(one word) TREES!!!!

Archive: 13 posts

Hey LBPC. I'm currently in the works with a fun forest level and I think it looks awesome! But I need a little help on making trees. So far in my level i haven't made one tree except for using trees that i found in other levels and the reason for that is when i try it always looks terrible, like a 3 year old made it in 1 minute. Can i PLEASE have some advice on making trees besides telling me just to use the corner editing tool. All your advice will be appreciated 2010-11-06 00:05:00

1. Get object merger
2. Merge doll heads till you get a tree shape
3. Paint heads green
4. ??????
5. FOREST!!!

but yeah there is a thread here that tells you where you can get an object merging tool and how to use it.

Using doll heads and painting them green looks really good.

Ill bring the thread to you in a minute.

Edit: here it is. (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=24434-Merging-Objects-or-Materials-aka-Compression-Tool&p=423511#post423511)

The tool is on a community level by the user tooth_pick210

A great technique, but credit should go to Morgana for pioneering it. Not the compression bit, but the stickering doll's heads green bit.

Well.. Actually that was Kiminski in the water beta last year that was the first to use it and was credited to her by Morgana in her creator spotlight. Julesyjules also used it quite a bit.

I like my trees in Chucky the Caustic Caterpillar. Quite thermo inefficient though!!

Yep - Kiminsky's the originator and Julseyjules and I used it to death. I have a new favorite tree type now though. You've both seen it Ungreth & Jw 2010-11-06 03:00:00

I tend to do my trees more geometrically. Use the corner editor to drag out some spiky branches (if you're stuck there's a cool tree sticker from the Wilderness theme that you can use as a guide). Then in another layer, place some cubes (or whatever shape you fancy) of floral sponge over each other so they make an interesting tree shape, then copy them into your branches layer and voila - you have a tree.

The dolls' heads do look awesome though.

LBP PSP has a cool tree idea you might want to consider. There is a thick layer trunk split into 2 pieces, one standing on top of the other slightly spaced apart. there connected by thin layer and sprung bolt. At the top is a grabbable piece. So you have to grab and swing to the next treetop. Sorry if my explanation isn't that great. It's kind of the reverse of a sponge hanging from a string if you get what I mean.2010-11-12 23:21:00

Does it happen to use those fuzzy cloud objects in LBP2?

Anyway, I have trouble making trees too. I usually get around it somehow though.

For example, I take Mm's tree from the Savannah, make a cutout clone of it, and edit it a bit.

Sometimes I also just go for a 'storybook' look, and make trees that are MEANT to look terrible.

One tip for when making a stand alone tree is to use 1 thin layer and 1 thick layer. Generally the thin for the trunk of the tree and the thick as its roots. It can also be done vice versa; it helps add some needed depth. Also as mentioned before teddy bear bodies painted green make for a great looking mass of leaves.2010-11-18 00:38:00
