LittleBigPlanet DLC news

Developer Media Molecule has ?a rather scarily long list of great ideas for ways to support the community? after LittleBigPlanet launches - but is waiting to see what people want first.

?We?ve got loads of plans, we?re going to support it massively,? studio founder Alex Evans told Eurogamer. ?Content packs, new objects, new game modes? All of this stuff could be done. What we?re basically waiting to see is what the demand is for.

?We can do all of that stuff - we will do all of that stuff - but what order we do it in, and how much weight we throw behind any of the different ideas that different people have got, is totally down to what the community does,? he continued.

?That really excites me, because if people are loving the costumes, we can crank them out. If people are loving the levels and master classes? We?ve got a slightly scarily long list of great ideas for ways to support the community, and it's just a matter of prioritising at this stage.?

As to what users will be paying for that content - if anything - Media Molecule hasn?t made up its mind yet, but there?ll definitely be some freebies in the mix.

?All options are open,? Evans informed us. ?I can definitely say that there will be content that?s available to people free of charge - I?m just not saying exactly what that content is going to be right now.

?I can also say that if there?s any way we can reward the community, we?ll go there. If people are clamouring for big chunks of content, it would make total sense for us to do it. We?re just exploring all options at this point. Sequels? Why not! DLC? Yeah, why not! Paid-for content? Why not!?

Look out for our full interview with Alex Evans soon.

I love that they have so much planned for this game even after launch. Which could be outfits, music, backgrounds, new materials, complete levels,etc.. But I'm still wondering how anything other than free dlc is going to work? If one person buys dlc and makes a level with it and publishes it. And another person doesn't buy the dlc. Will the person that makes it have to add a disclaimer? This level was made with paid dlc packs this, this, and this, items must be purchased for it to work? Or could you just wait for someone else to purchase it, publish a level with the content, download it and get it for free2008-08-04 13:53:00

But how would you get the objects out of the level? I doubt they will make you pay for objects, unless you get like 500-1000. Maybe just levels? But that would be stupid when there will be thousands, millions even, for free. Maybe just new outfits?2008-08-04 14:03:00

If, for example, water is one of the DLC.. they may either let you play levels with water in, but you can't re-create it or wind a chunk of the level with water in, because you dont have the DLC... or restrict you from playing levels with water in. I think its gonna be one or the other.

Very reassuring.

I'd think something as fundamental as Water would be a freebie, though as you said, maybe letting you to create water levels might require a purchase. In any case, very good news. Thanks!

Yeah I have a feeling they're going to go the opposite direction that most games go in DLC wise, and give away the essentials for free and the optionals they will charge a little for

(i.e. water = free
costume pack = charge)

seems to fit better with LBP.

Yes, a lot of money is to be gained from the level marketplace. I'm pretty sure that it will indeed happen, and that it will indeed be a good thing for the game and for players. To really get people buying levels made by others, you need to bring out the core additions free of charge.2008-08-04 15:18:00

Thought about what you said and I thought that makes since. Only objects that people have have created in game could be saved and reused for yourself. But if someone created an elaborate machine using water, pulleys,& water buckets. It wouldn't work for you if you didn't have water downloaded and tried to copy it and reuse it. So in this case water would probably be something everyone could download free.

It hasn't been said other things could be copied and reused for your own use from other peoples levels. Like outfits for sackboys, music(new music from Media Molecule not personal music),backgrounds. So that could be items that you could pay for.

But if the items didn't show up because you don't have them downloaded. The person that published the level may not be able to express their ideas as they intended. But if we can see the new items after we download a level but not use them. It would be a great way to get everyone to go and pay for the download to use for their self.

Your making me think to much about this Sambo110! LOL

Great news. I don't care about the price for this game. If there's a special edition, I'm getting that. I'll probably get all the DLC, maybe with a few exceptions.2008-08-04 18:14:00

What are master classes?

Masterclasses are tutorials, where you learn all the special things and tricks, for example building levels or something else. It will just help you to make levels with more quality.

I didn't know about those. I'm a tutorial freak; I'll do all of them before I start playing the single player.

Yes, I think that it will go that way too with me. I first just want to play it, dan maybe look around in the creation-thing to see what is possible, and then finish the singleplayer

True, I will too. I just read an article that says "everything in the main game is made so you can see how it's done" e.g. you can see all the switches etc etc, just so you get the hang of the more complicated parts.2008-08-05 22:40:00

In my mind, I thought that you could edit the main story levels after you beat the level.

I think you can edit anything, any time..But doing that's kinda like cheating?

Nah, I'm fairly confident you can't edit the single player levels when you're playing through them. You can copy the levels and create your own version of them, but you can't make the single player game easier for yourself by editing the maps.

You can put stickers on stuff while in-game, but that's about it I'd guess.

Fair enough, but, there's an article from an interview somewhere that states "Some places you won't be able to get to until you've unlocked certain items", you get me?

I'm not sure tbh.

I remember that as well. I believe that was either a) pointing out that some levels might be different on the second playthrough or b) there are a lot of concealed bonuses in levels, so if you explore all bits and pieces, you'll find some switch or something that opens up a new section.

It shouldn't be about editing the level per se. Though in one preview they *did* mention that when you make levels, you can either lock the whole level so it's uneditable, or you can lock parts of it.

Nevertheless, I'm 100% sure that most if not all of the built-in levels are uneditable when playing through, because they don't want you screwing up the experience by mangling up their levels and creating shortcuts and whatnot.

That's what I thought too, lol. I'd prefer what you said, cause I just know I'd end up cheating, and I don't want to. I wanna get the full experience of the game 2008-08-06 13:32:00

Yeah, there's very minimal in-game level editing. Almost certain you have to beat the level before "remixing" it.2008-08-06 15:18:00
