LBP.me Suggestions

Archive: 14 posts

So here's some thing's I'd like to see for LBP.me.

- Comment section on the level. It would probably be linked with the comments from the game.
- Blog section. You could post written tutorials or just give an update on a project you have going or anything else.
- Video embed. This is a maybe, but you could put a video on a page of a level. The video wouldn't have to be a playthrough of the level. It could be the level in create mode, or a tutorial on something you made for the level, or even music from the level.
- Ability to edit the description of a level from LBP.me. [EDIT:] Also, ability to change your description (About Me section).

Any thoughts?

imo for same reason why they not added hearting and rating there, they want t make people actually play before do so same might be with comments so you can only view them. Not to mention, such function open gates for spam bots. Hmmmm, they could at least allow authors of level to post reply also rate the comments

But you know it's MM decision so no body knows

Thats interesting idea, but again it depends how MM see it, is LBP.me is more LBP status service or social community service.

Video embed.

Well how to solve the problem that they can embed every video? imo it could be look little trashy

- Ability to edit the description of a level from LBP.me.

Great idea

What about only being able to comment on levels on LBP.me if you have played them?

I do want to be able to comment on the computer since it allows me to comment without disturbing the people playing with me. However they would need a way to stop spam bots. Perhaps the ability to post 1 comment on the level if you have played it in the last hour.2010-11-06 16:38:00

Anyway LBP.me is still in development stage, quite few days they finally activated "More" button so we can see more stuff not only x first... so it's quite early and we don't know what they plan to add

Also i suspect LBP.me may go public before LBP2, since this service also for LBP1

Shadowriver, your right. It is more how Mm wants to manage the site. Plus, I realize you could use LBPCentral for some of those anyways. I just think it would be more convenient if it was right there.

That's a good idea. It'd definitely prevent spammers. Not to mention you have to be signed into the site to comment.

EDIT:

Hmmmm, they could at least allow authors of level to [...] rate the comments.
I just found this out recently, but you can actually rate the comments, in-game though.

I have just one question, bearing in mind that i know absolutely nothing about websites and memory and stuff like that, but adding videos is going to take up a lot of memory isnt it? as well as the fact that there is going to be a page for every level anyone publishes adding videos ( and let me make it clear what i mean here ) is going to slow down servers and use up a lot of memory right? embedding videos from youtube not so much, i understand that, but that will make the level page look trashy and the only other way to save the looks of a page would be to have a custom player??? forgive me for my lack of knowledge but custom, players take up memory right?

EDIT: let me make clear that i would like to see videos and other stuff you recommended, this is just my views on why Mm wont do it

Well first of all. The video embed idea was meant to be a video from YouTube, presumably. Not LBP.me's own video service. I have a little bit of programming knowledge, and in my eyes, the video embeds from YouTube are more of a pointer. Think of it as an icon on your desktop. It doesn't contain all the information on that page, but is gets it from the videos original YouTube page. What is really put on the LBP.me page is the YouTube player, and a pointer to that video, but not the video itself. This is totally my educated guess though. How much memory it is still using after that, I don't know, but I'm guessing it saves some. It's definitely less memory than if LBP.me made it's own video service.

Instead of a video embed function, it could be possible to have a link to your youtube page or to the video. Say in the description of the level or somewhere around your player profile.

Yeah thanks, but i understand how embedding works and stuff i simply meant that , like shadowriver said, embedded videos would look trashy so the only other option to fit in with the looks of the current lbp.me pages would be for Mm to design a custom player to suit it, but yeah i agree that it would be cool, to have videos , i think i would prefer to just link people to the vid 2010-11-22 18:26:00

Hey everyone! I am new to LBP Central and sent this on my introduction page, someone suggested I post this on the LBP.me suggestion page so here it is!
I have been thinking of many different ideas for LBP and one big one is if there can categories in LBP.me (for example, Education, Technology, Web Coding) I realize you can tag but was wondering if there could be categories for specific subjects. Also, the educational power LBP can have is huge. I wonder if there could be some system where players can submit ideas for a level (can be education, or whatever) then others can vote on those ideas and find creators to make them. Users could also have the ability to "donate" to the creators making the level. The funding system is optional, and maybe could be used in some crowd-funding way like the startup kickstarter.com does. Let me know what you guys think of this, how it could be tweaked, and some suggestions on getting Media Molecules attention. I think this system could be HUGE just as Kickstarter.com and other crowd-funding sites are growing exponentially right now.

I think LBP (if it has not already) will change the way people think of games and what we can do with them. I see a future where kids can learn full subjects by playing LBP, and become inspired to create levels and expand their creativity themselves. What do you guys think of all this?

Web Coding? ^^' what? Tags works as categories since you can see catagorizing tag ("race" "survival";] )

With funding, i don't know it would be work with LBP community and i think LBP.me is not place for that anyway, since LBP.me task is to get access to LBP database without need to turn on the game

What i mean about web coding, was the education part of things. With LBP2 you an literally create anything you want. And this opens up HUGE doors for innovation in education. If we can come up with creative ideas to explain certain subjects to people that would go far. Salmon Khan (http://www.youtube.com/khanacademy#p/p) has done a good job of this using Microsoft programs. He puts subjects up online free for people and it has been really catching on as people enjoy learning from his site than any other or institution. This is where LBP could come in in supporting a platform for increased education in students using technology. Of course they are already doing this (http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/13/game-changers-teach-kids-with-littlebigplanet-earn-50k). But I think the platform could be expanded much farther than this with creating a platform for people to submit ideas (ex. 1. I want to learn the basics of particle physics, 2. Have the community vote on all submissions to find out which idea will win ((there will be many ideas, but of course won't be enough time to do them all so a voting system would be best)) 3. Someone that understands the subject can explain it to the community online ((many people can edit the info etc and what they want to go in the level, sort of like Wikipedia) 4. Then the last step is to find someone that is willing to create the level using the platform that was created/suggested by the community.

The donation thing is completely optional (I do not want people using LBP for the sole intention of making money) but I think it gives creators and individuals a motivation to spend more time on a Level instead of maybe their job? If the community would donate money to the best creators out there then they wouldn't need to go to their 9-5 job, and could focus more time on the LBP levels. With the way Crowdfunding and Crowdsourcing is taking off right now I see LBP as a huge opportunity to use technology to create/inspire/educate people. I do not mean for any of these ideas to fragment the community, I think it would actually make the community more robust.

Hope this all makes sense. Cheers!

Well LBP suppose to be platform that you can do anything you like not only education, but ofcorse it can be used that way, but not based as core. As far as i know LBP is about creating and having fun, it's game in general

With ideas and donation thing i think thats something for 3rd parties, specially that idea thing, in fact you can try to do that on central in project sections, but you would need to have good charisma to get creators involved (like RockSauron?) It's interesting idea anyway, you could they to write suggestion for Central for something like that

Your idea is more like whole game direction change idea then LBP.me it could only assist since again it's only HTTP input/output of the game content, what is in the game it's in LBP.me and vice-versa,not whole community central. Not to mention LBP.me is not only official community place, there forums for example:
