My tutorials for LittleBigPlanet 2

Archive: 19 posts

Hey all,

I'll be doing some tutorials and general tips for LBP2 on my blog and/or youtube channel. For starters, here's some basics on menu UI:

Any requests / suggestions are welcome! And yes I will be getting to the ray caster eventually.

I've been watching all of your videos, they're helpful, if only I had the beta. 2010-11-20 01:39:00

Great vids. You make it sound so simple.

I'd do one on making a seven-segment LCD decoder, I think lots of people would be interested in that. I'd never be able to explain it, I'm too boring.

That sounds like something that'd be popular, thanks for the suggestion. Today I'm gonna put some more basic tutorials up, like explaining how custom microchips work.

I have posted a lengthy and in depth look into several ray casting techniques I've demonstrated and thought about within LittleBigPlanet 2 on my blog here. http://foofles.blogspot.com/2010/11/indepth-look-at-ray-casting-theory-and.html

It is assumed you have a basic to intermediate understanding of LBP2 logic.

Thanks, that video on reusable functions was a great help. If you're looking for suggestions, I'd love to see something on advanced Controlinator functionality (especially the remote control part)2010-11-29 17:46:00

Well I finally fixed youtube and got around to watching these. And they were great, after watching them I think I'm going to be just fine with the new LBP2 logic, doesn't seems hard at all so far.

Btw, great work on keeping the video interesting and actually having expression in you voice I can't stand watching tutorials when I'm listening to someone droning away in monotone.

I like being ahead of the game.

If I had the beta I'd be with the game.

But I don't so I'm not in the game

Now I won't have to figure out how to do this stuff 'cos you showed me, meaning I'd be more with the game.

Then eventually when all this stuff is stored to a suitable extent (which in LBP2's case is EVERY STINKIN' NOOK 'N' CRANNY!!! ) we'll all be able to look back, reflect on the good times and say 'hey, we're all with the game!'

Can't wait for Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves as well!

Thanks for this, whenever I see LBP2 BETA gameplay when playing LBP1 I think:

"What the hell am I doing with this piece of crap???

That's how good LBP2 is. It makes our 'holy... thingumabob' (figured how to spell that in English today Yeah, it's an official word now!) look like a quick level done by a 9 - 12-year-old.....

Lol

Thanks again

Please can you tell me how to make:

- Signal Inverters
- On Tabs

I'm making a menu in my up-'n'-coming project and I saw your tutorial on YouTube and I couldn't find the links in the video details. Please help!

Updated blog to include more on ray casting including how Sackenstein 3D is achieved.

Also, on tap: http://foofles.blogspot.com/2010/11/littlebigplanet-2-on-tap-function.html (However I believe ShadowRiverUB has simplified it to just using one counter that resets itself when it hits 1. I am not sure if either or both still work, the way the logic is calculated changed a little bit. Try them both.)

Nice tutorials.
I think you said "and" when you meant "or" in the last part of the first vid though.
Great song you did on your channel too.

Dear, Foofles

I have been fiddling around with the new bits and thingys in the LBP2 beta, and while I appreciate the streamlined pseudo circuitry system. I've had a bit of a hard time rewriting processes from the first games manner of scripting in LBP2.

For example; In LBP1 i frequently made a box of dark matter, hollowed out with a piston in side that would push a piece of cardboard towards a magnetic switch. The switch would be set to "speed" and be attached to a light. As such, if a player activated the Dark matter logic switch, the light in front of them would slowly fade on.

I can't seem to figure out how to achieve this effect in LBP2 and was wondering if you wouldn't mind helping out a bit or pointing out something painfully obvious that I'm missing.

The whole piston to mag switch thing can be boiled down to a single timer component in LBP2. And the Dark matter permanent switch deal can be boiled down to a counter with a maximum value of 1. Simply increment the counter as you would activate your permanent switch and set the output to the timer's input, and the timer's output to your light. Set the light's input type to "Dimmer" and bang! you've got your fading in light.

Put up a very simple thing about states with counters.

Hey, someone might find it useful. If anything, it cheered me up to make it...

Your tutorials are amazing...
If you know how do you think you could make a tutorial on making the poortal gun?
I've seen tons of people do it but I nobody will really show you how to make them and make decent ones...
I've made a set myself but they don't always work like they are supposed to...
It would be awesome to see how you would do it...
