the white queen...and if he's in your next level or in another level with his home in the NightMarket I'd like the player to know his love for the white queen...plus since he's a hatter he is pretty insane so he hates her dictatorship but still loves her and loves walking around the NightMarket regardless of the warnings about the wallet stealers.

but yeah lol don't think of this as a command or anything it's just a backstory my character had when i played this level and thought I'd share with you

anyways can't wait to see the next level in the series and hope to see how my home will look like with my lil dude strolling around looking at fireflies

and skalio- i suggest you do the same as well...oooh and leave a sticky note inside too...thats what i did to describe how he'd fit in pickle's world

so yeah when pickle accepts the friend request i'll have him ready to send

lol another cool thing about my hatter is that he's also a nod to the cheshire cat...simply by is 2nd smile (pressing UP 2 times before the tongue one) in a dark place and you see his two glowing eyes and that shiny grin

also sackbot is sent (sent it two times just incase the first one didn't register)

Hi pickled-punk

I played your level last night and loved it! It was such fun exploring all the little nooks and crannies and stumbling into secret areas. The whole thing was beautifully decorated - it had great charm and all of your now trademark quirkiness. The sackbots in particular were full of character, as were the mushrooms (did I recognise them from one of your earlier levels or certainly some of their friends and relations, lol?).

The climbing and exploring gameplay was fun too and even the falling and popping yourself somehow suited the level - I'm so glad you didn't go for spikes and gas!

I can't wait for the next level in this series!

No, you're right Skalio: as usual I'm working on two levels at the same time, Eve's Gaol & The Adventurer's District. And making good progress on both levels.
I'll try and keep the area of Adventurer's District somewhat more contained, so that I can go all out with materials, decorations & sackbots.

Prince Pixelton, yes, the idea is to have some of your characters make a cameo-appearance in my next level. Post a cool picture and send me a dressed up sackbot, and I'll try and give the sackling a nice place.

Shrops, good to hear from you! And you're absolutely right: all those pesky mushrooms are related somehow. Nasty creatures... lol

made by SevenISACannibal he states this in the level's description...so that's who you need to ask about using music...so once LBP2 is out or if you have the beta look for that PSN and ask him yourself

oh and those 2 music tracks are from final fantasy:

Final Fantasy 7 - interrupted by fireworks
Final Fantasy 8 - balamb garden

Just published a new installment in my Deliver me from Eve storyline: Adventurer's District. Go check it out!

Also someone was kind enough to report a weird glitch in my first Deliver me from Eve level. The Hint system I had created doesn't work anymore. Stickerswitches can still be triggered by stickers from your poppit, but not by the stickers from the hint-balloons. Strange.

and WOW it looks like a mirror image of the BETA version except with some more people and stuff

Lol.

Thermo is killing me on these levels, I have to be very, very cautious when adding stuff. But we'll get to the Hatters house eventually.

In the meantime, I'm finishing up the next part: Adventurer's District. Then I'll do the all new stuff.

And Mister Shadowhatter v.2011 looks great.

lol thanks I love him too...I feel like this is pokemon and i just created an evolved form....except now this is LBP2 version Shadow Hatter ....still have my LBP1 Shadow Hatter for safe keeping just in-case.

as for thermo remember the less complicated materials used the less the thermo takes...using the basic materials could help reduce thermo

but yeah i'll give it a week before asking the LBP2 community for a LBP2 thermo guide to see if we have improvements...but using more of the same material helps to keep thermo quiet...also using less/no dark matter (anti-gravity tweaker logic piece could probably cost less thermo if you need something to hold up objects)

but yeah you probably know this all...anyways hopefully this won't be a problem once you start the Deliver me STORY MODE...cuz yeah Shadow Hatter's gonna be all up in that **** making shenanigans and trying to obtain the queen's love

LBP2 makes creating so much more stream-lined. Advanced glue, hiding layers, that AV texture shifter and of course that sticker cut out tool: you wonder how we ever managed without it!

I guess I'll always be at war with the thermo, because I like intricate shapes and diversity of materials. I'm pleasantly suprised, however, over how many sackbots you can use in a level.

I just discovered that you can no longer use stickers that you take from the surroundings in a level to trigger a stickerswitch.

Stickerswitches can still be triggered by stickers from your poppit, but NOT (for example) by the stickers from the hint-balloons that I developed for the Deliver me from Eve-level from the beta. With the last beta-patch this changed, but I was still hoping LBP2 would make it possible again.

I'll have to think of another way to make levels like this playable for everyone. Anyone a good idea?

maybe there is another way

but aren't those stickers in your pop-it anyways? maybe just make the hint bubbles give out little riddle hints to which sticker to use in what place ya know?

if not im sure there's a "logical" thing you can do to make some other effect...but yeah hope you find a way to make it work as i loved that gameplay aspect

so yeah questions:

1. are all the free roam areas in the Deliver me series going to be separate levels? and if so will the entire Deliver me series STORY MODE be just one big level with level links (you know you can make levels into sub-levels, this makes them invisible so you can have just one level with all levels within...like if it was a CD...pretty cool )?

2. can we get a mini description of the STORY mode? I'd like to know a bit of the story and why the White queen is the way she is. plus interested in seeing how the Shadow Hatter and the Rabbit (still building you the rabbit) will play into STORY MODE and if their roles will make them memorable characters in the end.

and yeah lol thats all i got

I'd like to build in a sort of help-system, because not very player will have all the LBP1 & 2 stickers in his poppit. A level as my first Deliver me from Eve beta-level could become unfinishable for those players.
I'll try and find a solution.

I have got a nice idea about ordening the City districts around a central hub-level. (Working on that at the moment.)

I'll try and reveal more about the story on short notice.

(Hmmm... still have to finish the new story mode...)

im sure you'll think of a good help system

as for that HUB level just remember to make it a REAL free roam level as well....it could be the CENTER of the Deliver me series world and you'd have many ROADS, each with a level link at the end of them that activate automatically when in range...so you could leave a sign that one goes to the moolah nightmarket and when people keep walking that direction they are automatically entered into the pin since you told them you'd go there...know what i mean?

curious to know why you needed dr.H (you know who) but his hat isn't as epic as mine so I shouldn't fear for competition.

also wondering since it seems Deliver me from Eve will be your full LBP2 game for your account with a story mode are you going to be like LBP2 and have some levels be a specific cutscene only? because yeah that would definitely be nice and those cutscene segments could be where we do our voice acting and such

Hey Shadow, good to hear you liked Carcosa Gate.
Indeed I want to experiment with some more cutscenes in the future. Don't know if I'll be making whole movie levels, I like some gamer activity in my levels.

Yep, that thieving monkey is lurking on the roofs of the Adventurers District already... go hunt him down...

I've also added an extra secret area in each of the districts.... you need to be able to 'draw a door' to enter...

YAY!

I'm sure it will be great without the unfortunate lag I had when playing it with you before!

Congrats! I've onlly played one of your levels, but it was really cool.
And when do I get to in the series? Hmmmm, do you want an updated costume? I made a few new costumes, I'll show you if want to see them.

Thanks guys!

Working on Cuckoo Clockwork Quarter at the moment. It's a large area filled with all kinds of inventors and anarchists. Imagine being trapped inside a giant cuckoo's clock. I'm fleshing out the Hatters workshop now, hope to fit it all in one level (otherwise I'll have to use a level link).

And sure send me some cool new costumes, DaddyDoodle.

hoping with ya too friend...also i'm missing my old hatter very much (the one you used for the beta) so I was wondering if there will be a flashback sequence or maybe an event in the story that can change the hatter back to his original BETA appearance? just wondering if not it's cool but if it can happen I'd like to see that (BETA hatter looks better when he smiles while new hatter is kind of normal) but yeah i love them both unconditionally (technically they're the same sackperson...just different clothing anyways)

so yeah lemme know...

also you should buy the HEAVY RAIN pack lol so I can give you the original hatter's cool jacket and tie lol...not sayin you HAVE to obviously but would make your options for sackbot clothing better and then you'd be able to use BETA hatter in his original jacket (if not i can switch his jacket no problem)

I think I'll add this series to my queue for tomorrow. I do wonder if you're still taking requests for adding cameos of other people's sackfolk. I mean, you already have quite a few levels up, and I don't yet know if you'll be finishing up soon.2011-03-09 00:41:00

Thanks Shadow-guys!
Shadow Wolf: I won't be finishing the storyline soon, there will be a LOT more levels. I do have a lot of request for cameo's that I still need to place. But I'm always happy to accept another cool & suitable costume.

Shadowcrazy: still waiting for the upcoming new DLC before I buy any new stuff. I've got some flashback, flasforwards, a dream sequence & some other weird stuff planned, but it will be a while before I get to it. (Once in a while I do need some sleep...)
But great, send me an old version of the Hatter. (I've only got it on my beta-account.)
