Should my friend make LBP2 custom music and share it?

Archive: 8 posts

My friend, a fan of LBP and a talented musician, is going to give LBP2 and level creation another try when it comes out. I am trying to convince him that the LBP community would love to get their paws on any shared music objects that I think he should create.

Assuming for now that one can indeed create custom music in LBP2 and put it up in price bubbles (you can, right?), would such an initiative be appreciated? And what would you expect of it?

I was thinking on doing the same thing, but I don't know how reliable the community and game would be in making sure it doesn't get published by someone else. You know how bad things were in LBP prize-wise.

Making music and sharing it with others is a great idea, it's just you've got to be prepared to have your name detached from the work from time to time. D:

So far in the beta, most people have been very considerate to give credit for the music they received as prize bubbles. There are some who forget, don't bother, or have no room left in the description or with their levels to do so. But on the whole, people in the beta have been really awesome about giving credit. If you give away a sequencer object, some people might want to remix it and post it as their own (I've only seen one example of someone doing this) but, depending on whether you set the prize bubble to be shared, they might not be able to give it away as their own.

Anyway, it's LBP... people are going to do whatever they want to do. If you give something away as a prize, you really cannot control it too much.

I agree with HardSync. Its all about how much of a claim you want on your music. Personaly, I would just build a store like level with different musical prize bubbles. Have temmplates, custom sounds, or beats where they can share them with th rest of the LBP community. Then have your finished music and finished songs as unsharable.2010-12-11 04:19:00

I think there will be a real market for it.
For example I would love the first minute of this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yg_rf2d894k)to recreate my animation in LBP2.
Or something from Tenacious D to animate to.

The only issue is people stealing credit. As always. :/

... Maybe if he use a keylock...
Like, you put a key here -in LBPCentral- (maybe with numbers or X, O signs...) and if you put it well -in the level- it gives you the prize...
Assuming there are no noobs in LBPCentral .

I'm already planning on opening a music request thread on LBPC for you lovely people. Hell, i've been doing it in the beta already!

For original tunes only however, I'm not one for sitting down and tabbing out music from a MIDI file or staves (bar in a very few special circumstances).

However, more people doing the same thing is not a bad thing. If your mates really good Antikris then I don't see that there'll ever be enough quality music circulating.

(I'm also gonna' open a tutorial thread on appropriate use of music in levels, but only closer to the time)
