The 2nd Annual LBPCentral Awards Show! Voting Closed

Hello there Happy Gadders!

It's exactly December 1, 2010 (well, it is in my time), so you know what that means: the holidays are coming! So in celebration of the love fest and holiday spirit that?s going to take place, I think it's high time we take part in this year?s annual event, since it was such a big hit last year.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 2010 edition of ?The LBPCentral?s Awards Show!?

So here's the works. The voter, that?s you, will be deciding who brings home the award. That's right. All you have to do is cast a name in the imaginary box (AKA post it on the thread), or PM me if you want it to be private. Simple, right?

Now before we begin, we need to go over some rules and consequences. Trust me when I say that these rules will help both you and me in making this show successful. So please, read this before you do something you might regret.

Rules
1. No voting for yourself. *

2. If you're going to argue, then take it somewhere else. I will not tolerate someone who finds someone else's vote different, offensive, or just plain stupid. With that said, stay clear from arguments because everyone who participates in the argument will face the consequence that?s appointed to this rule. **

3. If you want to vote privately, then PM me.

4. If you want to change your vote, then edit your post. This will be helpful for me. DO NOT VOTE (POST) TWICE. *

5. NO BRIBING THE VOTERS, NOMINEES, OR HOST(S). I understand this didn?t happen last year, but I have been bribed a few times this year on some minor contests, so I want to make sure this doesn?t happen on this show. **

6. Stay on topic. You may post about the show or something relative to it (ex. complimenting someone who you think should win an award, or just plain out chatting with the other voters). This rule coincides with the next rule:

7. NO SPAM! Spam is a delicious food product that belongs on the dinner table, not on this thread. **

Consequences
* The vote will be considered invalid until further notice.
** You?re vote will discarded and your name will be removed from public voting, thus rendering you from winning an award.

Note: I am not held responsible for any infractions, bans, arguments, threats, nor anything of that nature. If something happens (i.e. you best friend hates you) and/or you just hate the show for whatever reason, then I?m not going to bother with you.

Now that we covered the rules, we can officially start the voting process!

Newcomer Award
Who?s been here a year or less and already made an impact on the site?

Contributor Award
They lend a helping hand, whether it's through contest, Co-Op Creating, or simply making some arts and crafts with you. Either way, they?re always here to help and give back to the community one way or another. This is awarded to whom the members think has given the ?best? contribution of them all.

News Reporter Award
They dig up the dirty stuff. They seek the truth, the sole truth, and nothing but the truth. They know what the new content is coming up before anyone, but they're willing to share it.

PS3 Rookie Designer Award
The noobs of the pack, yet they have some of the best levels out there. They must have joined a year ago or less.

Creativity Award
Given to those who are always thinking of new ways to represent themselves in an original fashion; question is, who thinks outside the box better?

PS3 Creator Award
Their levels have been praised by many for their outstanding detail and gameplay. They never fail to deliver the best qualities in a level, and they?re always the ones you wait excitingly for another level from them to be released.

Trendsetter Award
Who thinks they?re all that and a bag of chips? Who?s thinks they?re the cool-cat of the group? Who says black is the new white and expects you to follow suit?

This award goes to the most epic leet speaker, emoticon user, or texter ever! (>^-^)>

Go To Person Award
This person has a good head on his/her shoulders and has great values to go with it. Always thinking about their friends first, they?ll definitely be there to support you through your crisis when needed.

Comedian Award
They make you laugh and have an incredible amount of humor in them. Never afraid to be witty and sarcastic for a good laugh, these people will make sure to leave you smiling by the end of the day. Vote for who you think is the funniest.

Friendly Award
This special group people almost never turn down a friend request. Whenever you need a shoulder to cry on, or you simply want to have a conversation with someone, then these guys are there for you whether you?re an old friend or a newcomer.

Thread Weaving Award
They have such an awesome thread, made with 100% cotton. They always have a good thread for you to read and post on. Vote for whomever you think has the best topics on this site.

Pet Lover Award
You got to be obsessed with pets. You must love them, feed them, and even post their pictures online for entertainment purposes. My god? you love them to death!

Missing In Action Award
The most missed inactive users. It's always a sad day to see these members? names pop up once in a while, just out there? somewhere. This award is dedicated to those who shall be remembered forever in our hearts and on this site?s history.

Most Active Award
See them online? See them on the internet? See them in your mirror? Then they go here, so we can see them here as well.

Spirit Award
They cheer you up, post positive comments, and are the very essence of this site. Awarded to the member who is active and always making newcomers feel welcomed.

PS3 F4F Award
There are countless numbers of reviews here, and majority of the levels here are filled with great feedback, but these people have the best feedback to offer. Always excited to play another level, they?re ready to give you the best review they can offer.

Admin/Mod Award
I think it's safe to say that in our world of nonchalant gamers and bloggers, we occasionally run into a problem that is too much for us to handle; that?s where these guys come in! Always looking out for any trouble needing attending to, our site?s staff knows when to come in and settle the dust? most of the time.

Role Model Award
They?re the heroes of our time. They?re the ones who know when to talk and how to pick the right choice. They represent the kindness and maturity of this community and should therefore deserve this award.

LBPCentral Member Of The Year Award
The final award in this segment, and by far the most important. This award goes to who you think has maintained the site in to highest standards. Always putting the community of ahead of themselves, they represent everything we can look for in a person. There?s too many qualities to list, but I think you get the general idea of where this is going. Who do you think is LBPC?s MVP?

Hurray! We finished reading last year?s awards! Whoa ho ho! You thought it was over? Think again silly girl-boy-person, because we need to go over some extra awards! What? You thought 20 awards were enough for this year?s new members? Please, you need to sit down and read the rest to see how much we?ve grown.

PSP Rookie Designer Award
So what if they?re new and still grasping the ropes? Their levels are fun! They must have joined at least 6 months ago or less.

PSP F4F Award
This is just like its brother award; they gave you feedback on your epic scorpion level and are constantly on the lookout for new levels to give feedback to. Why not return the favor?

PSP Creator Award
You loved playing their levels in the palm of your hands? Did you by any chance add them to your Hearted Creators list? Then vote for them to show them how much you like their levels!

Quoted Award
The name says it all. Awarded to the member and his/her quote, they got quoted for the funniest, most embarrassing, and/or smartest thing they've ever said! Vote for your favorite quote and the person you got the quote from.

Trash Talk Award
We?re known for mixing it up both on-site and in-game; who talks the best game?

There, now that we raised the awards count to 25, we can continue to the minor stuff.

Your Opinion Is Needed!
1. If you want a prize for the winners, like XP or Custom Award Sigs, then post the idea and I?ll look into it.

2. If you feel the need to tell me to add or remove a category, then go ahead and post your complaint. I?ll be sure to read and respond as quickly as possible.

3. If you can't understand a category, then ask someone, or post your complaint so I can detail the category on the thread if it is necessary.

4. I will PROBABLY need a co-host this time IF the votes come in by the hundreds (each category is considered one vote, each voting sheet is considered 25 votes). Last year I had nearly 200-300 votes to count, so this year may prove challenging. So, how do you feel about this option?

5. Like the new names and descriptions I made for the categories? If you like them, then awesome! If not, then tell me!

I'm on the PSP right now, so I can't link it. But if anybody here can do it, then I'll be most thankful for it.

It's around the 50-60 pages.

Okay, I think there's been a bit of confusion over the Most Active Award. The award doesn't necessarily go to the person with the highest activity (but it does help), but rather who's most active on the PSN, LBPC chat rooms, etc. As long as you see them almost constantly (heaven forbid in your sleep), then they're considered eligible for the award. Hope that clears things up.

On a serious note, I still don't think it belongs here. I can understand your point, but isn't the show more or less about people just chatting with each other and giving their opinions on how they see members? The "Post something nice about the poster above you (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=23680-Post-something-nice-about-the-poster-above-you-))" thread was pretty much based around giving "feedback" on people, and that stuck around in the General Chat section for a long time... until it was moved to the Forum Games, of course.

the psp side seems slightly sectioned of from the rest of the site.
oddly i only ventured out to the ps3 side a few months ago.(to general chat)

But then that'll ruin the purpose of the whole site coming together in one thread to participate.

To be honest, I held the awards in the General Chat section last year because that section was just booming at the time. This year I was hoping for the same results. I think this section is what's killing the show's attendance. Usually the whole site doesn't start pouring in votes until a week after the voting is opened, but this section hardly gets any attention.

We should probably do something like this. For all we PS3ers know, the best member on the forums could be in the PSP section, or vice versa for the PSPers. We can't really decide who deserves what award if each group barely knows anyone from the other group.

Also, the PSP section wasn't as big last year as it is now, as it only had come out last november.

I think that since the PSP section is in an entirely different section than everything else, we're treating the PSP section as a different site. Perhaps if we were to set out the PSP section on the main page like the PS3 section we would notice more general topics. But if we did that the front page would undoubtedly stretch to the ends of the earth. So how about setting the PS3 forum out like the PSP section? and have links from each leading to the same general forums? I dunno really.

Well that's what I find odd.

Before LBP PSP was released, I made a thread asking for a LBP for PSP section (the site didn't have one back then). CC said it was too early, especially because the game wasn't released yet, but I just thought the PSP section should come in early just like the LBP PS3 came in early.

Before long, CC set up the PSP section, but a few complained that it was in a totally different section rather than on the Forums pages like the PS3 section. CC said it was because the site would looked cramped, so it was better this way. After that, we decided he was right.

BUT NOW, as you can clearly see, the LBP2 section is on the Forums page.

To be honest, I think that was a pretty biased thing there, considering that the PS3 side has gotten larger and the PSP side getting underrated more and more as LBP2 makes its way in.

Can someone explain to me why the show has been moved? I just noticed it was in the Site Feedback section. Last time I checked, I wasn't suggesting any changes to the site.

That was me. I moved it for a couple of reasons...

The "General Stuff" category is conceptually for threads which are neither related to LBP nor LBPC, the "Site Stuff" category is for threads which are related to LBPC, and it's called the "LBPC Awards".
The "General Spam Chat" forum, being the canonical lair of spammers and trolls, tends to be ignored by some of our more discerning readers, and it would seem unfair to exclude them from voting.

I don't think it's quite right here either, but I believe this is the only forum in "Site Stuff" in which non-mods can actually create new threads. Maybe it should just be called "Everything Else LBPC"? Or maybe it should be moved to Site Updates? Not sure yet - we're currently discussing the issue behind the scenes.

At first I thought it should have gone in the community contests...

I considered that too, but that forum is for LBP-related contests, and this doesn't really fit.

To be honest, I held the awards in the General Chat section last year because that section was just booming at the time. This year I was hoping for the same results.

Sounds more like you put it in General Chat, not because it was appropriate, but just to exploit the audience. If that's all it is, then we can just put up a sitewide announcement box like we do for the Spotlight posts. Hopefully that should also solve the unfortunate problem of the PS3/PSP separation.

Might also grab more attention if someone more artistically capable than I (which is pretty much everyone) put together a pretty logo we can include in the notice, and the OP.

I think that since the PSP section is in an entirely different section than everything else, we're treating the PSP section as a different site. Perhaps if we were to set out the PSP section on the main page like the PS3 section we would notice more general topics. But if we did that the front page would undoubtedly stretch to the ends of the earth. So how about setting the PS3 forum out like the PSP section? and have links from each leading to the same general forums? I dunno really.

This is also being discussed behind the scenes, but it's progressing slowly with CC being semi-out-of-action at the moment.

It just seems it'd be waaay easier for everyone to keep track of votes if you have them all in one post, you know?

Now, if I remember last year when we tried to do something similar, there were a lot of hurt feelings when the results came out. I'm reluctant to support these awards again, as I don't think it can be guaranteed that some members won't be offended by the results.

Those are just my thoughts. Have your fun, but ask yourself what the purpose of the awards are. Is it just to stroke egos, or are we capable of having some good, honest fun?

yeah, i figure. oh well. my friends know me and that i'm pretty cool, others have no idea who i am... i've grown to accept that lol hopefully everyone i know and mention regularly knows i support 'em and love 'em to death even if i can't give them all the same credit for every single thing.

All I did was move Original Creator's name from News Reporter to Rookie PS3 Designer ( I voted for him ). I'll try and count some votes l8tr myself.

I'm sorry guys, but I'm going to have to count those as invalid votes.

The general idea is to vote for one person. If you vote for more than one, then it's not really a matter of who you think deserves it but instead it's more or less about just nominating your friends. So you're going to have to go back and edit them. Sorry.

Note To Self: Add that as a rule to avoid the same situation in the future.

That was me. I moved it for a couple of reasons...

The "General Stuff" category is conceptually for threads which are neither related to LBP nor LBPC, the "Site Stuff" category is for threads which are related to LBPC, and it's called the "LBPC Awards".
The "General Spam Chat" forum, being the canonical lair of spammers and trolls, tends to be ignored by some of our more discerning readers, and it would seem unfair to exclude them from voting.

I don't think it's quite right here either, but I believe this is the only forum in "Site Stuff" in which non-mods can actually create new threads. Maybe it should just be called "Everything Else LBPC"? Or maybe it should be moved to Site Updates? Not sure yet - we're currently discussing the issue behind the scenes.

I considered that too, but that forum is for LBP-related contests, and this doesn't really fit.

Sounds more like you put it in General Chat, not because it was appropriate, but just to exploit the audience. If that's all it is, then we can just put up a sitewide announcement box like we do for the Spotlight posts. Hopefully that should also solve the unfortunate problem of the PS3/PSP separation.

Might also grab more attention if someone more artistically capable than I (which is pretty much everyone) put together a pretty logo we can include in the notice, and the OP.

When you put it like that, you're probably right. I can't think of any other solution other than making that announcement like you said.

Now, if I remember last year when we tried to do something similar, there were a lot of hurt feelings when the results came out. I'm reluctant to support these awards again, as I don't think it can be guaranteed that some members won't be offended by the results.

Those are just my thoughts. Have your fun, but ask yourself what the purpose of the awards are. Is it just to stroke egos, or are we capable of having some good, honest fun?

I think the site has matured enough since.

I wasn't here to witness the first or second awards shows, but that didn't stop everybody from telling me to cancel the show last year. Thankfully, everybody seemed to enjoy it, so hopefully this year's new members can do the same... not the telling-me-to-cancel-it part; the enjoying themselves one.

Do you mean get everybody's votes gathered into one spot, or everybody for to stop posting more than one comment of their votes. If that's the case, then I have to say no to option 1, because:

If we do gather all the votes together, then it'll be a hassle trying to keep it updated when people edit their votes. Not only that, but it'll be an inaccurate display of the votes because I still have the PM'ed votes to go through.

As for the second one, I think I made it clear enough when I said:

Level of the Year?

It's okay. I'm pretty sure that some PS3'ers were biased as well, so your votes will probably even that out.

As for Level of the Year, I'm going to deny that offer (if it was one). I was going to do that, but then that was more related to the game rather than the site. Besides, the Sackies take care of that. It'd be a waste of an awards show to offer an award that an official award show does.

If you want to make your own, then be my guest. I think there was something called LittleBigOscars that did just that.

Thanks for voting. And sorry for not getting voted as much. It's not that nobody likes you, but it's just that you don't socialize as much.

Majority of the nominees are always talking and participating. So maybe if you did that more often, and ventured more into the other sections rather than the PSP's, then you might build up your reputation more. After all, we still have a whole month to go, and people can still change their votes whenever they want to.

Is that correct? I really don't mind it at all, to be honest. So long as the users know that they're going to have to go back and edit their post in order to alter their votes, then I'm perfectly fine on however they submit. The only guidelines I have for how they'll be displayed are these:

No mutliple votes (posts). If you've been warned already doing this, and you still keep voting like this, then you're going to face Consequence #2 (denied the privelege to vote and removal from public voting; see OP for further details).
NO abbreviations, please. I can understand majority of all members through their abbreviations, but it'll be easier for me to tally up votes by just having the name spelled correctly and fully (it gets annoying writing a name down as a nomination, only to realize that it was an abbreviation for somebody else... that and some abbreviations are the same as someone else's).

Note: These are guidelines, not rules. The reason they're not on the OP is because a) I was running out of characters/space, and b) it's common sense. However, if it does become a problem, then I'll be happy enough to add these on there... somehow.

Well, I do hope these replies answer a lot of questions. I'll be updating the OP shortly with some new rules, banners, information, etc.

I want to add a category for username that made me laugh out loud. I'm going to nominate dr_underwear for that.

As I mentioned before, I will tolerate incomplete forms; however, if you're talking about someone who votes in one post:

Mr.Moneybags: who just kept earning and earning, and earning xp points, spending it, giving it away, and using it for whatever reason?
Failure OTY: the biggest fail, accident, or mistake you saw made by one of your fellow lbpc-ers, if it is a post, quote it, if not, just tell what happened. if you think it is that person, cause they just failed so much, just drop their name in the box.

Too specific. As far as I know, only Bremnem &Inanimacy and robotiod & Doopz479 come in to mind (comphermc & mrsupercomputer is a different story).

That's way too negative. I think it's safe to say no one wants to be reminded of what they did wrong here.

The Community Competition OTY may be do-able, but the way you phrased "to flame, join, and try to win the prize" doesn't help with my decision. I think the whole point of competitions is to have fun, not to do exactly what you said. Again, I'm not sure. I would like to add this, but majority of newcomers will probably vote for a Crown Contest, so I'm going to have think about this.

As for the second award, that's more than likely to cause some egos here, and it sounds like it coincides with the Community Competition OTY (which is, again, making me doubt the award will work out in the end).

Failure OTY: the biggest fail, accident, or mistake you saw made by one of your fellow lbpc-ers, if it is a post, quote it, if not, just tell what happened. if you think it is that person, cause they just failed so much, just drop their name in the box.

This is more like harassing the person for some mistake they did. Well sorry, but there's no way I'm going to even consider adding this award. The name itself is too offensive.

Overall, I think out of that list of awards, only two have a chance of making it in; most likely next year.

Other than that, the rest I either discarded because they were too specific or they were too negative. Not only that, but I'm starting to think that you added some awards so you can only benefit from them (you raised my suspicions when you "suggested" more than one art related award, then said you should be able to vote for yourself in any award, which you coincidentally used one of the art awards as an example). You say that you're doing this from past experience, but from what experienced should someone be awarded a Failure OTY award?

And on that note, if you do have this so called experience, then you should know that this:

I do believe recognition is enough, there's nothing special in having a 400 x 150 pixel filled space with your name on it and the name of an award you obtained. It's a thread on LBPC, not all of LittleBigPlanet.

its cause we get a sub section that isnt really on the home page.
as a result we veiw the rest of the site as ps3 section and dont go there cause we lack the hardware.

thats bugging me...shouldnt seclude yourselves just to the PSP section alone...the BETA threads are very cool and you can see some awesome pictures from the beta made from users (maybe request someone to make your sackboy in LBP2 and take pix too?)

and in the ART section i have this great project being worked on (its in the stickies)

and other sections have great threads you guys can be a part of...staying in the PSP one alone makes you so secluded to just one area and you guys have so much areas to go to and more friends to make

i say we break the barriers between PSP/PS3...you guys are welcome to come to the rest of the threads so DO THAT and get to know us PS3 gamers...who knows maybe one day you guys will go out and buy a ps3 and then relate to us even more...but for now yeah come to the rest of the forum and make some friends...the community spotlight is doing a good job so far...but its up to ya'll whether you keep up the mingling and such with PS3 users...anyways im rambling...but you get the picture
