Custom Music Looping

Archive: 9 posts

I'm just wondering, if it is possible to make it loop from the middle? As in, only the intro is played once, so when it reaches the end, it contines from the middle. It would be a great feature for the music creator!

If this isn't possible, then can the effect be faked with two music pieces? The first would be the intro and the second would be the looping music. The intro's sequencer at the end would then activate the other music piece which would loop.

Can this be done?

No, but you can put 2nd sequencer at the end with copied middle part, there one issue, when LBP2 (and LBP1 do it too) switches music there fade out effect of old one, so you need to add it in to equalization.

Ofcorse middle loop is a good suggestion

I've tried it a few times unsuccessfully. I've even tried to nest music sequencers inside each other in an attempt to get more tracks playing as it's pretty limiting with regards to having too much going on at once. The music sequencer is pretty disappointing in my view. But if you keep it fairly simple you can yield some half decent results.2010-11-14 06:10:00

So far I haven't even touched music sequencers-- I don't have a musical bone in my body (I like music and can appreciate it, but I'm useless at making it), so I don't know what all the limitations of the music sequencer are. Can its input be set to positional like the logic sequencer? Can you put the instrument objects on a logic sequencer instead of a music one? If either of those are possible, I might have a solution for you, but I'll have to give it s'more thought to be sure.2010-11-14 09:32:00

That's disapointing. Sadly, I'm not in the beta, so I asked if looping music from the middle was possible in the first place. If only MM would give us such a feature...2010-11-14 12:30:00

@Sehven, music sequencer don't even have input options and you can't put instruments on logic sequencer.

They could add ability to set loop point on music sequencer as a tweak ;]

It seems the best way to make your music loop in a seemless transition is to compose it as an "ouroboros" arrangement, ideally ending the sequence with a bridge that helps the crescendo flow into the intro.

Imagine your tune as a snake devouring it's own tail...

^I believe he's making a diferent-ish tune for the 1st part, that doesn't mingle too well with the already made mid-section m8, and he only wants the midsection looping, otherwise he would've most likeely done that already.

@OP:
Try making it 2 music boxes, the Op & the loop.
At the begining just play the op, and place a destroy switch on itself to activate when it ends, and activate the loop part at the same time.

Hope that helps!

That's probably the best solution you can get, but unfortunately it doesn't solve the transition problem where the music noticeably stops or fades or whatever it does. It's too bad the music elements can't be used outside the music sequencer like the sound objects can. I always thought there was potential for some pretty clever logic in lbp1 music (anything that's repeated like a base line or whatever could just be looped instead of being placed over and over like all the music levels did it), but you can't do any of that with the music tools. I suppose you could use the sound object's instrument sounds to create a transition to cover the gap but I don't know if all the sounds you would need are available in the regular speaker shaped sound object.2010-11-14 15:16:00
