Help with Bouncy Bed!

Archive: 7 posts

Hello again, sackfriends! I have another dilemma in my level, something I was messing around with for hours and still couldn't figure out. The idea behind this item is you are trapped in a small, enclosed padded cell, with only a bed in your room. I want to be able to jump on the bed and grab the padded ceiling. Here's the issues with that:

Making the mattress spring or piston out of the bed frame to catapult me into the air, then making it return to the frame. I have tried using piston/proximity switch and a spring and can't figure out the best combination.
I want to be able to move the bed to one side of the room. I don't mind using wheels for this, because its sort of a hospital setting anyway. The bed I have right now has a wood frame and sponge mattress. When I attached the wheels, it still wont budge when pushed or pulled.
Lastly, I wanted to color the mattress itself, but can't seem to apply a color sticker to the sponge material. Any other suggestions on material for a good looking bed mattress?

Thanks for all of the help! I know this request is a bit verbose, but this game has so much detail, one can't help but to use too many words sometimes.

1: The piston option is your best bet. Just make sure the speed is nice and fast!

2: As long as your bed isnt too big or heavy, just plop a sponge circle on the end and then you can grab and move it.

3: The grey tweed sponge material is quite a nice hospitaley matress material, just go on the fill icon and select the matress.

Hope I helped!

Cool, thanks for the suggestions. I actually tried out the piston thing yesterday, and couldn't figure out how to get it just right. I know in the story mode there were parts where you'd jump on an object, and it would bounce you and then return to its normal state. That's kind of what I'm going for, I want to make sure it only bounces me when i jump onto it, and then it returns to the frame without popping out again unless i jump on it again. I know there's a way to do this, those geniuses at MM figured it out, so I know we can! Anyone have any suggestions?2008-11-02 14:31:00

put the pistons on the mattress, and connect them to the bedframe, make sure you put the first end of the piston on the bedframe then on the mattress. make sure the piston is at a 90 degree angle and tweek it to "make it stiff", then where it says "flipper motion": set it to "out", that way it will make a quick jerking motion everytime it goes up. next, add a player proximity switch to the bedframe, and set it so it only activates when the player is in the center of the bed. Finally, attach the plyer proximity switch to the piston(s) and you have a bouncy bed!2008-11-02 14:54:00

Use a couple of springs, springs will work much easier, seeing as all you have to fiddle with is the strength. Just adjust it, jump it on it to test it, rinse & repeat.
Probably too heavy? Did you glue the wheels, or use a normal bolt for it?
Make the matress a seperate item, and sticker over it before you attach it to the frame of the bed.

Just a tip for the wheels - make sure you are not using the "creature" wheel. They only move when the creature has a brain, and you can't really control it at that point. Just choose any material and attach a bolt to it, so you can drag the bed yourself 2008-11-02 15:38:00
