SteamJunk Sabre_ Description Venture through the SteamJunk mixed with Steam and Junk such as toxic waste. The level is kind of short due to thermo but hopefully to rate me on the level then the length. This level was inspired by Kn0cked-0ut level SteamFunk.Special thanks go out to my partner in crime L1ghtmare and my good friend NinjaMicWZ for there help in this level. Also would like to thank my beta testers: booXely,DragonVarsity,DarkCloudRepeat,Silence_Rai, L1ghtmare, NinjaMicWZ,Joskus, Psyntens, Zynax,nitewalker11, centurion24, bmoney for testing my level and giving me feedback on my level. Fun platforming paired with great visuals make this level a blast to play. I especially liked the shift in atmosphere when you emerge from the interior; seeing the night sky was really cool. Overall great level, even if it was short. Five stars and a heart! | 2010-11-12 01:45:00 Author: zynax555 Posts: 170 |
I tested the level too... Anyway, I thought it was a great level. I don't know if you've fixed the things I pointed out in the beta thread, but it is a fantabolus level nonetheless, go out and play it! | 2010-11-12 02:06:00 Author: booXely Posts: 654 |
OK played it again and it went quite smoothly, I found no problems. The dirty, junk layered style was carried out very well, everything was disgusting to the point that it was believable and good to look at. The subtle use of the extra layers for the stars was extremely effective, gave that glimmer of beauty that told me not all is ugly in the world within that level. Slightly more difficult then the average level but still enjoyable to play, since it was short I do not see any problems in the future if a player ever gets stuck and has to restart. In the end after playing I gave it :star::star::star::star::star: I also tested the level in beta stages, but it was alongside dragonvarsity so I had no doubt he took note of the small things we both (which was actually all him) noticed. | 2010-11-12 02:30:00 Author: Darkcloudrepeat Posts: 606 |

Just got through playing this level and here is my take: Visuals were great. Gameplay was fun. I did not find any problems in your levels. Overall, a well thought out level with nice visuals and fun to play. Good work. | 2010-11-12 05:37:00 Author: Garak101 Posts: 101 |
Thanks Garak for feedback glad you enjoyed the level with no problems ill keep you posted on anymore upcoming levels that i may end up doing. | 2010-11-12 07:07:00 Author: Sabre_ Posts: 653 |
Hiya Sabre!! now if you've played your level with my wife and we felt special, i do add a different tone in general level and that has enhanced a lot, the game is fun, with great visual appeal, a great number of obstacles and above all excellent ideas, i liked the contrast of materials, machinery, and the overall atmosphere of the whole level is impressive, has achieved excellent growth and make a very good level, there is just something i have to mention it's a shame is short, i would have liked to see more of this high level. I have given :star::star::star::star::star: and <3 | 2010-11-12 21:01:00 Author: psyntens Posts: 562 |
Phew, what a ride! Haven't had that much adrenaline and fun since Ladylyns FIRESTART level! Hokay, here we go. The gameplay was very smooth. All of the mistakes made were my own and not that of the levels. Very nice. As I raced along the level, I only glanced at the visuals, but I could easily tell they were very pretty. Nothing distorted my fun due to overly visual things. I like the use of the pipe decoration, thought that was really cool. All the camera angles worked, and as far as I could see, there were no flaws at all! Just pure (albeit short) fun. I wouldn't be surprised if this level got spotlighted :3 | 2010-11-13 05:48:00 Author: Laharl Posts: 152 |
@killa_toddzilla it's funny cause i just stumbled upon this one half an hour ago and here it is sooooooo here goes...... It's fun i liked it my only critique would be the name steamjunk its obvious you're making fun of steampunk, and some might be offended by that .not necessarily me, but to those who are actually into steampunk. Awesome level with a cheap name. | 2010-11-13 07:20:00 Author: Sabre_ Posts: 653 |
Sorry for the message above I accidently hit Enter and now cant re-edit it but as I was saying.. @KILLA__TODDZILLA It's funny cause I just stumbled upon this one half an hour ago and here it is sooooooo here goes...... Awesome level with a cheap name. No, you got it all wrong if you READ MY DESCRIPTION its saying the level is made with S T E A M and J U N K such as TOXIC WASTE.. its a level made with both things and the junk comes from the areas looking cludered like the beginning of the level so if anyone took it offensive its you and only you everyone else like the level and felt no offence towards it you just took it the wrong way. Might wanna start reading first before posting about it in this thread instead of pm me asking why I name it that if you felt that way, not trying to be rude but thats the way I took it as I read it sorry. But anyway thanks for playing @Laharl Phew, what a ride! Haven't had that much adrenaline and fun since Ladylyns FIRESTART level! Hokay, here we go. The gameplay was very smooth. Glad you enjoyed it @Psyntens Yeah I know I would of added of new section but due to short time of working on it couldn't really think of a section so had to end it and have enough thermo for keys but glad you and your wife liked the level | 2010-11-13 07:31:00 Author: Sabre_ Posts: 653 |
Pro +Great style +Well used materials, decorations, etc. +More or less innovative obstacles +Good platforming The only negative point was said by yourself: Its relatively short, but I know the thermo problem Overall its a very good level, keep up good work: :star::star::star::star::star: F4F My level: Persian Dreams | 2010-11-13 08:04:00 Author: se-mi92 Posts: 101 |
- Got squished on the landing platform after the R1 conveyor. - After the jet/chain falling platforms, I jumped off the last one, onto the barrel which killed me. - Second bouncer pad doesn't work too well. Needs some more air space above it. Out of control from the player. Seems like the race was an excuse for the short length or at least an afterthought. (called it V) ...but at first I didn't have a race but I added it there to make it more fun I guess. What's the point in spending all that thermo on visuals if the player is racing through the level as fast as possible? You have a cutscene magic mouth in the level..It certainly stops the player in their tracks. I would replace the button for another two-way switch, and take out the magic mouths, as the bubbles guide the player. The part where the gas appears from pipes with platform inbetween also slows down the player too much for a race imo. My advice would be to make the race optional or something... I don't know, not entirely sure on this one. In short, nice visuals, gameplay could use some tweaking. | 2010-11-13 08:09:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |

Thanks for the feedback heist never fails with you, surprise its not 21 crazy negatives like Umbra valley -_- lol. anyway are the first 3 negatives towards the level? because if they are there more like personally mistakes and the toxic barrel that you jump on if it killed you idk why but it is a barrel with toxic over it. The gas in between the pipes is there for a reason but cannot say its for the player to figure out. I added the race for the whole level because it fits the level perfect (my opinion) and makes it even more fun. But thanks for playing the level. | 2010-11-13 08:33:00 Author: Sabre_ Posts: 653 |

I added the race for the whole level because it fits the level perfect (my opinion) and makes it even more fun. But thanks for playing the level. A low number of negatives from me means you are getting better.. in some respects. They are not personal at all. Here goes. - You should minimize poor geometry wherever possible. It's not fair on the player if they die from a element that doesn't even look like a hazard. It's like having invisible gas in the corner. Unfair to the player. - The barrel is tipped on the side (http://www.mtn18.com/latest_news/3chemical_spill.jpg). Nothing on the top should be lethal. There is no green gas/goo on the top. The player can clearly see the goo on the ground, just like in the picture, which should be the only lethal component. Again, it's like having an invisible hazard if you die on the top. Unfair to the player. - There is very little skill involved while attempting to use that second bouncer. It's kind of like a poor bomb survival where the player's success is dependant on luck. But in this case it's costing the player points everytime it fails. You can't say it's skill. The other two bouncers work fine, so should this one. Unfair to the player. | 2010-11-13 09:02:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
Your okay man, like I said just at the time I when I read it I wasnt in 100% good mood and not worried about it no more. | 2010-11-13 14:36:00 Author: Sabre_ Posts: 653 |
This level was great! I love the dirty atmosphere and feeling of being rushed through it. The gameplay was inventive, but I suggest varying hazards more than you did. Also, I found the bucket issue that midnight_heist mentioned very frustrating. The end felt a little sudden. I wanted more! (Btw, please feedback If Trees Could Speak. It's in My Creations of my profile.) | 2010-11-13 18:43:00 Author: Jaslow Posts: 775 |
i played the level alot to get my score right, and never failed from anything cheap or that wasn't my fault. i'm glad it was a race with tight bubble chain placements. i love score challenges, and hardly anybody makes race levels with a great visuals. to hit the 3 bouncers, simply land on #1 and don't touch anything. if you plan ahead, you can land in the final horizontal spring launch by bouncing just right off the first bounce pad, or you can bounce up to the 3rd one, or bounce from the 2nd one to the top. if you press jump when you hit the 2nd pad you will alter your trajectory and hit the directing arc overhead rather than rolling with it, causing a fall. sabre has a bunch of great steampunk levels hearted, and he and l1ghtmare created their levels in tandem specifically to make a couple really cool steam punk levels. | 2010-11-13 18:50:00 Author: Unknown User |

Thanks Ninja I couldn't had put that in a better way if it was the other way around. Im glad you liked the level and had fun with the score challenges .. And if everyone read what he put about those jump pads thats exactly how it should be done he nailed that right on point. Thanks again Ninja for the feedback @Jaslow This level was great! Also, I found the bucket issue that midnight_heist mentioned very frustrating. The end felt a little sudden. I wanted more! (Btw, please feedback If Trees Could Speak. Sometimes you die and sometimes you wont I guess but the bucket is easy to avoid so I don't really see how thats killing anyone unless your intentionally jumping on top of it.. But yea thanks im glad you thought it was a good level and will get to your level as soon as I can. | 2010-11-13 19:17:00 Author: Sabre_ Posts: 653 |
Awesome steampunk style level Sabre_. The platforming is a blast and the visuals looked fantastic thanks to material choices [especially the History map] and corner edit. However, I did encounter a problem in this level and that's one of the hooks near the end of the level got stuck in one of the wheels and I got stuck so I have to restart the level. Overall, great job. 5 stars and a heart. If you like, play and F4F "The Hero Chronicles LV8 Phantom Planet Part 1 and 2" even though you beta tested it for me. | 2010-11-17 01:55:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
Sabre_ Very good level. It had a tremendous amount of detail and it was quite the platformer and yes, it was difficult but I managed to complete. Ironically on the parts that I felt shouldnt be hard were the parts I had problems with (jumping from the cogs, platforms that lower into the gas). There's not much I can say, I wish I could give you something but I couldnt find any, perhaps on the lowering platforms I cheated a bit, if you stand on the out most edge of the platform, it will not lower and allow you to jump to the next one without any issues. Fantastic level! :star::star::star::star::star: And obviously you dont need to review my level again | 2010-11-19 01:31:00 Author: John82wa Posts: 221 |
Liked this one for it's toxic waste theme; done very well. Most obstacles were about that theme and that is always a strong plus for me. It makes sense. I also liked the circular route you follow at the start. Though it is limited here, I like levels that make you go around a second time with obstacles slightly changed due to your first pass through. | 2010-11-19 19:20:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |
Ver, very nice level. A pleasure to play. I like the whole theme, as it is nicely executed. The only things I didn't enjoy too much were the three cogs above the floor of spikes. It just took me a while to get around it. I just think it could've been designed a little bit better. Also, I think the race should be the default, but you should be able to skip it if you'd like a recreational play or something along those lines. Anyway, great level! :star::star::star::star::star: and <3 | 2010-11-19 19:55:00 Author: piggabling Posts: 2979 |
Hey Sabre, Just finished playing your level with my kids and am very impressed with the detail you put into your level. I definitely love the atmosphere of toxic waste. That went very well with the theme of your level. Both my kids and I enjoyed the gameplay with both difficulty and funness(if that's even a word). I did however encounter a bug where the second hook that pulls you up never retracted when I died. I had to restart and didn't have that same problem again(minor never the less). I do agree that it is a bit short with my kids and I wanting more. Hopefully you will make a part 2(hint,hint). I'm glad to see levels like this being played. Just wished you got more recognition with more hearts and plays as I see it deserving of that. I am curious how you managed to have the moving steel floor constant without any seams or repetitiveness like I see in most moving floors. That in itself tells me the type of creator you are. Awesome job and well deserving. Appreciate your feedback on my level "Lost Ruins of Panatra". I look forward to playing the rest of your levels. I gave you a deserving :star::star::star::star::star: and <3 you and the level. | 2010-11-20 08:44:00 Author: tripple_sss Posts: 250 |
wow. The visuals of this level are amazing! The usage of the decorations and stickers give that steampunk-y and junk-y feeling very well. Apart from the visuals; it had new gameplay elements and that is something very important in LBP; creativity! I didn't witness any bugs or flaws and i doubt there is any. At first i couldn't figure out that i can grab the conveynorbelt (i can't seem to spell that right) like black thing at the beginning and kept trying to grab the R1 stickered part instead. That's my fault though, not yours. Well, i guess i won't be able to say anything original about this level (they have already been said by other users)... so; This level is a "must play!" (a.k.a. five starts). I'd say you can reduce the amount of different materials used/decorations to reduce the thermo, but the visuals are so good that i don't think that is necessary at all. Good Job! | 2010-11-27 11:26:00 Author: Mick'o'Mania Posts: 83 |
HOW TO CHEAT THE THERMO Make a square of Dark Matter, put a Grab Switch and a Emitter (Lifetime - Infinite AND EMIT ONE UNIQUE TIME) , set the emitter to spawn what you want and change the switch to Invert, when the Emitter emit what you set to emit you change the object to emit for a Score bubble by example. NEVER DESTROY THE DARK MATTER AND YOU CAN'T CHANGE NOTHING THAT WAS EMITTED! -------------------------------------------------------- I'll play your level later! Sounds nice. | 2010-12-02 20:23:00 Author: Cauan-XV Posts: 491 |
@Mick'O'Mania,John82wa, AntiKris -Thank yall for playing and enjoying the visuals of the level. It sucks that I had to make it short but was kind of in a hurry to get the level done. But glad you all liked it @PiggaBling -Thanks for the review Pigga really appreciate it. You make the 1st person who had said something about the cog area. I had expected everyone would say something about it but you make the 1st . Its pretty easy once you get use to it, you just got to time the jump & it'll throw you right up. Thanks again for the review @Cauan-XV -Glad your going to test it in all but was the extra stuff up top necessary? not trying to be rude or anything just wondering why put that.. @Tripple_sss Thanks for the review Tripple! happy to hear you and your kids had fun playing the level. I know the shortness of the level kind of killed the fun but I was in bit of a hurry of completing it. Also lol for part 2 I might somewhat make one but probably for lbp2 lol. But thanks for your feedback | 2010-12-02 22:32:00 Author: Sabre_ Posts: 653 |

This is what you call a good level, great work, loved all the decorations they really matched with the junkyard theme. Im not very good at races but i got in the top 100 scores, considering that level has like more than 1000 plays (could be wrong, thats just of the top of my head) thats pretty good for me. When i came to the area where youu made the night sky that was when the level was at it highest peak of awesomeness, i liked it how when i got near the end of the level you like throw the sackboy into the scoreboard, cool idea. Overall great level, i gave it :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 Could you check out my level the Arabian Ruins (just got to the cool levels page, awesome!) | 2010-12-05 01:18:00 Author: nillrecuring Posts: 104 |
Wow this seems so familiar, I've been inactive on lbp and lbpc for a while until lbp2 comes out but man! A few months ago I made a level named SteamFunk, it has the same steampunk look and use of materials/stickers/decorations.. Its also a relatively short race :o Are you sure you didn't get inspiration from my level xD! If so, Im honoured | 2010-12-05 19:54:00 Author: Kn0cked-0ut Posts: 562 |
Yeah I posted that in the description that the inspiration came from you lol and yea I used same decoration pattern but stickers came from me though I was planning on using them that way and didn't copy materials from you. I used the metal with the map looking material. but at first I didn't have a race but I added it there to make it more fun I guess. | 2010-12-06 22:39:00 Author: Sabre_ Posts: 653 |
Thanks for adding it Im honoured! | 2010-12-07 14:05:00 Author: Kn0cked-0ut Posts: 562 |
I have played your level as beta tester^^ I must say: "It was a very nice level" It haves a great level style | 2010-12-07 22:03:00 Author: Unknown User |
@Cauan-XV -Glad your going to test it in all but was the extra stuff up top necessary? not trying to be rude or anything just wondering why put that.. Is it because you said the level was small because of the thermometer so i thought you did not know the Thermo Cheat. Sorry for the delay in the answer but is that i was not following your topic. | 2010-12-09 21:37:00 Author: Cauan-XV Posts: 491 |
Oh okay and yea already know about it but dont use it. I had enough thermo for 1 more section but kinda rushed the level. | 2010-12-14 07:11:00 Author: Sabre_ Posts: 653 |
Hey man! Your level was fun. Kudos on that. While I know Midnight Heists' observations can sometimes feel cold as a steel 'sabre'... He's really, really, good at offering honest feedback. My experience was almost exactly as he wrote... toxic barrel, gas to slow, race after-thought, et al. Just want you to know, a smile was on my face ( well maybe a grimmace... oh those cogs! ) the whole time! Thanks. | 2010-12-14 14:27:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
I know how his feedback is and whatever he think is his opinion no sweat over here. But anyway, as for the toxic barrel killing people is probably a bug because me & lightmare replayed it so many times & that barrel didnt kill me once. I was standing on top of it jumping and everything but nothing happened so yeah..... thanks for playing | 2010-12-14 16:47:00 Author: Sabre_ Posts: 653 |
Oh, another Steampunk level, I love them. And this one seems pretty nice, too. Well, let's begin with the feedback. Nothing to say about the visuals, amazing, except one thing. What are that? Radioactive scories? In a Steampunk level? Why? A Steampunk levels means to be all "powered" with steam, and the nuclear power is one of the lastest innovation. I'd suggest leaving them. So, let's talk about the gameplay. Here, too, nothing to say: it was pretty original, funny, with a good use of a lot of elements. But I lost many lives in the beginning: when the pipe throws you in the air, I hadn't thought about hanging there: you used two "R1" signs, why didn't you use the third one? Ah, I just loved the outdoor parts, expecially the night sky. Wonderful. Nothing else to add. Awesome level, really cool visuals and gameplay. :star::star::star::star::star: <3 I'd like if you tried my level for F4F: "The Long Night of Mr. Krom" or "Mm Squad's Christmas mission: Protect the Pack!" by xDante95x. You can find the thread clicking on "My Creations" under my nickname. Just choose one of them and play it, then give me a little feedback | 2010-12-22 17:18:00 Author: Dante95 Posts: 504 |
This level was great! Extremely decorative, just like Steampunk Skallywags. I had trouble seeing the grabbable ceilings in the first room, but figured it out after 2 tries, so no big deal. It looked liked some of those gears were handmade, and they looked magnificent! I loved the whole thing beginning to end and gave it :star::star::star::star::star: | 2010-12-24 20:09:00 Author: Jayhawk_er Posts: 403 |
