Tweakable Light properties during gameplay

Archive: 12 posts

I was wondering if it was possible to have a light source change colors (same light) during game play. Goal is to have a player bring different objects to it and the light will change accordingly... Anyone have luck with this?2010-11-06 17:55:00

Every light source has an "On" state and an "Off" state. Simply attach a switch to the light source, and the usually faded "Off" state settiings at the bottom of its popit menu will light up, and you can select the "Off" state for your light. Remember to adjust the brightness too, else the light will remain darkened on the "Off" state.2010-11-06 17:57:00

But that would simply be turning it on and off correct? My goal is to have the light show seven different colors. For instance, the player will bring a mag key over (in this case lets say blue) and the light would thus change from its previous color (lets say yellow) to the color of the mag key (which would be blue).

So changing from Yellow to Blue to Green to orange and so forth...all depending on the mag key brought to the light,

Thanks for the quick response!

Make one light for each color key, attach a switch of that color to the light, hook it up, and merge the lights together with the compression tool.

Just let me know if you have any questions

Or, just use seven pieces of hologram in the same place, all set to different colours. Each piece of hologram woulg have a different output of a selector attached to it, so only one piece was illuminated at once. Use tag sensors as the selector's inputs to light up the relevant pieces of hologram.

EDIT: Sorry, my brain is hard-wired in LBP2 mode. I would suggest you follow Starchy's excellent advice and ignore me.

Starchy has it, search the creator TINTED and use his compression tool, it might be annoying to twek after you've merged them though.

EDIT: I think he's talking about LBP 1, us little people don't have the privilege of using hologram.

Where has this tool been all my life

Many many thanks to you guys. This is exactly what I wanted. Curiosity though, does this cheat the thermo or does it take into account each object and its complexity?

UPDATE: So I have obtained the compression tool and have been at it for some time with no success. Im not exactly sure how to get this thing to work? Its an arrow pointing to the right, but whenever I move anything into its location the things explodes into several arrows along with half my level. Am I doing something wrong here? Any help is very much appreciated!!2010-11-07 07:32:00

You have to keep the level paused for the compression tool to work. Simply place it in your level, then I think the idea is that you move all of your lights together and hold them in position with dark matter. Only then do you unpause, so things don't break.2010-11-07 20:09:00

Thank You!!! After going through the tutorial several times and tinkering with it, I finally found what I was doing wrong.

Apparently when your doing objects they need to be glued to a separate material as stated in the tutorial and your post Holquin, but what I was doing was trying to glue them all to the same material (this case dark matter) and merge them all to this one spot. But what needs to be done is to glue each indivual light with all the properties set in advance and glue it to its very own dark matter. Then move each light (again, each has its own piece of dark matter) to the point where they are to merge. Carry this process out and presto! You have one light that can be several colors.....fantastic!!

Thank you all for your help and guidance to the compression tool!!

Actually, what you can do is move each into place in pause mode on it's own and then glue all of them to a single piece of darkmatter. If you then delete the darkmatter, you will have them glued to each other with no extra materials attached.

I tried that originally, but when I place any additional light over the top, it would not allow me to glue them and im forced to press the 'O' on the controller and let them simply stay on top of one another. Only the first one will glue, none others after. Hmmm, so I think your suggesting moving them all into place and then take the dark matter and glue it after and then delete after un-paused. I think I may have had it backwards...Thanks, will give it a try!
