Help with fear of needle!!!

Archive: 32 posts

I need help!!! I'm getting some shots tomorrow or Saturday and i have a problem with well needles so anyone know how i can well try to confront it?

Edit:I had my shot and learned to anyone with a fear of needles (depending on age) shouldn't be afraid if anyone of you had a shot when you were small and remembered the pain that's because you were small and you weren't used to it it didn't hurt at all and i missed a day out of school thanks to it so don't be afraid it will be light a poke and then that's it.

You could always spend some more time with them. Get to know them... personally. Then you might be good. They really aren't as scary as they seem. Just clench your teeth and relax for a few seconds and you're good.2010-11-19 00:36:00

The thought of the needle is much more uncomfortable than the needle itself, I had one recently, it was a small prick and that was it. Keep that metallity about you.

Job Done.

Well then, if it's a shot, if you ease your arm, make it less tense, almost like disconnecting the veins from it, you won't feel much.2010-11-19 01:31:00

But in all seriousness, just close your eyes. Try not to think about feeling anything.

Just realize that it can't kill you. That's what I do when I get freaked out on amusement park rides.

Just have a nice drink of water beforehand, close your eyes and relax. The more relaxed you are the easier it is and less it hurts since the veins will be nice and high.

And puppies.

Tense your arms really hard, stare directly at the needle, AND FEEL THE PAIN.

But of course, if you don't want it to hurt, just relax and and don't look at it.

You must go atop the highest mountain, where you will find the briefcase. Take the briefcase to the nearest Wal-Mart. There you will find a man in a red tuxedo. Give him the briefcase. You will be handed tickets to Disney World. You will have 12 hours to arrive there.
If you arrive in time, a man in an orange tuxedo will give you a rubber human arm, then vanish in a cloud of smoke. Enter the park and discover that its deserted. In the middle of it however, is a giant FUDGING NEEDLE. Take your rubber arm and SLAP IT SILLY. After a five minute fight, the needle lays down on the ground dead, and you have lost a hand. Go to the hospital to get your shot.
As you get the shot you will be to horrified about your incident with the giant needle to notice the small needle. It will be over before you know it!

Or you could just close your eyes and think of saving the world from a giant need-err rock.

You know, I would rather be afraid of the contents of your shot. What is it against?2010-11-19 14:51:00

Idk about you, but playing BioShock can either make you lose you fear or increase it.
I would imagine that they are injecting this into you:

(then point my hand at directions and make sparking sounds after )

Yes they can O.o

hehehe Last time I got a shot I got so nervous that when the needle was inserted I got a laugh attack and I just laughed it all off O.o The more you think it's going to hurt the more it will. Just follow the advice that everyone is telling you. Relax your arm, look away and think happy thoughts.

Eve hypo, yes.
Real needle, no.

Trust me (TRUST ME) needles can be scary to people who have a phobia of them (TRUST ME!!!!)

It's up to you to find something that takes your mind off of it. For me I simply play videogames before and while they do, preferably something difficult to really get my mind off that pointy metal demon. (I STILL CANT KILL THAT FREAKIN' LAO SHAN REN ...oh my god my blood is flowing through a tube *passes out*)

Close your eyes, hold your breath, and think of something completely random. That's what usually gets my mind off the needle when it's being injected.

... but then again, last time I was staring right at it. O_o

When I had my tooth operated out about a year ago I got the local sedative shot near the tooth first, then the dentist gave me the biggest needle I've seen at a dentist and it went into the middle of my mouth, straight up through the palate. (I had to google translate it and I believe that area is the palate). It is the worst thing I've felt. It felt like acid being shot through my head. I will never forget it. The fluids went up through my head and all the way to my right eyeball. One assistant held my head firmly while I got the shot but my nerves or reflexes or whatever kind of nudged my head in one quick spasm to the side and the assistant lady just went "try and stay still". Jesus christ I never feared needles but that one was insane.2011-03-28 16:39:00

I started to do the antibiotic injections that I sometimes need, just by myself.
It was the end of January.
Really way better than having someone do them to you.
But yeah, I started because I was quite desperate, I would have never done it if I was quite, easy and calm.

My little Sister has to inject herself everyday with insulin, because she's got type 1 diabetes.... so none of us are allowed to be scared of needles in our family for fear of unending ridicule.

For instance; the day after tomorrow I'm going for a series of painful injection for a trip to china ; Typhoid, Diptheria, Maleria, Polio, Tetanus, Rabies, Hepatitis - you name it, I'm getting inoculated against it.
It'll probably sting a little - but not more than something like maleria

Yeah, seriously people, the sting hurts less and for less time than a bad cut.
Your head tells you that is something that is going to hurt, while the cut happens accidentaly.
But that's not bad and remember that the more you fear the sting, the more you contract the muscles and the more it will hurt.

Said so...I can sting myself but I would fear to sting someone else, can cope with my eventual pain, but not with someone else's.
