Community Objects Organization

Archive: 14 posts

After collecting a bunch of community items, I reached the item limit, and decided to get rid of some of the items that I didn't want. I noticed many things that could be improved with the present implementation to the item system.

1. No way to access to the community items outside of create mode.

Now I could be wrong, but I couldn't find any way to delete unwanted items unless I was in create mode. It would be much more convenient if players could just organize their items from the start menu or their pod.

2. Community objects "Created By LittleBigPlanet"

I noticed that some objects that I've collected, and some I've even made, state the they were created by LittleBigPlanet, and make no mention of the objects creator. I'm not sure what the criteria is for determining this, but the player that makes the object should get some credit.

Another problem with this is that these objects end up being categorized in "My Objects," whether I created them or not.

3. No way to categorized your collected objects.

The in game objects can be categorized by type (balls, food, creatures, etc), so why not player created objects? Yes there is the "hearted" feature, but I'm sure it would be much more convenient for players to group their objects into more than one category. The uncategorized items could go into a "Recent Objects" group to be sorted or deleted later.

4. No way to refuse garbage items.

Apparently there is a limit to the number of items that you can collect while online. If you exceed this limit, the player will be continually reminded of this fact by way of pop up messages.

One solution that could be implemented could be a prompt that asks that user player if they want to keep these items, or not. If the user doesn't want to be bothered with this prompt, there could be an option to just accept the items automatically.

5. The same item offered in multiple stages.

For some reason if the player has already collected an item in a previous stage, it already counts as collected if the item is offered in any other stage. Now I could be wrong, but I'm assuming that this counts towards the "All Items Collected" bonus. Even if the item is already collected in previous stages, the items in the next stage should still be collected in order to obtain this bonus. There could be a sort of check box system that checks off the items as they are being collected in the stage. After all the items have been checked off, then the player can get the reward for collecting them all.

This system could also work for deleted items. If the item was collected, but the player decided that he didn't want it, the player wouldn't receive the item if they decide to play the level again. If the player decides later that they want the item after deleting it, there could be an option to downloaded again by going back to the recently played level.

6. Objects with no name

This is just a minor annoyance for me, but I've noticed that a lot of the items that I've collected have not been named. This could be be be solved but a prompt for a name immediately after the new item is saved. If the person doesn't want to name it, they can always set it to default.

That's all I can think of for now. I'm sure I'll think of more as I play the game.

To go with the organising, I'd like to have different pages for Machines, Enemies etc etc..2008-11-01 15:46:00

Id like to see some sort of categorization tool as well. As for the other stuff, I could probably put up with.2008-11-01 17:12:00

I love this, it would be so much easier for you to categorize not only your own objects but the rest of the community's too

I thought of an idea that I thought would be nice in regaurd to filter out collecting garbage prizes. The server could keep track of a queue of the most recent prizes that you've collected. Let's say the most recent 100 prizes, for example. Then you can look over the list of prizes, and pick out the items that you really want to save to your Community Objects page. That way your Community Object page wouldn't fill up so fast, and the player wouldn't have to deal with the "Your profile can't be saved" message as much.2008-11-12 19:00:00

How many items do you need to reach the limit? I have really only just started adding object to my objects page, and if the limit is small i might consider being a bit more selective in what i save.....2008-11-13 01:02:00

I'm not sure exactly, but it doesn't seem to be much.2008-11-13 04:59:00

Fully agree here. I really don't want to have to go all the way into create mode just to delete something dumb that I won for playing a terrible level. It'd be better to let me decide I don't want it sooner. Preferably as soon as I exit back to the pod, I can decide what to keep and what to leave.

It shouldn't be too annoying. After all, Final Fantasy 7 (and other RPGs) basically made you do this after every battle.

This should be implemented at the end of the level so the flow of gameplay isn't interrupted.

I agree with you that you should be prompted to name items as well.

It would be nice to be able to sort the items by type as you collect them. I also noticed that some items are put into the community page, and some into my page - when I did not make them myself. If they could make the whole item location thing clearer it would be good. The same could be said of pictures as well.

I also agree with the name item concept. It would be frustrating though constantly having to name stuff while building prototypes though. Maybe that's why it is as it is.

They might have limited the ability to check things in the pod as you need to spawn the object once you click on it in create... and the pod is really small. I'm guessing that's why it's so.

How many of you would be for an option that made it so you automatically didn't collect any community objects?2008-12-01 02:49:00

If you never collected any objects at all, then you would not be able to collect customised sticker switch items. I mean the stickers that activate them by that statement, not items that come from the switches.

No, I'd rather be able to decide after I leave the level.

Ok then how about an option that automatically trashed the items once you finished the level. I suppose this would be the same as reviewing which items you want at the end. They would just have a "trash all" button.
