LBP Flash Website

Archive: 24 posts

As a project for my class, we were set to design a 3 page website using Adobe Flash. Here is an image of the main page, it is what I have so far.

Note that some elements are missing, as I designed it with Photoshop, but at home I only have GIMP, so opening the PSD file with GIMP removed some effects such as drop shadow and stroke.

Any comments?

Edit and update:
These images contain all content, nothing is missing like before. These are basically complete, as editing the new Flash files is like canceling any time you have for the future. So you can criticize, but I'm not changing anything, sorry!

The home page; the arrow, TV scribbles, and box scribbles are all animated, they all jumble as different images, giving the appearance of movement.

The gallery page; At the time, I only had one good image to work from, and that would be from the LBP2 beta.

I believe that this may be the worst page of the bunch, the organization is bad, I should have added some kind of boxes around the categories, but there's no turning back now.

Note: All images were originally 1024 x 768, they were shrunken down for quick loading times.

Looks great so far, however I do think the nav link text should be clearer.
Perhaps add a white border around the letters like the LBP header.

Stroke is like a border that goes around letters. :kz:

I am making a website for school too dude! but i have to use dreamweaver, an actual website programming program. And mine is a LOT more than three pages. ( and, yes it is about littlebigplanet. ) i didn't use much photoshop for mine, ( which i can only use at school, like OP) And i have been working on mine since August. It is ALMOST complete. If i ever get the chance, i am going to put it on the web, but, I can't make any kind of forum... so i was thinkin.... you know... link to here. Anyway. If i can, and noone else minds... ( OP ) i might show off my website here to. For comparison. But, dude, Your background is better than mine. BY FAR. I am just using the ones from the website pack. Which some of those look kinda cool, but not quite as cool as the one you have. I wish i could do some of that stuff... but i have no true experience in photoshop.2010-11-22 12:56:00

Go ahead! I've used Dreamweaver too, but I think I've forgotten most of it!

<h1>AMAZING!</h1>
This is wicked!! Seriously good job. The only comment I would have would be to add a glow to the menu buttons, as the edges tend to fade in with background a bit.
Has anyone ever told you about SEO and websites, because Search Engines can't read Flash files and it ain't good a a complete website system.
TBH, you can use Flash very effectively on websites, but only as mini games or banners - <strong>NOT</strong> complete pages.
No idea what Dreamweaver is LOL
<div class="footer">This page was made in notepad and has nothing to do with Dreamweaver. Oh... only people with Dreamweaver will get this

This edit looks great.

Is there any way to insert to swf file onto here with BB code?? Then we could see the animation and interactivity.

I've just checked my own forum and you can enter url to page.swf - don't know if its supported here though.

Even if it did work, the Flash section of the website isn't the prettiest thing to look at...the animations are simply the jagged lines on the TV, comment box, and the white arrow on the home page. It simply jumps through 3 different images of the same kind of drawing, but each drawing is done slightly differently. It gives the appearance of movement and a "cartoony" look.

I'm actually still working on making the navigation work.

Interesting point to note....

I can understand why a lot of people use flash sites because of the increased interactivity... and if it's a project that you've been told to do - fiar enough.

But I would never recommend using flash to build the entire site for one very good reason.... SEO!

Google and other search engines use html text to crawl and index pages. Flash cannot be read! Therefore, any site that is built purely in flash will never be ranked as highly as one built in html.

Search engines also use links (<a hef="blah de blah"/>) to find other pages on your site. In flash again, these cannot be read and the outbound links are ignored.

Flash is great for banners, supporting banners, micro sites and games only.

You might like to challenge your teachers on that one!

Just a point of view!

I'm no HTML expert (Far far from it) but there's a place in the 'head' section of website that you can add tags to for search engines to read (I think). Could you use this as a work around?

wow they look wicked warlord, and is that latin at the bottom of the pages if so what does it say!

google gave me this:

Hello world! amet consectetur Customer is meals. Consequat also leaven here. Consequently, her free before the tincidunt or some not NewHome bed now EU hatred of a lion carriages mattis avenging. curabitur to be adorned with consequat that it does not receives the leaven in the Sample

which sometimes makes a little bit of sense... kinda...

Yes there is a head section, but thats not the only place crawlers look.

Order of priority for SEO key phrases...

1) Domain (i.e. www.yoursite.com (http://www.yoursite.com))
2) URL (such as /thispage.htm)
3) Page Title (Yes, a tag in the head section)
4) Page description (Also a tag in the head)
5) Keywords (in the head but no longer used by the major engines)
6) H1 tags (in body - headings)
7) H2 tags
8) H3 tags
9) Hyperlinks
9) First paragraph (in body)
9) image "alt" tags
9) other text

(yes I have put 4 x 9's because I'm not sure with these)

The problem is that your head info is very limited as to what you can put in. The head does not cover links, which are crucial to the spidering effect.

You could put in some textual content in a div, and then hide it using the css (display:none, but I guess google has probably worked that method out and probably downgrades you for cheating!!

This latin is actually latin text which many designers and webpage developers use to "fill-in" when they haven't got the actual textual content yet. Despite what many believe, it is actually derived from an excerpt from Cicero's "The Extremes of Good And Evil" written in 45BC.

It is called "Lorem Ipsum" and there is a free genereator at www.ipsum.com (http://www.ipsum.com) and you can get as many paragraphs to fill in as you want.

I wonder how I know all these things lol.
