Will Sackboy sell his soul to buy his freedom?
Sackboy has found himself confined to a bare, lonely cell: a seemingly inescapable predicament. However, when the walls of sanity that confine Sackboy's reality begin to tear, who knows what our hero will sacrifice to be free of...

Ah yes, I remember. I'm rather glad that we seem not to have overlapped at, given how much we could have done.

Well, I hope you enjoy the level. I missed the comments deadline for spotlight 51 that featured imagi-corp, so I actually have never spoken publicly about my appreciation for what is, of course, a really excellent level.

No way! You just released 10 characters and Crisis in Camelot! How do you crank these things out so fast!?
Feedback: Well, this is the first level that has truly left me with a loss of words. I am speechless. For some readon I felt different after this level and it made me think, I've just never played a level like this on little big planet. Never before on LBP PSP has insanity, and asylums been the theme of a level, and executed this well. Most levels I've played are full of brightness, action, puzzles, and humor; this was a bit unnerving, creepy, and stange at the same time, but all in a good way. See, I'm just talking jibberish and I truly am at a loss of words, I'll just let someone more intelligent than me make up some good feedback. All in all, the Creator Spotlight done on you is entirely true; every level you have made is entirely different than the last and the only similarity between them is how good they both are. Keep it up!

If I were to guess. He was working on more than one project at a time. I have a few levels that I have started and might finish by December 2012.

Hi, Salieri! I could not ignore your new level! It is amaizing! I've never play in something similar on psp. Atmosphere are amazing! Great main idea, very cool gameplay and nice flashbacks with pieaces of such great levels! Also that main idea with self-sacrifice is genius! It is very cool match with all level! You created very different level for you. I didn't expect such versatility from you! I knew, that you are great creator and story writer, but in this level you overcome my expectations!

My respect for you work and for you imagination!

5 stars and heart!

That was really... creepy :eek:
This was a completely new idea to me and you managed to do it perfectly. The atmosphere was just amazing even if it was just that prison and the monster, I guess the two just made it creepy, especially with those slime sound effects and everything.
I only died once where I didn't have to, so I'm 2nd on the scoreboard. I didn't really want to sacrifice myself (or my memories!!!!!) but it seemed to be the only way, I has a sad.

I don't really feel too comfortable about that ending... it seemed veeeery creepy. Will there be a sequel?
But umm yeah for this level :star::star::star::star::star: + <3

NNOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! NO sequel! This is one of those levels where you just leave it at that. by the way, I never commented about your scoring mechanism. Rather than make a level with bubble collecting, you made it the bubble system in a way measure how many times do die! Ingenious! I played it another time and gave 5 more stars!2010-11-24 15:22:00

Awesome, as I said above it looks like the creepy setting worked out ok. I tried to make it weird and a bit confusing rather than too disturbing or scary as I didn't want it to be unsuitable for younger players. Hopefully it's not too upsetting!

I do actually have an idea for a kind of sequel but it would be a completely different kind of level...

Well it wasn't too creepy that it would be unsuitable for children. There is so far only one level on the psp that has really scared me (I'm totally not looking at Shallow Springs and the motel room surprize...)
Actually the level seemed a little confusing at some parts, at least one part where you jump over some small blocks and there are also thin blocks right next to them... caused me to die. It is totally not a flaw, it was just me trying to be too quick and not watching what was ahead.
It's nice to hear another level is in the works, it being a completely different one is actually good because that means new Salieri awesomeness

i was the 8th or 9th sackperson to play this level and its pretty awsome, a little creepy but still pretty awsome and i thought it was pretty cool how you took parts from other highly rated lbp levels and disstorted them in a way that makes you want to keep playing to see what happends to sackboys precious memories2010-11-24 17:32:00

Hey Salieri! I think it's time I left feedback for my favorite tech geek.

So far, I've seen a lot of people trying to make a "creepy" level, but none have yet to achieve it without making the player either feel bored or good inside. This one, however, completely took me away!

While I know people are over exaggerating that it's "scary", I would like to add that the main theme of the level was definitely noticeable throughout the entire level. I love gritty, dark levels, so seeing you pull this one off perfectly was just incredible!

There were some parts where I can grab the tentacles and go behind thin layered walls, in which I get trapped and I have to kill myself. It's minor though, so nothing needs any fixing.

Finally, I love how you made the ending feel more like a tragedy than a "happy ending" story. This level was is possibly the only level on the PSP that actually left me thinking about what just happened. It made me feel used by the monster, and in a way I felt betrayed by it. The story itslef was incredible and it didn't leave me feel "Wow, I win again" but more like "I can't believe I died...."

Overall, I gave it :star::star::star::star::star: and very well deserved <3. Excellent job my friend; you've definitely have a shot for "Best LBP PSP Level" with this.

Peace

Preveiw makes me want to play this... But the Call of Duty Black Ops soundtrack makes the preveiw... a bit distasteful, no offence.

This is quite the interesting level! Very abstract but very awesome. I loved how you blended memories into recognizable levels like Now and Then, or Zen. The main creature was quite strange, but I really liked it. It seemed like a giant squid to me. The SFX were amazing, and I honestly have no idea how you did that murky SFX. Is it one of them?? Amazing level, definitely one of my favs. :star::star::star::star::star: <32010-11-24 21:53:00

I'm with B3, I'm somewhat am excited, but those tentacles disappoint me... :[
I don't wanna sound like a jerk, (Which I feel like am for saying this) but I think those tentacles could've been done better. By better, I mean a lot better. It disappoints me because you are one of the best creators ever on PSP. Though, the tentacles are a bit too... How should I say it... Box-ish...? It's not smooth/round at all, it's as rough a box.... :[
I'm sorry if I sound bad, but don't worry, the mechanics and originality is Awesome!! Expect good feedback!! and maybe slight flaws...

@cybersora:

Ace, thanks for the feedback. I know, a LBP PSP level can't really be that scary or even that creepy. I was more wirried about placing too much emphasis on 'killing yoursef' (hence only using 'sacrifice&apos and making some kind of an entertainment out of deteriorating mental health, which I thought might be distasteful, which is why I went for dumbed down and vague.

I'm really pleased that the ending seems to have worked and people like it. For a change I knew how I wanted the level to end from fairyly early on, end yet I felt after I'd made it that people might be disapointed, or think that I just copped out after running out of thermo. The idea was that there had to be consequences for aiding an obviously selfish, ancient, otherworldly horror. I guess it worked, without being too prescriptive.

@ragefulnoobs:

Well, I'm not offended as I didn't make that video... though I actually think CheezeBo did a pretty good job. I suppose in reality it's a bit too epic for the sort of lingering atmosphere of the level. I'm actually quite pleased with the music in the level - it was a nice change to not be relying on the same few tracks that I usually use. Good to hear the action elements appeal to you - in spite of the sacrifice mechanic (which isn't really much of a mechanic at all, it's very basic) and the unusual setting, underneath this level is really quite a fairly standard platformer with some simple block and switch puzzles, something which I've not really done before.

@valmassoi:

I'm not sure exactly what you meant by the murky sound effect, but most of the ambient effects were prvided by either radio static from the miscellaneous category, or slime from the monster category, both with the speed slider almost at minimum.

@spark151:

Well, I guess you can't please everyone, and I'm sorry to hear you found the tentacles disappointing. 90% of the low corner count is down to my sheer laziness, and wanting to get on with the level. It didn't really occur to me that anyone would find them distractingly boxy. However, it's worth mentioning that the particular material I used has a very deep bevel, which was very sensitive to being shrunk down when two corners were too near to each other. I felt the thick edges looked better so in many cases I actually found myself deleting corners to restore the appearance of the bevel. That really only partially excuses my lame corner editing.

@alismuffin:

Blimey, thanks a lot. As pleased as I am with what you've said about the level, though, that dog... I mean, it's not even cute at all. My dog is totally cuter than that.

WOW Salieri, this level..., awesome, ...so cool,

I saw a few area's that could have been corner edited better, but thats why my levels are so short(i cant have a brick in my levels without it having something like a crack or a chip in it)

Really cool story, Everthing was awesome really.

one question though, Did you make the parts with the memory's or did you ask Taffey, jeffcu and afpoo for parts of there levels?

If I was a big intreviewer I would give it a 100/10

This was an awesome level, who doesn't like giant mysterious spooky tentacle monsters? I was very impressed with the level ripping apart, it looked and played great! Very interesting gameplay, too... sacrificing yourself to feed Sackboy's infinite vitality into the beast... really quite brilliant!

Thanks for givin' us another great and unique level Salieri! You're definitely an inspiration to us all

Ello There!

I am quite impressed by this excellent piece of work here! You've done an extremely nice job with this in about every way possible. The concept of the level was extremely well thought out and the story that it had amazed me. After the first "Dream" segment that I passed through, I couldn't wait to get to the next one. Those, were in fact, my favorite part of the level. I could relate it to my own memories of those levels and it was a really great experience.

The gameplay was nothing incredibly unique or astounding, but for me, I had to play the level a second time until I really noticed that. And on the second time, I went in looking for new gameplay elements and such. Now the visuals, well...they were simply amazing! The way you were able to have that..."Beast" tear everything apart was outstanding. Very nice job with this level

A well earned: :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3.

Hey Salieri, this was a really good level I love the prospect of giving him a sacrifise, even if it was a bit freaky, I really liked how you put all of those memories of all those different levels in. I'm sure Amazingflyingpoo is proud. So what happened at the end? did he eat you? Because if he did . . . I'm scared of this level . . . in a good way!
5 stars and a heart from me
EDIT: yeah I agree with eagerneph, the dream parts were the best, they kept me wondering what would be in the next one.
Crisis in Camelot is still my favourite level!

Wow Salieri, just wow. This level is great! I had a lot of Fun with this level and enjoyed guessing what is going to break and when. The looks were bleak, but it appeared to be the idea. The Faithful recreation of past levels was a pretty cool concept and they were done very well. This whole level really reminded me of the intro to Legacy of Kain: Defiance, which is awesome because I love the LoK games (sadly my ps2 broke :smileysad The idea of sacrificing your own energy was awesome and I haven't seen it before in lbp (this reminds me of Shadow of the Colossus, which is also awesome.) I had a slight problem with it not being completely obvious where to go next and the thin blocks in the front thin layer kind of confused me. I kind of agree that the tentacles could have looked better, but it didn't detract from how awesome the level was. I really, really enjoyed this level and I look forward to your next. :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3.2010-11-28 03:25:00

what happens to sackboy??!!

Well, this is going to sound totally ridiculous and pompous but I kind of intended the level to have two possible interpretations. On the one hand, the creature, which you might call a "Great Old One" if you're in to the Cthulhu Mythos, lures Sackboy into being totally devoured by making ambiguous promises that appear to offer his freedom but that result in his ultimate betrayal. Alternatively, the creature is a delusional artefact of Sackboy's disturbed mind, and Sackboy's submission to the creature leads to an irreversible plunge into a world of fantasy. Either way Sackboy is in a lose-lose situation, and trades a mundane incarceration for a psychological or extradimensional one.

Alternatively, it's just a cheap level with a downer ending and pretentious dialogue ^_^

This whole level really reminded me of the intro to Legacy of Kain: Defiance, which is awesome because I love the LoK games

Me too! And I think I registered the Elder God as an inspiration in my interview with CheezeBo, though I may have forgotten. It's a shame the series never seemed to gather much momentum after Soul Reaver - I thought Defiance was amazing.

one question though, Did you make the parts with the memory's or did you ask Taffey, jeffcu and afpoo for parts of there levels?.

Well, I asked them for their permission to copy parts of their levels and got their consent, but I remade everything myself. I nearly used taffey's original lunar module thing but it wouldn't have fitted in with the way I was using the layers, and I was running a bit low on thermo by that point so I simplified it quite a lot. Zen was quite complicated as I had to change all of the layers around so that I could have a black layer behind the 'paper' layer. I did it all by using JHK3's youtube videos as references.

Thanks to everyone for all the feedback. I can totally see the point about the corner editing on the tentacles, but I can't say I really regret how they look. If I had the opportunity to change them, I probably wouldn't.

well........OH MY GOD!!!!!!! what an absolute legend of a level ima gonna do some scoring

Atmosphere: Bang on my friend! The whole needing to keep the monster full thing was very....dark....i liked it

Theme: Like many creators have already said, making a level with this kind of sincerity ( I dunno I cant spell ) away from the usual fun filled trip of fun-ness. It was a refreshing change

Level Content: Just awesome, thats all I can say......

Awesome level........ 15/10

Just an absolutely epic level, this is the kind of level that handed the creator spotlight to you...and congrats on the level spotlight aswell!!!!
