Need Help.

Teleportation. I've never been good at the logic involved, and I really need help with it.

So I have this room where the entrance is, with two layer thick flooring and a bed. When you grab the bed you're supposed to enter the new area, but I'm going to need to have a teleporter on the entrance to get there. I already have gas coming up to kill sackboy so he'll reappear in the "teleported" entrance. Thing is, I can't get the entrance to teleport.

First off, will the piston connected to the entrance from a place below the thick two layer ground work? Or do I have to redesign?

Secondly, does the piston need to have flipper motion?

Also, the piston needs to move it after I grab the bed, so what behavior should the grab switch on the bed have towards the piston? I'm confused.

I have been working on teleportation recently too, and it all depends on designing the room as to have walls in the right places. You must have a gap somewhere for the start to whiz through. I use a door, window, or ceiling made out of the 'magic mirror'. Have you heard of this glitch? It lets things pass through stuff one-way, its very simple. If you blend your mirror to look like the ceiling it would make a useful exit for your start.

As for moving the start, heres what I do:

1. Connect the piston directly onto the start and something handy in the area you wish to teleport to.

2. Set the piston's minimum length to however small you want it, the timing to 0.1 and flipper motion off, backwards does not matter unless your piston is very long, which it needn't be, depending on you level design.

3. Next you need a Permanent Switch. This is simple logic which you may know how to do already, but I will explain it anyway. Basically there is a block with a magnetic key (dynamic!) on top of a block of dissolve, beneath that is a block with the magnetic key switch. When you grab the bed, make the dissolve material...-dissolve. The block with the magnetic key should drop down and activate the magnetic key switch, keeping whatever it is permanently on.

4. Next connect the magnetic key on the Permanent Switch to the piston, set the magnetic key to direction and inverted (if the start moves before you grab the bed it play mode change it to un-inverted).

5. Ta da! It should now work, and the piston should permanently stay in your other area when you grab the bed.

(That may of been a bit long winded, but I hope it helped.)

Thanks dizzy! I had everything there literally but I got messed up with the flipper motion option. Also, I didn't even need a gap, it goes right through the two layer thick ground!2010-11-27 18:30:00

Oh yeah, that happened with me once, it was a rather nice surprise really. Glad you got it sorted.2010-11-27 18:32:00
