Why do Pistons Hate Me?

Archive: 8 posts

Whenever I attach a Mag Key Switch (Set to On/Off setting) to a piston, the piston takes FOREVER before deciding to move even when the Switch is activated.

Main thing I'm trying to do is ask for solutions or possible workarounds to this glitch.

try taking the key outside or inside the swtich's radius.
it works for me

Can you be more specific, like what are the settings on switch/ key, and what is it exactly what you're trying to do?2010-11-07 17:14:00

Mag Key Switch
Behavior: ON/OFF
Radius: 15
Inverted: X
Visible: X

The Piston in Question
Max Length: 905.4
Min. Length: 0.0
Strength: 10.0
Time: 80
Pause: 0.0
Sync: 0.0
Stiff: Yes
Flipper: X
Backwards
Visible: X

And to put more detail I have an AND gate that activates an elevator that has to stop every now and then.

And I know the AND switch is activating the elevator because I also rigged it to activate something else (That I saw activate well before the piston started moving)

That happened to me with a winch obstacle, but it started working about 6 seconds after the tweak. As for your problem I think its the piston's length.2010-11-07 18:20:00

There's not much I can do about the length since it has to get up that high.2010-11-07 18:22:00

Well... a piston set to engage in On/off mode takes awhile to sync up with the timing of itself after any changes are made. It might be part of what you are seeing is after you make a change and save, that it takes a bit for it to get back into sync. Especially considering the time of 80secs for the trip!

Directional pistons are much quicker to move, but you will have to do quite a bit more logic to be able to work it if for example you are wanting it to move and stop between floors as well as reverse directions. I think there is a pretty good tutorial in the LBPC logic pack on how to do something like this if you are interested.

AH HA!

I get this problem loads, the piston pauses for as long as you set its 'time' to. I have found a reliable way of fixing it is to turn 'backwards' on, however saving can mess this up. Also try un-pausing in edit mode till the piston moves, then pause again and save.

I think it is due, as Jwws says, to a long piston length (my title lifts are often over 200).
