Two Sackboy costumes available next week, more later

Archive: 25 posts

So the Spaceman and Pumpkin Head costumes are already available on the Japanese and Hong Kong PSN stores but unfortunately they do not work with the NA copy of LBP (I guess we have to wait until Nov 6). The HK store also has a premium costume for 35$HK which is a black t-shirt with the LBP logo on it in pink.2008-10-31 00:58:00

When do we get the Killzone/Sephiroth/Old Snake/Spaceman/Week 1 T-shirt? Is that on Nov 5 as well?

Also, do we get a pumpkin head in the US?

I had posted this in another thread, but I thought it deserved it's own as it pertains particularly to future releases rather than the JP/HK Stores.

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/10/30/two-sackboy-costumes-available-next-week-more-later/

Are you ready for some LittleBigPlanet downloadable content? The game is now officially out in the US so goodies are going start piling on to the PSN Store, starting next week. First up are two costumes for SackBoy which will be available for a limited time. The "Launch" costume (which you already know about) will be available for free between November 6th and November 19th. A Halloween mask will also be available for free during the same period.

The latest PlayStation Blog post also gives us an indication of more DLC to come in the future. Focusing on costumes for now, there are going to be several price tiers which content can fall into. Special occasion costumes will be free, but only available for a certain time, while community designed costumes will be free of charge and remain on the Store to be downloaded at any time. Paid-for content will be made available with full costumes at $0.99 and "premium" costumes (like the Solid Snake and Sephiroth ones) costing $1.99 each.

There will also be rare content, which could be available for any length of time and for any price, as well as bundles for the paid-for content. Phew. LittleBigPlanet's going to cost us a lot of money in the long run isn't it? Especially when you consider the closing line of the PlayStation Blog post, which states "Stay tuned in a few weeks when we introduce a few more types of LBP DLC that will not only enhance your SackBoy, but expand your Pop-it tool with more objects, materials, stickers, sounds, music and even gameplay enhancements to keep the community refreshed with more creative options." Yes please!

I believe we can expect the Snake/Sephiroth costumes to be available within the next couple of weeks. They will cost $1.99 although I hear there are plans to put costume packs together as to make make the overall purchase cheaper. Logically the Killzone costume should appear when Killzone 2 is released (cross-promotion) although that is only a guess.

The Space Suit, Pumpkin Head and T-shirt will be available Nov 6 on the US PSN store if I am not mistaken.

From what I understood from the psblog is that those will be free.

the bad part is that it sounds like the once free t-shirt will now cost something once its released.... that made me sad....

Great, it looks like they have big plans to expand the game. I'll probably end up buying most everything put up, except for maybe sticker packs.2008-10-31 04:06:00

New costumes and stickers I can live without.

What has me more intrigued is materials for the pop-it. Those are the only things I think I would even consider paying money for only because they actually enhance the game. Yes don't get me wrong stickers and costumes are a nice touch but can only do so much as far as game play which is what I am interested in. I can only hope paid for "premium" stuff will be at a fair price.

The pricing for most items including premium are listed in the link provided, they look reasonable to me.

I hope that the extra popit tool items don't prohibit players who haven't purchased the tools from at least playing the levels. I think it's total BS that we pay 60$(USD) and a few weeks later, the game is no longer complete. This generation of games is really starting to tick me off.

... If this keeps up... next gen, I'm either sticking to PC or pirating everything.

You're going to pay for PC games?

Sorry, the way you worded it sounds like you're undecided as to whether or not you'll pay to play PC games or pirate them instead.

I think I know what you meant though...

I tend to agree that major updates to the game should not be offered at a premium. They should be - and most likely will be in this case - offered at no charge to the customer.

So nobody else think it's a complete rip-off to pay two bucks for a virtual costume?2008-10-31 16:30:00

I agree, however they never stated it would cost anything. In terms of inconsistencies between players, I assume it will work like everything else in LittleBigPlanet does. If one player has the item, and the other doesn't, it doesn't limit interaction at all. I assume you'll be able to play levels made using the new tools, but not be able to access the tools for yourself until you download the content.

Chaz, if the costumes were "required" to complete the game, then I could see someone saying it's a ripoff. But this is strictly optional. There are lots of games out there that charge you for 'bonus' items. You don't need them to win the game, they're just extra 'options'.

I do. The costume pricing is a joke. Something like five costumes for $1 or $2, and I might buy a pack. But one model for $1 or even $2? I guess the LBP DLC won't be any more reasonable than the rip-offs elsewhere. I am disappointed.

Compare this stuff to regular game expansions. Let's say Warhawk since it's a PS3 game. For $10 bucks (at least I thought it was $10?) you get a 'bit' more than a few models that have no gameplay effect at all and are fairly easy to make.

Charging that kind of money for the first few miniscule DLC components is no way to get the community excited about the online support for the game. This is poor policy, and if I'd have to guess, Sony is behind the pricing scheme here, not Media Molecule.
