Pins

Archive: 18 posts

How about thread discussing pins they interesting thing to discuss, they exacly the same as Blizzard's achivment system(which is my most favorite achievement systems in the market currently):

here how they look in WoW: http://www.wowhead.com/achievements=1

-Mass number of achivments, some of them for uber easy operations
-Series of Achivments, those with numbers releted to them
-Divided in categories
-Hidden no points achievements for stuff that is hard to get or something that people should not rush to (for the sake of there health, same as Feats of Strength in Blizzard achivments)
-You can make showcase of selected achievements on you profile (like in starcraft 2)
-System that have no limit in quantity to be completable, and don't aim to be possible to complete

So they exactly the same as in WoW or Starcraft 2

It's grat, it allows MM to add more over time without playing with Sony around, for example pins for percitation in real world events, contest winners, achievements for stuff added in patch and smaller DLC packs, it's much flexible system

And here cog video showing all of them:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bhHBErIWxg

Also note that pin that you get throphis are marked in color of trophy itself, but imo they really should pin something other then time and loosing related pin as achievements

And don't forget about my suggestion, level-oriented pin for user to give in there level without effecting profile ofcorse and main pin list, that would be cool:

https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=40013-Level-oriented-Pins

Also small tip for stuff that is not retro active:

For "Publish level with x thing" pins you just need to change the level details of those level to get your pins

1 secret pins discovered:

-MM Picked! - mm picked duh?
-Royality - Earn Crown
-Who's Who - Watch whole credits (you realy should since oyu might read your name in "Community Love to" ;])
-Thanksgiving Turkey - Wear the Turkey Head on Thanksgiving

Find anymore?

It'll only mean a avalanche of "get xxxx pins with one button press" etc etc.2010-11-25 12:09:00

Yeah cool stuff, although yeah it's silly to have all those achievements for things like dying once in a level...2010-11-25 12:11:00

The only way level-oriented pins could work is if they are conceptually contained within the level. So the player can go to the level, see the listing of pins that are available for that level and tick them off the list. Don't allow user-created pins to appear anywhere else, which is what is described in that linked thread.

A pin spam level would be pointless, as people would get xxxx pins contained within that level, but so would everyone else....

I like all the little pins you get for doing little things. It's a superb way to get people to keep playing, as once you get lots of the easy ones you start wanting the harder ones. Completists who don't like level creation are more likely to try their hand at it. It's like the trophy system, but far more rewarding because there are more of them.

And as for "spam pin levels" they don't sound fun AT ALL. I'd much rather earn them naturally through playing the game.

Well okay, but I doubt you'll like what I have to say about them.

Pesonally, I think they are useless and trivial little annoyances that have already become trite. I'm honesly sick of hearing that popping noise just because I used a something for the first time. I know I used it, and I don't need an audible reminder that I just did any more than I need a ridiculous FAKE trophy to try and make me feel better about myself for doing so. It's the same reason I hate trophies... who cares that I've smiley-faced 50 new levels? I know you all don't care if I did... so why in the world should I? This isn't a competition with the other players or with ourselves.

Gah! Most of the time I hear the noise, but don't even see what I've just been "rewarded" for, and I certainly couldn't be bothered going through the Pins pages to try and figure out which one is new. I've even searched a way to turn the dang things off but I can't find one. Stupidest addition to the game yet. I think they should have spent more time on the important things this game needs that will actually make the "game play" better... this was just a complete waste of time and man power IMHO.

There, I said it.

I like them. My buddy always asked me why I would waste time trying to get LBP trophies like the ones for getting high scores on the DLC survival levels. He said the same thing. "It's a fake trophy, it does nothing" I don't care. It's just an EXTRA goal to accomplish. Something else to do in the game. Some of these pins I will never see, but I'll still try. And I think it may push people to create more to get some of them. But I don't think it's gonna stop the H4Hing. Just because it's a pin instead of a trophy doesn't mean people won't cheat to get it.2010-11-27 03:26:00

I personally love the little sound pins make when you unlock them :3 *wiggle-wiggle-SPSHHHHHHHHH!*

As for not having them, I think they are a good addition. People like earning things, so even adding basic in-game trophies will make people do things they normally wouldn't do. There's a chance that people may actually begin to do and enjoy something they normally never do just because they wanted the pin associated with it.

They also don't hurt anybody, so what if they play a little, 2 second noise when you achieve them? It doesn't ruin your fun, unlike getting invited to play with others. If you don't like them, it's VERY easy just to completely ignore them. The menu you see them in is not in the way, and can also be ignored. If you unlock a pin, but don't realize what it was for, but can't care to go look for it, then... well that doesn't make any sense; why would you want to be interested in something you aren't interested in?

And by adding pins, I highly doubt that means the game is going to be worse than it would be without them.

By the way; lots of people care if they've smiley-faced 50 levels.

And @Shadowriver; Thanks for showing my video

StevenI found a couple more secret pins over at the workshop

Royalty = Be awarded the LBP crown
Who's Who = Watch the entire credits
Thanksgiving Turkey = Wear the Turkey Head on Thanksgiving

Now IMO the pins aren't a big deal though I know this'll cause H4H LBP2 levels and such but I am interested in trying to discover all the secret pins, I'm probably going to messin with the PS3's clock and fiddlin with the holidays offline tomorrow

you guys, pins aren't going to create a influx of levels dedicated to them. Are we seeing them in the beta? (Though I haven't played the beta much after the last patch to know if there is). How can most people have their level to get 10,000 plays by boosting? That is such an huge undertaking even if you tried to have a checkpoint and scoreboard right next together you would have to contact 10,000 people to PLAY your level and even more to get it hearted. It would probably be quicker and take less time making a good level that deserves 10,000 plays/hearts.

WipEout HD and Motorstorm Pacific Rift had pins as well, but they brought them in as patches. Mm, Evolution (Motorstorm) and Liverpool Studio (Wipeout - now closed :/) are all UK based game studios.

I can't predict the future on how the rest of the community will take to pins but I'm keen on being the first person to unlock them all! Pointless you might say, but I think I can do it. I just hope there is a decent reward (if any). I'm pretty sure I was one (not if the first!) to get all the Motorstorm pins and the reward sucked hugely.

I can see that we have got rid of "highly rated trophy" as the trophy icon for it, is not in.

Some people will whore the trophies then move on. I think the community will be good around this time.

"for example pins for percitation in real world events, contest winners, achievements for stuff added in patch and smaller DLC packs, it's much flexible system"

Is there a pin for sending Mm a sackboy shaped cake? Or does that still give you a crown?

even after MM got a taste of how selfish and ridiculous the community is with the god glitch for themselves, they're still willing to make their core creator base deal with the stupidity caused by create incentives. it's to get a million wastes of space spending money on DLC for a year or two, and for a small minority of creators to try and make the online portion of the game a worthwhile experience so an occasional video promo or montage can look nice for the press, and make a million level marker seem like it's a success.

i guess, in all actuality, we need MM to have someone to sell DLC to, or we don't have a server to do this on. no way to win.

well... i'll see you guys there anyway, again, regardless. i got your backs.

Thanksgiving Turkey = Wear the Turkey Head on Thanksgiving

I think it's safe to assume there'll also be ones for wearing the Santa costume on Christmas, Pumpkin on Halloween and possibly the cake on LBP's birthday (although this is less likely because it varies depending on where you live).
