Hey everyone! I'm here again with a level Ive put some love into. I think this is my most detailed level yet. Big thanks to Ninjamicwz, Sabre_ and Mr. Orange for helping me finish this level when I was stuck with no ideas and zerotiger99 for keeping me company for the entire building period of the level. My inspiration for this level came from a suggestion from XxFrogboyxX that I should do a steampunk themed level after playing one of my older, rushed levels from last year. So I went to youtube and watched some historical video which got me interested in it enough to build a level with the theme but i wanted to add a pirate like theme to it. I also had inspiration from other steampunk-like levels from Mrsupercomputer, thecooper8, steve_big_guns, assassin7177 and Lock-Breaker. Also it gave me an excuse to make an airship .

I would like to thank the following people for all the crazy testing periods I put them through: zerotiger99, zynax555, silence_rai, dragonvarsity, Psyntens, princessk12, NEO, nitewalker11, centurion24, bmoney, XFrogboyX, sam9866, Booxely, Cog_Spartan and Lockstitch.

Just played it again, great work! The only thing I can really comment on is the cannonballs at the end. I don't know if I'm the only one, but I just don't find grey golf balls all that threatening, but that's really just me. Other than that, it was a fantastic level, and I'm proud to have the #4 spot on the hi-scores! Curse you NinjaMcWiz...2010-11-12 03:43:00

muhaha @ above post.
I stole your #4 spot.

Great level man, the best one from you imo.
I did have one layer switching annoyance, hard to explain where, but not that big of a deal. It was at that part where you jump up from left to right going up on the platforms that have spikes on the end. At the base of that bit, I jumped to the right (from moving platform) and layer switched to the first moving spike platform which kinda killed me.
But no big deal.
Another layer switching part was with a bubble combo where you had to land and layer switch foward really quick to get said combo. Might be a feature though. Also not a big deal.

Oh, you can also get the prize bubble after the ramp pulls up. The bolt isn't attached (I'm guessing it only there for visuals) and you can get in the little gap after you have pressed both red switches.
I would also have the golf balls fall down the hole and disappear out of the player's sight.
And perhaps make the intro skippable? Might not be possible, but always a good thing to have for people attempting for highscore, etc.
Had no other problems.

Great visuals, with some good gameplay in there as well.
5 stars and a heart from me. :o

LOL everyone says that about the cannonball...until it kills them . Thanks for testing for me and playing after it was finished. Sorry I didnt add you to the OP. I was in a hurry. Will add you to it right awaywith some others.

> Ive been trying to stop that for awhile. If a super jump happens you can jump onto that platform. I can move the thin gate up some but hopefully that doesnt block the player's way up.
Another layer switching part was with a bubble combo where you had to land and layer switch foward really quick to get said combo. Might be a feature though. Also not a big deal.
That one I cant even explain. The front 2 layers are 1 layer and the back layer has its own but sometimes it makes you switch. Idk why it does this but Ill leave it as a combo challenge

Oh, you can also get the prize bubble after the ramp pulls up. The bolt isn't attached (I'm guessing it only there for visuals) and you can get in the little gap after you have pressed both red switches.
Hmm its not attached? Ill go check it out.
I would also have the golf balls fall down the hole and disappear out of the player's sight.
Good idea . Idk why I didnt think of that in the first place. Have to battle with the complex shape thermo again though
And perhaps make the intro skippable? Might not be possible, but always a good thing to have for people attempting for highscore, etc.
I might be able to do that but the way of doing might back fire lol. On the ship theres a horn that you can set off by pulling on it. I could have it where if a player pull on it they can skip the intro and ofcoarse add a speech bubble explaining this ingame.
Had no other problems.

Great visuals, with some good gameplay in there as well.
5 stars and a heart from me. :o

What?! ^ Im speechless

Hi, i played your level earlier and thought it was VERY good, i love levels like that. I especially loved the anchor firing at the beginning, that moment, i knew the level would be great, i give it :star::star::star::star::star: and <3 well done

F4F, could you try my level https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=39310-Tales-from-Steam-City-Union-Freight

Well I played this with booxley and midnight_heist yesterday night and man is it fun in multiplayer! I loved the whole "maybe I could take the scenic route" bit, more like a getting killed many more times because your racing for the high score path! Overall loved the whole level and the spinning wheels thoughout gave me a good time, being one of the first platforming elements you lean about from playing lbp, even after all this time, it's still a fun gameplay element all-around. Gave it a 5 :star: and a <3 You give steampunk a good name! Btw, loved the stickering and decorating all over the place and.. could you F4F my level Ashton Chronicles 1: Hidden Water Temple? A link to it is in my sig.2010-11-12 20:02:00

Hey L1ght!! my wife and i played your level and as expected has been great, very good job and also a very good use of steampunk style, the boat as you had mentioned is great, i liked the effect that adds to blow anchor, lighting, design, traps, obstacles, secrets, and everything has really been very good, there was a party had not seen in your work project and has been impressive, i liked the idea of bullets the guns, the game-play is fun and all this time i was watching the high standard you'd develop only i have to say is a big job dude.

I have given :star::star::star::star::star: and <3

Replying to what midnight_heist said above, why not have a custom sticker you collect at the end of the level trigger a switch which disables the intro in the beginning. And just a though, maybe you could add race gate, I know you already have one, but it might be a cool addition 2010-11-13 16:24:00

Alright, update time. I did most of th fixes from midnight_heist's list.

- Fixed the un-bolted latch for the cannon in the engine room. Still wondering how it got loose in the first place
- Made the thin gate higher and so the player doesnt get killed. It can still kill you if you super jump to the next platform and you dont have quick fingers XD.
- The cannonballs are now hidden when theyre disappearing.

@ Psyntens

Thanks bro! Means alot coming from you. I wish you had kept up with your steampunk project so you, sabre and I couldve made like a steampunk pack of levels but we'll do something like that in the future . Tell your wife I said thanks too .

@ damaz10

Just seen your edit so ill play your level right away. Also idk if ill be able to get the skip intro or another race in. I know another area to put a race in but the thermo is at the edge. Ill still ty though

this is your best work yet, and i know you put a ton of time into it. everytime i popped in to see, you'd turned a bland rough draft area into a heavily detailed and dense mechanical beast. the lighting is just right throughout and never causes any performance issues, so it makes places seem hot and active, and calm and serene/scenic where it needs it. sticker and deco work is epic, and you crammed every type of gameplay into these areas, so props. good thought out point placement for chains etc i think it's one of the best looking levels out there, and doesn't slack at all in gameplay... it's even fun with multiple people.there's no hitches with layers, and the way you swoop out back to where you started in a quick jump (like from both secret areas) is slick.2010-11-13 20:35:00

Awesome level like always. You do a fantastic job of immersing the player at the beginning of the level with the ship docking sequence. It sets a high bar very early in the level, the good thing is, the level is constantly meeting it. I love the contrast in visuals; the rough, gritty land mass paired with the calm and serene sky works great and helps create a mood for the level. There are so many details that make the level stand out with the boiling water and nails sticking out of the ground being my favorites. The gameplay was challenging but fair, which is nice to see. One other thing that stood out to me were the excellently placed secrets, although you can see them, it's not obvious how you actually get to them.
It was cool seeing this level evolve whenever I came into create mode
5 stars and heart.

Terrific little level you've got here! Very detailed on fun.

I loved the visual style and the puzzles, and the combination of two completely different themes. They flowed together quite nicely. I liked how you would take a simple concept (like opening a door) and throw in a little twist, or a way that made it longer. It really enforces the idea of a well planned level. I also really liked the cutscene at the beginning. I really didn't see the pirate aspect of the level too much in it. I just felt like I was up in the sky in a steampunk style area. I don't really know how to bring it in though.

Thank you very much for what you say bro, i too would like to publish my level with you, just know that when i got the beta i was really very happy because i wanted to be part of the onset of LBP 2, but hopefully now we already have complete set of three can do a series on the topic as we share now, my wife also thanks you're allowed to enter the building on your level and we've been part of development of a high level as yours.

First of all thx for reviewing my level. Heres my review for you:

Pro
+Amazing scenery
+Well chosen materials, music, deco, etc.
+Cool obstacles
+Great lighting
+Good lenght

The only point from me that is not positive is that the level reminds me on the Sky Factory by steve_big_guns. This is not really negative but a more innovative levelidea would have been good.
Overall I loved the level. Keep up the great work:

Well, it actually is the only LBP level I've played this month, but it surely would still be the best. Incredible visuals and great gameplay. Just awesome.

Thanks Ninja sensai! Couldn't have made this as good with out you, especially with your expetise in sound and special effects. Some people still dont believe I didnt use the thermo glitch to cram so much in until they saw it for themselves.

Well, you know, that docking sequence was a pain to make. Took a week to make it before I could actually start making the platforming sections, lol. You can thank Ninja for the 1st one. He set the bar on how to place a secret area. Hopefully i followed up with a good one of my own. Haha, Im glad you like pressuring and pestering me in create mode. Like how you would come in and say "Get to work!". Fun times lol

I got that alot too. If I make another Ill try to make it more pirate like. I guess I focused more on the steampunk aspect since a group of us were working on making steampunk levels.

Other than having an airship taking you to the main area, whats simalar to Sky Factory? Ive been getting that alot with nothing to back it up. I did have alot of inspiration from it aswell as other levels because they are truly fun levels. Thanks for the rating and stars

Arr mateys! That's an brilliant level lad. The steampunk style visuals looked fantastic and the gameplay is really powerful thanks to inventive puzzles and platforming. The beginning of the level where you dropped the anchor is brilliantly genius too. VERY VERY GOOD LEVEL. This was above and beyond. Im confused, your saying you actually did all of this with OUT using the thermo glitch???? Im in awww on how you managed to fit so much content. As for similarities to Sky Factory, yeah, there is one, there both derived and built steampunk style, lol & that be it. Great job and I truly wish I could give some good feedback back but there's simply nothing I could add to such a well polished level! 5 Stars and Hearted. Oh, and the reference to the pirate theme mixed in, I thought it was present through out with the narrative you added...

Would love to hear your feedback on my own level in my signature if its not too much to ask. Appreciate to hear it from someone with such a knack for there artistic approach on things!

I am reviewing this one from memory; I played this level twice now of which once with a friend. This level works just as great with two players, as far as I can tell.

It is everything what I would expect of an LBP steampunk level. Great visuals, mechanics and traps. The only improvement I would have to suggest is that - after the landing - the pirate aspect does not get a reference anymore until you reach the decorated scoreboard. There is so much (storytelling) potential with these two themes combined, it screams 'sequel!'.

Overall a great level. It's an inspiration to me and it sets a very high standard for quality.

Hey, i was just playing your level again( its one of those you can just keep playing) and im going to be a bit nosy here, im curious how you made them propellers at the start, after deleting the decorations, i can see something spinning, and i have nothing like that in my poppit, is it something from one of the DLC packs? 2010-11-18 18:44:00

I'm pretty sure that would be the Miner's Drill, am I right? If it is spinning on the z axis that is... I couldn't tell you what pack it's from though.

Idk the name of the item but its the drill thats in the Incredibles pack. The propeller is hard to make (to me). Ive only been able to make it once. I had to go to my Umbra Valley level and rip it from the fan that uses the same propeller. Hope this helped.

Hey L1GhTmArE,

I wanted to do the honor of giving the same feedback you gave me in my latest level. I really appreciate any feedback coming from you and that I'm truly grateful( kind of repeating myself,oh well, can't help myself).

I had the honor of playing it today and seriously have to say that my mouth dropped from the first intro to the last part of the score board. I love the attention to the detail you put into your level. As such, I know that takes a lot of creativity. Definitely something you have. The game play was fun with enough tricky parts through out your level that got you thinking. Unfortunately, there were plenty of times that got me fustrated, but in a good way. Wanting more and more to not give up and keep on trying if I died. The background lighting was perfect with the theme of your level. This was original in contrast to the many steampunk style levels that I've encountered. It was both soothing to watch as it was to have that feeling of being there.

My only gripe(a small one at that) was the part where I had to turn the rusted metal wheel to activate the bottom room. I had to jump numerous times having to guess which direction to turn and only one side of the wheel was grabbable. This if any was the only fault I found for myself.

Still, your level is considered one of the best in my book. I can't imagine this level not getting spotlighted. I still have the rest of your levels to try out.
You got:star::star::star::star::star: and <3 from me. Well done bro

Thanks for the kind words Triple! I spent alot of time trying to get everything right in this level. Took alot of reworking to get everything in. The valve wheel is only grabbable on 1 side so theres no confusion on the directon to turn it. Do you think 3 turns of the valve is too many?

Thanks for the stars and heart Hope you enjoy the rest of my levels.

I don't necessarily think 3 turns is too much but to some players, it might. Just a thought. I personally would make it 2 that way it wouldn't get players guessing too much. Only a suggestion.2010-11-25 20:42:00

I don't know how you do it, but you crank out crazy awesome levels like mad! This one was really something. One of my favorite levels of all time is Sky Factory by SteveBigGuns and this was the coolest thing I have seen since. I love a visually entertaining level, and this totally was. Extremely detailed, super smooth, not too hard so once again :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 and definitely a replay or two (or three, or four, or five)2010-12-10 01:09:00

Oh, i remember this level like it was yesterday! It was awesome, and found by pure chance too. I had to replay it multiple times to try and find all of the goodies too! Excellent work!
You've got a definite 5:star: and <3 from me!

As I understand it, you and Sabre released in tandem to give us a plethora of STEAM lvls? If that's right-- Congratulations I enjoyed both very much. But while his is good and a nice distraction... You're getting short-changed being lumped in with any level by comparison!

This level is a triumph from start to finish. It is fun, challenging, beautiful, and captured my imagination. Very nice work. As a creator/curator I think its' leaps and bounds beyond anything else you've done. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the kind words Gravel! I agree that its my best made level so far. On this level, I was actually striving for a 5 stars and make it still challenging and fair at the same time. I guess I can't have both lol. Its a 5 in my book. I have big plans for the sequal on LBP2 so be on the look out. Arrrrr!
