Raising Level Showcase awareness.

Archive: 14 posts

It came to my atention that levels in the showcase are really REALLY unattended lately, many not even getting 5 posts, heck some are there even w/out any answer.

The ones that have "most posts" have about 10 - 19 posts, and that's just a hand ful of threads, which just isn't right.

What's the point in having an area to advertise your levels if that area is ignored?

I dunno if its everyone on the BETA or some other stuff, but its still pretty sad, think of those newer uprising creators that try hard to get noticed only to be completly ignored.

Just because they're new, or because they're not famous around LBPC, doesn't mean their levels should not be played.
Just because they're not Morgana, rtm, comphermc, gevurah, etc, does not mean at all their levels will be bad and not worth playing.

Give it a chance, so what if they're not spotlighted, its not like the level its any better if it gets spotlighted, does it?

Idk, I guess its just sad how many hours/ days/ weeks/ months are spent on these creations just to get ignored...

I'm not saying ALL levels are great masterpieces, there may be a few that won't suit your tastes.

but at least give them a try!

How do you exect these people to get better if they don't know if they're doing anything wrong or not?
How do you expect them to know there are some broken bits or unpassable parts to other users if no one else points it out?
How do you expect them to want to build more when their previous creations got ignored?

So please, at least give a few random levels a try, even if you disliked the level, try and leave some feedback on how to improve and better the level, or if you can't just try to say what you disliked.

Any feedback's good feedback. ('cept things like "This sucked." "Build better things." "and other non-productive things.)

Quality of cool pages is at an all time low, and if you don't help the users learn how to improve levels better, then don't expec everyone to make incrediblitastic awesome levels out of nowhere, and don't ignore those already existing awseometastic levels out there, and expect them to be making more either.

Remembr that regular levels need more promotion that spotlighted ones, so instead of only putting spotlighted levels' links all over the site, it'd be better t have a regular showcase button up there too, sure there's a little cornered up "Levels" button there, but many don't even notice it.

All the while there's the Large Spotlight button, the Spotlight Search engine, and the Home Button, all showing Spotlighed levels.
So would it be so bad to add a more noticable way to the level showcase?

Notice that this thread doesn't have any replies either. I guess people just don't care about levels anymore...

Still, it's a valid point, there are about 4-5 people in the level showcase that are giving feedback on levels nowadays. We need people to get out there! Play some levels!

Yeah, beta doesn't help matters atm.
If I am in the mood for playing, I check out some of the F4F levels.

I only play a showcase level if it looks like effort has been put into the thread. This means..Title, F4F (big deciding factor for me, not because I have a level to play in return, but it shows the creator is willing to put in the effort to review other levels) description, story blurb, images/pics, goals, etc.
Levels with less than a paragraph saying "this is my new level its a temple and you do stuff in it and stuff, short because of thermo." are not going to get my attention.

The more effort you put into your showcase threads, the more attention is will recieve.
From me anyway.

Nice post Leon-

I myself have forgotten about LBP1 and I guess I'm not alone... as I have a LPB1 level in the pipeline--guess it couldn't hurt to give the showcase some love and stroke the fires...

Still, I'm questioning the validity of the authorship of this thread. It's possibly the nicest, most positive- best written least self-serving thing you've ever written. With hardly a smackel of smarmy wit or cynicism-- What gives?

I've always taken a more passive stance towards feedbacking, *points to signature*. Except for this past month (when I had no internets ) that signature has been there. But when I do peruse the showcase, I look for a little effort as well. There are plenty of creators out here who will return F4F or give Feedback for Free, but I don't think that everyone takes advantage of this fact the best that the could. And yes, the beta is killing LBP1.2010-11-15 20:52:00

Nice post Silverleon.

While I would love to play the levels, my PS3 is still down. I can't get on it whatsoever. So I mainly stay on the PSP side and feedback there.

Sorry.

Well, I only am when needed, or to make a pun, or two, but it would be rather dumb acting like that when trying to help someone, that would only weaken the statement.

Also, a lot of my non-BETA tester friends are getting rather down, because no one's even cared about their levels and were always being ignored in the showcase, some were thinking of quitting.

After I came to check out how active were their threads, I suddendly noticed the incredibly low on views and posts on most of the level threads, and come on, that's just not right, whatever happende to the good old "LBPC, the best place to advertise your levels," where most level threads had AT LEAST 20 replies?

Seems kinda unfair how all those people take so much time and effort in their levels, (mostly.) just to get ignored, and how many rising star creators have already quit for the lack of motivation, because I've seen some pretty good levels be as good as ignored too.

So I just decided to help.
Believe it or not, there's always been a nice guy inside that bulk of Sarcasm and Cynicism, he just doesn't get to appear as much nowdays.

I made a thread like this some time ago like months, but i guess no one cares...the only ones who can make a difference is ourselves playing there levels etc, Ive still seen ALOT of people creating in lbp1 including and yeah its feels umm...depressing that most people like me get ignored alot, but well idk what to say hopefully one day some levels out there will get atleast 1 or 4 more plays i mean, Id be happy if atleast one of my lvls had 100 plays or 500 or something but...thats just the way things look like now.. =/2010-11-15 23:14:00

Wow, really guys...?
http://i56.tinypic.com/2yxkljs.png

A bit more than a month later and everthing's the same, if not worse?
Very well then, seems a simple reminder is not enough to bring this Site back on track...then we shall start a movement!

We'll start the LSAT, the Level Showcase Awareness Team!
For anyone interested in actually helping the cause, instead of just saying "YEah you're right" and forget about it, feel free to join the new LSAT Headquarters! (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/group.php?groupid=728)

Lets us not allow this site to turn into a youtube discussion forum, and bring it back to the Forum it was meant to be, an LBP Forum!

Who knows? It could be just bad timing because of LBP2's release just around the corner.

But still look at those ^ the views aren't very high...they still shouldn't be completely ignored just because LBP2's almost here.

yea.. i'm hoping it's just the timing of things. with LBP2 out soon and being the last few of months of the year, people may be just going thru the transition stage of Family priorities on wrapping up 2010 and getting ready to settle into 2011. Not to worry, i'm sure the Level Showcase will be back better than ever.. and thanks to Silverleon and many other Members with such moral support for LBPC, i'm quite confident that everything will turn out great.

I'm certain it's the beta that's the cause of most of this. There are so many members here that have played LBP enough and got into the beta. Most of those members probably don't go roaming around the showcase threads much because, well... there isn't a point for doing so at the moment. I find it hard to even put the LBP1 disc in so long that the beta is on my hard drive.

Frankly, the LBP1 level forum is about doomed. We are so close to LBP2 and I can't even imagine the number of people who will join here and/or go from the LBP1 Level Showcase to the LBP2 one. Yet don't fret, the LBP2 showcase will be teeming with business by the time it's released, and you can count on that.

Also, we need to put a level link as one of the big, pink links. I don't know how we -- the members --,the mods, or CC could live without a levels link up there. I'm angry now...

I was just going to say, if you think the LBP1 F4F forums are slow, wait until 1/18/2010. Though I'm sure people are going to go midnight_heist poop over the LBP2 F4F forums!

midnight_heist is an ape. Get it?
