so today i found a 5~10 gallon glass aquarium n the schools "junk" pile as i was leaving school. and it just so happens that i have enough money to set it up and get some friends for my lone betta... just one problem, i have done research on food and tempurature for tropical fish... but don't know exactly which type/s to get... so yah. I need tropical fish that can survive at 76* faranheit and do fine in a 5~10 gallon tank i will get decor based on your opinions, and will post a picture of the finished tank with the fish when done... but again I need tropical fish that can survive at 76* faranheit and do fine in a 5~10 gallon tank!!!! | 2010-11-06 04:35:00 Author: theswweet Posts: 2468 |
I used to take care of tanks in a schools aquarium. (before you say anything it was like 10 tanks all full of amazing fish) There was a tropical tank. The fish i remember in there were 2 Clown Fish, 1 Blue Tang, 1 Flame Angel, 2 Zebra Angel, and Koran Angel. There was a lined cleaner shrimp and a sea cucumber as well. I took some pictures of the fish one day, uploading them to Photobucket now so you can see them, ill add a link to the images when they are done. We also had a shark tank (not big sharks though ) some endangered turtles and fish and a tide pool tank. EDIT: here is the link to the album. (http://s1225.photobucket.com/albums/ee384/TheAffected/MaST%20Aquarium%20Fish/) Pictures are still uploading though so there arent many things to see... | 2010-11-06 05:01:00 Author: TheAffected Posts: 626 |
Some tetras, though those can be sensitive to PH. I'd say go with ~4-5 platys, they tend to be hardy, and don't get too big. Personally, I love loaches (http://www.loaches.com/), but they tend to like living in groups, and need more living space. | 2010-11-06 05:28:00 Author: Fishrock123 Posts: 1578 |
hmm, i'm getting a filter (customer reviews from what seemed like hobbyists said the one i picked was the best one, and a great deal only being $15) so i'm pretty sure i will be fine with tetras... platys seem nice, ok. heres what i'm thnking two fancy guppies two jumbo neon tetras(apparently the name is deceptive) and a platy, don't know which type i want yet seems fine to me... any other thoughts? perhaps on decor i need | 2010-11-06 16:35:00 Author: theswweet Posts: 2468 |
You do realize that betta fish kill other fish, right? I had a betta fish once, but it died... | 2010-11-06 16:38:00 Author: Stoicrow Posts: 276 |
you do realize they only kill other fish if they are, or look like bettas right? plus they never fight the opposite gender, even the opposite gender betta! and besides... tetras, platys, and i think guppies, are all bigger, so he wouldn't dare! | 2010-11-06 16:41:00 Author: theswweet Posts: 2468 |

If I had an aquarium I would like to put a miniature city of Rapture. Would be awesome. | 2010-11-06 16:52:00 Author: gdn001 Posts: 5891 |
