Camera Depth/Positioning Question

Archive: 4 posts

I wish I had the beta so I could see for myself, but have an idea that needs the camera to move a certain way. The problem is, I haven't been able to find my answer. Is the camera able to enter the layers? To view from, say, a peg's "view," if the said peg was placed in the middle layer (Or any layer, really).
I made a quick sketch to illustrate what I mean:

26563

The blue is the back/3rd layer, the yellow is the middle/2nd layer and the green is the front/first layer.
The red/yellow object is the host for the camera (Like my peg example above), and the greyish circle and lines are the camera and view, respectively.
The top image is the "platforming view," in which LBP's platforming is used.
The bottom image is the "top-down view," used in LBP2's RTSs, racing mini-games, etc.

A use for my idea (in order to help you understand my probably-poor wording xD) would be getting a first-person view of the racer in that racing game, or something to that effect. Any help is much appreciated(:

[PS: I noticed that my color on the bottom image was off. That green was supposed to go all the way inside the outline. xD I haven't the slightest idea how that happened.]

To my knowledge, you won't be able to get the camera angle you want. The closest thing I've seen is is what's been done in the "Flower" level or the amazing flight simulator level done by the same creator. The problem there is that they are using the BG Layer Gltich (some of you may know it as the incorrectly named 3D gltich, because lets face it... LBP is already as 3D as you can get without glasses), so there's not way you could have your player going around a pre-made exising track as far as I know.

Someone might know a workaround, but I can't think of any.

No you cannot do that. And like RB said, the closest thing was the scrolling layer glitch thing.

I have attempted to create a pseudo-3D ray caster like in Wolfenstein 3D as shown on my youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2z9atzuWJ84

But my attempts to increase the resolution are meeting with disastrous consequences. So unfortunately I don't foresee this technology being used in a published level anytime soon unless I can perfect it.

Ahh, that sucks. It wouldv'e worked perfect for my plan. My idea was one for a first-person shooter, and if this worked then it'd be perfect. Oh well. O' course, my plan had other minor flaws as well, but whatever. I've still got several more thoughts up my noggin(:2010-11-18 20:44:00
