Shantopolis: Multi-Path Race To The Improvium TowerOstler5000
Race through the makeshift city nay path you choose! A multiple route race, can you find the quickest pathway through the metal city?

When I started this level, my idea was the create another one of those levels where the race lasts for the entire level, however, I did notice that in LBP, generally the linear levels far outnumber those that offer players a wide selection of routes to take.
So, my goal was to create a level that would allow players to play through the level, perhaps as many as 5 times, without always recognising the path.
One drawback to my level, is that, due to it's maze-like layout, the thermo is more spread out, thus making my level appear quite short. I've been able to finish it in under a minute, 30 seconds, but if the scoreboard is anything to go by, other players aren't finding it quite so short, so I really dunno.

While working on the level, even I lost my barings a few times. lol

My theme was generally centred around my interest in makeshift and/or mechanical things. Hence my 'city' is effectively a futuristic shanty town. Small, squint or buckled buildings appear frequently along the various roads and whatnot, along with odd or makeshift methods of transport in certain routes.

No storyline, as I couldn't really think of any particular reason for running through.
I chose this level title, as I had so much fun working on the way the landscape is formed, I think I may well take another visit to Shantopolis some time. Maybe next time with an actual storyline.
Should anyone ask, the destination 'Improvium Tower' is basicly a take on 'Improvised Tower' given it's made up of other scrap materials. Much like the rest of the level, only taller. :B
Oh, yeah, and there is also an attached boss fight with Shantopolis, which you can find a level key to at the checkpoint of the race level.

Generally, I feel the level is finished, but some aspects in particular I'd like people to focus on, should they decide to post here;

Navigation - Did you actually get lost? I put a few arrows here and there, butit can get a little confusing. Give me a rough description where you were, and it'll get sorted with more hints regarding what way to advance.

Did you find any routes particularly... boring? When you've got multiple paths to tie together, it can be hard to find space, or build over an existing area. I tried to keep sections varied, but sometimes I felt I was using the same ideas too much - did you notice it?

Thanks for your time, and your play.

EDIT- Unbelievable. My Photobucket URL is filtered. Thank you, over-the-top swear filter.
EDIT2- Right, I registered for a different Photobucket account because of this site. How on earth is 's-h-i-z-a' a cuss?
EDIT3- Most people proof read when they first write up or submit the post. I do it a few hours later. Dunt juj meh.

This is what I think about your level:

Good: The multipath feature is cool. The scenarios were well made. Original. The whole level is exciting.

Bad: The doors are too little and hard to notice. I bit repetitive. Too short.

I think its a good level. :star: :star: :star: :star:

Now, please check my level:

I disagree with the guy above me, this level was absolutely incredible! I had a blast playing it and replayed a few times to see how many routes I could take. The amount of varying in the few replays I did was really cool. I like the whole atmosphere and look of it, it really does look like a "shantopolis" Overall I had a great time and it was a nice break for me personally from creating, I also checked out your other level you recently published, Melee Tower and that was outstanding as well dude. As far as Shantopolis goes, I only had one little iffy problem, some of the camera angles were angles towards the opposite way than I were heading, this lead to some unexpected deaths and made it somewhat irritating because I had to work around the camera angles. Other than that I got a completetly great experience from this race and you got a <3 and :star::star::star::star::star: from me If you are doing F4F check out my level link that is in my sig to my level "Ashton Chronicles 1: Hidden Water Temple", if not, don't sweat it dude 2010-12-02 15:31:00

Sweet, thanks to both of you.

I messed around with some of the doors last night. The important ones are a little bigger than they were before, and I do feel they're a little easier to get through.
I agree, having to shimmy left and right just to find the sweet spot to get through can be a pain in the butt - should've fixed that ages ago.

As for the camera angles, I can't think where those could be, but I'll be sure to go over everything and see if I can find something that particularly stands out.
On second thought, I think I may know where one of the spots was, should be an easy fix.

EDIT-
Oh, yeah, and as for Melee Towers, thanks for checking that out. :3
Not entirely finished, I think I may have a few things here and there to fix, but I imagine I'll be creating a thread for that in a fortnight or so when I'm confident it's ready for a proper showcase.
