Unique Creators

Archive: 10 posts

Yeah, i was recently reading Jump_buttons thread, and it really makes sense, so i kinda find the umm "itch" lol to discuss about it with all of you. Just out of Curiosity about what creators are "Unque" and which arent.

I wont judge anyone or make anyone feel bad but its the truth about something i read "Art Theft" and not just that but "Mechanic and Scenery Theft etc", like for example, ever since Lockstich appeared with his unique style all of a sudden we're all starting to see alot of similar lvls, so i was wondering if any of you would...

Write down "Unique Creators", and by that im sure you know what i mean,
So far i have these i wanted to share with you. and its ironic cause ive seen people "snatching" or "Copying" these creators ideas...(Next to their names i'll write what is so Unique about there creations that have been copied by others etc)

-Jump_button (Sky Ballon theme, Black and White, Ico style lvls)
-Morgana (Dragons and Lighting style effects)
-Lockstich (Platform Mechanics)
-Steve Big Guns (Fun Platforming, Cogs and going through pipes)
-Ricky Bobby (Tim Burtonish Art)
-Lone-Fenix (Scenery and Story Telling)
-Ice Maiden ( Designs, Story telling etc...)
-Ladylin (pretty much everything ladylin has done, has been copied one way or another)
-Fender (Vertigo 1,2 and 3 also Jaja Land and her style in scenery etc...)
-the_cooper (his cartoony art style)
-(Music Creators) (everyone is different, so theres no way to compare them)
-Comphermc (gameplay ideas, mechanics etc)
-Evilpanda (Gameplay ideas and the style of his Levels)
-(Art Creators) (like ninjaferret, kendrakay etc, there all unique but there art has been copied by others, Especially flowers)
-Bloo (Zelda lvls, Purgatory Effect Style lvls, Scenery and Story telling, and his Art style is somewhat weird but lol its unique)
-Anposteller (Art style and Destruction action style levels)

Other than that not sure who else, i forgot some , i hope i can remember soon, i was wondering if any one could share some others, id love to check them out
(Sorry for spelling btw)

I forgot to mention, something very unique about steve big guns, in his latest level, basicly all he used was decorations i mean wow, his way of decorating is very unique, so far theres nothing like that and probably soon we will see people copying that.

I honestly don't see much of a point to this. What really shines through about most of the creators you've mentioned is not that they're unique but that you can tell they care about what they're making and have invested a lot of time and effort into their creations. And for me Little Big Planet is all about learning from other people, sharing with them, and building upon what others have done before as most of these creators seem to do, not a pretentious idea of uniqueness.2010-11-06 03:05:00

You sir, hit the nail on the head. i couldn't agree more.

Ladylin levels are copied, as they allow (some or all?) of their levels to be copy free. When you put your level out there, what do you expect people to do? Just play and not take notice? When your level gets 50,000 plays, your level just got played by 50,000 people, that is not just a number. You can't expect none of the players to get inspired, you inspire people, if they choose to "supposedly" copy "your" art style or game play ideas, can you blame them for it? If you don't want people to "steal" your ideas or "unique" art, then don't show so many people it.

Lockstich levels were never unique either, pulling switches endlessly was always there, he just got on the cool pages.

Also, please explain what you think is "unique", are you talking about abstract unique? Or attention to detail?

Unique...it's the way they build, it's the way the levels look, feel. Lockstitch employs a simple jagged style, with complex illusory and magic, that is unique. It's not switches, every level could have switches, but they are all not the same. When a level isn't unique, it is obviously near or very similar to another level, however, this is not always a bad thing, because some levels are simply inspired by other levels, thus they look or feel similar.

I'd say that every creator here, just about everyone, is unique. As long as you don't copy, of course.

I think here we are talking about unique creators in the mean of creators that simply stand out, that are "special".
In short, this is yet again a "what you're favorite creators thread" but just with a different skin.

Well everyone is a unique creator and im not just talking about how a level look but how it plays its soul if you will, They should try and put they own ideas into levels and not just look into LBP for ideas to much.2010-11-06 19:46:00

I think what jumpbutton means is that some levels are based on swingy gameplay, some are all about timing, and some like his are just calm and beautiful.2010-11-06 20:06:00

None of my levels are copy free. Also I don't think I have such a unique style like Jump_button or Lockstitch... I haven't really ever thought of anyone's levels as a copy of my style cos I really don't know what 'my style' is.
