If a tree fell down?

if a tree fell down in the middle of the forest, and no ones there to to hear it, does it make a sound?

one of the most weirdest question i heard? What do you guys think?

Yes, because if it didn't, the squirrels and birds living inside wouldn't notice that the tree fell, and they'd go on living their lives in a fallen old tree. 2010-11-03 03:24:00

To get more details that it does make sound. It's like saying, if a book falls down and no one's there, does it still make a vibration with sound waves?
Of course it does.

Anyways...apparently to this (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/sound), sound is only produced when the brain perceives it, so no, it does not make a true sound.		2010-11-03 04:23:00

Clearly someone's never lived by a forest. Trees fall down all the time. If trees never fell down, you'd never see any young trees! Maybe they grow old and rot away until they topple, maybe the dirt that their roots in is compromised, maybe just a gust of wind... But they certainly do fall. Actually a tree does make a sound if no one heard it. The sound waves simply don't reach you.

Why not try this? Put something that can record sound (e.g. a camera) in the woods next to a tree that looks like it might fall down. Then come back when it has fallen down (use your psychic powers to know when that is) and if the tree hasn't crushed your camera, watch the footage. You should be able to hear the sound of the tree falling down yet no one was there to hear it. Therefore the answer is yes, it would make a sound.
