'Tis the season to be jolly fa la la la la .la la .la laaaa


Welcome one and all to the first LBPC Community Chessboard 5 Christmas Edition! obviously with mayhem :kz:

There'll be snowmen wielding flamethrowers, mates torching mates, explosive presents, hell bent holly, carnivorous candy canes, terrible trees or maybe someone firing a missile at Santa and his reindeer's as they go about their business...

The aim is to have this done in time for Christmas



So gather round with your pixels and let the festivities begin!

Absolutely no opening presents before Christmas

Rules

- You must fill 1 square. No more, no less.

- If there is a gray outline around your box, you must fill it in (At the thicker edges of the grid, only draw on the inside pixel/s)
(I don't think this one really matters as long as people don't leave the grey lines between squares.)

- You must say when you are taking a turn, and when you have finished your turn. This is so other people know if they can have a go or not.

- If you say you are taking a turn, but do not submit your piece within 2 hours, your turn is invalidated, and it goes onto the next person.

- You can only say you're taking a turn AFTER the last person has posted their edit.

- Try to make your piece fit in with any surrounding pieces.

- PNG File Format only! (Important >=O)

- Try to upload to somewhere such as tinypic if necessary.

- Pixel art only. This means you can use MS Paint too.

- Do not modify anyone else's block unless you have that person's permission.

- If there's any confusion regarding the rules, just ask. The squares are deliberately small, so it's easier for the "less artistic" to join in too.

- Basically, if you want a turn, just say you'll have one, then copy the previous image into your editing program and edit away. Don't forget to edit your post and put it in.

- If someone has called a spot, then everyone else must wait for said sackperson to finish their square. However, if they take more then a few hours, then do not wait for them.

- Only call a square if you are going to work on it RIGHT then. Do not hold anyone else up. :kz:

The leg is just a leg with a santa hat(xD), and i added part of the tree as well as a window(which i would've drawn a snowman on fire outside, but alas, there wasn't room.)

Wait what?! I looked again and indeed ferrets last post containing tile is jpeg but the other 2 are png. I could see all her pics though where people were saying can't see so I dunno if she edited or something strange is going on.

Also gonna take a tile now!

Looks like we have a half jpeg half png thing going on here. gonna try fix the blur.

Silver yours got hit the hardest, plus that's where it seemed to go downhill Make sure you save as png. If you copy the image before yours and place yours over it, it should have same colours etc and generally look identical except for your added tile, if not something went wrong.		2010-11-12 13:48:00

You don't need to be sorry, lot's of us aren't very good at pixel art, me included. Although I'm getting better with my fire compared to the first time I tried. I saw it as a sled on fire straight away, I am starting to like the idea of a flaming poop however

It doesn't matter so much at the moment, but, during the more active times we don't want people waiting in queue to have a go.

Also, just to spice things up a bit, lets try and stray away from the group of squares in the middle and spread them out a bit. Having to join up odd pieces if half the fun and it makes the chessboards a lot more interesting.

Anyway it's looking great so far, this Christmas theme has worked really well, nice idea OEB. And this has actually been a lot more fun than I thought it would be to host.		2010-11-13 03:13:00

EDIT 2: (after loads of work around my paint trying to get it fixed, i realised that the problem was in the image itself, so i print-screened the page with the image, then i cutted all the stuff around it, then copied the new image to a new paint window, and then saved... and it worked!)

I was looking at some info about Sumo Paint and it says that images can be saved as PNG files. Do you have any idea why they might be saving as JPEG? because your chessboard is JPEG again

We really need to figure out why it's doing that.

If you compare some earlier edits with the newer ones, the newer ones look darker.

OEB already fixed one, so it didn't start to happen again until just recently. I fixed it now, but we're trying to figure out what causes it before it happens again.		2010-11-14 03:13:00

Dunno why buts it seems to be a disease that effects all chessboards. Maybe it's because we all have different graphics cards and when we save images the colours rendered are ever so slightly different, fast forward that several tiles and saves later, boom, darkness. It can be a pain to fix the longer you leave it.Its easy to spot with layers if you hide the new one overlaying the previous chessboard and flick between both. If anyone spots this please don't leave it, attempt to fix it or point it out and let someone fix it before continuing. It can really make some colours look total meh and the darker they go the harder it is to discern different colours.		2010-11-14 03:20:00

I don't think we need to make it bigger. Last time the other board was almost finished, but we just dropped interest. Knowing this one, it'll drop a bit and pick right back pu before Christmas.

The only way a square can be ruined is if it doesn't connect to at least one of the surrounding squares. I don't believe a square can be ruined simply by adding to it, that's what makes the chessboards fun, the way that different ideas come together to make a single picture.

I've found that myself as well, I've called a couple of turns just to return to delete my post.
I've been thinking of removing my blue elevator thing, even though I think it looks pretty cool, so that can go. The other squares that I think could go are the orange face and the two fish things. I think everything else is fine.

Last time I added one there was a border and I edited that so it has re appeared for now

Scroll up to Mercuys post and back to mine to see the difference, blue for skies and water is probably most noticeable, the room was quite darker too. Also I erased one of jpeg areas as I really couldn't make out what it was through the blur. Square is next to the very left window in the room.
