Level-oriented Pins
Archive: 17 posts
I got this idea in head for a while and it's interesting topic to discuss, what if we could add achievements to the levels in form of level oriented pins. Ofcorse for general anti-amusement it would only effect the level stats (same as hi-score) not profile stats and would not give anything outside level it self. Pins that you would get show up on list in the level info and event information, it would be also extra statistical information for creator what players do on the level, also keep in mind that developers use achievement to make people interest on part of the game that would not usually used by unworthyness. there would be 2 logic elements: Pin giver - gives the pin, work similar to point giver Pin sensor - Sence if player got specific pin (this would also allow somewhat do process saving on th level) Ofcorse it would be somthing for post-release updates So what you think about it? ;] Only issue i see is sever storage, quantity limit would solve it a little bit | 2010-11-18 22:15:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |
This would be a good feature but I think too many people will just hand out pins. | 2010-11-18 22:38:00 Author: Jedi_1993 Posts: 1518 |
But even if many people just hand out pins theres no benefit from it, if someone decides to make really easy "pin tasks" or "achievements" or whatever you want to call them so what? if it doesnt affect the player after they leave the level i think it can be a good thing | 2010-11-19 12:48:00 Author: Skalio- Posts: 920 |
As i said it's like hi-score, does not effect profile | 2010-11-19 14:06:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |
I really like this idea. Solves the problem of profile-save variables (within a single level, at least) and adds a little some-pin some-pin to the mix (yes, pun definitely intended). You'd also need to be given the ability to design your own pin, but this could be as simple as applying stickers to a pre-determined shape. | 2010-11-19 14:26:00 Author: dr_murk Posts: 239 |
What kind of pins would you make ? A hidden object found ? There are object bubles for that. A good score pin ? There is the score sensor (or whatever is the name) for this. I guess it would take too much place for a too little feature. | 2010-11-19 21:09:00 Author: Unknown User |
We've already had many discussions about this, and that is not the point of pins. | 2010-11-20 02:47:00 Author: Unknown User |
We've already had many discussions about this, and that is not the point of pins. Then whats other point of pins then rewarding achievements? and im not talking about general pins. Besides i only want to throw in-level achievements idea and pins idea fits to it. What kind of pins would you make ? A hidden object found ? There are object bubles for that. A good score pin ? There is the score sensor (or whatever is the name) for this. I guess it would take too much place for a too little feature. You thinking too shallow, there lot of other things you could give pins other then that to think of it levels is already equipted with in-levels pins, completion, ace and 100% collect, well i don't know but would be cool if you could mark player for doing something other then just those events | 2010-11-20 04:50:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |
Yeah, great idea. Allowing for both in-level "trophies" and saving player progress. I liek. | 2010-11-20 09:52:00 Author: Unknown User |
Yeah, great idea. Allowing for both in-level "trophies" and saving player progress. I liek. Exactly! If we want to make proper games, we'll want a trophy system for our games ^_^ | 2010-11-20 10:43:00 Author: Plasmavore Posts: 1913 |
Yes! This would be very useful. Being able to save progress or just have "trophies" in a really cool level. If someone makes a custom game with levels you either have to have all levels unlocked from the start or have to start all over again every time. With pins or whatever they would be called for individual levels you could save progress. | 2010-11-20 12:36:00 Author: napero7 Posts: 1653 |
GREAT idea. This way we don't need to use up sticker storage for saves. | 2010-11-20 13:16:00 Author: octopus_567 Posts: 116 |
I I've always wanted this, since before LBP2 was announced. Basically I'm thinking a page on the level screen (or, if they actually allow to group levels in a series together, on the level series page) that has all the achievements a'la the prize bubbles... Then we have a object thing that we hook a wire up to and then it activates the achievement. Ya. That would be cool :kz: | 2010-11-20 13:24:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |
You COULD always make an in level system and give out cool prizes for achieving something. This would be nice though. | 2010-11-20 13:33:00 Author: PPp_Killer Posts: 449 |
awesome idea. i can't see anything wrong with it... kinda like 'skill points' from the ratchet and clank series. ... yeah, cool... xD | 2010-11-20 22:14:00 Author: >er. Posts: 785 |

Score sensor would be very limited in comparison when saving variables. My idea is also limited for that, it can only store bool variables (you have pin or not) Also you can't save score,so it's not limited... it's impossible (and we not talking here bout sub-level links) | 2010-11-21 13:43:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |
