Metroid Story Idea (Complete with VERY rough draft)

Archive: 7 posts

Hey everyone, I?m geoffparker88, but you can just call me Geoff. I?m brand new to this site, pretty new to LittleBigPlanet (I've aced all the story levels, played a couple online levels, and tinkered around a little in the My Moon, but I've never made an actual full fledged level) and I've not even owned my new PS3 for a full month. I?m a Nintendo fanboy at heart, which is what drew me to LittleBigPlanet? not to mention, I?m a creative type of person.

Anyway, I love Metroid. Love, love, love Metroid. And I wanted to make a level that tributes Metroid. But seeing as I can?t really have an arm cannon that shoots (I?m not too fond of the paintball gun) I ruled out actually playing as Samus. Plus, remake levels of the Metroid games has been done many times before on LBP, so why go to the trouble to just make yet another that gets lost in the heap?

So, I thought long and hard about it, and I came up with the idea for a story based series of levels that incorporates Samus and all the other mainstays of Metroid, but you aren?t actually playing as Samus herself, nor are you some replacement for Samus. This is a VERY rough sketch of the story so far (by very, I mean I just brainstormed this down and corrected some grammar and spelling mistakes)

Without further ado:

One second, you are asleep in bed, the next, you see an intense, ominous red light shining through your window, and after that, you black out.

(The Dream)

You dream of a beautiful woman. She is a warrior, respected by many, feared by everyone else. But she is also taken for granted, and sometimes even objectified. She?s either seen as a hero in metal or as a hot babe. But never as a human being. She is lonely, but she is used to being a loner, and her lonesome lifestyle has become her comfort zone. What scares her more than all of the alien monsters that she has faced and will come to face is the prospect of fully opening to another person. And besides, she has no time to dwell too much on her loneliness, for she has a more intense feeling? a feeling of hatred, a drive for revenge, against a monster that is responsible for destroying everything and everyone she ever knew and loved. And in this dream, you see that that very thing ? love ? is what she craves even more than revenge, yet she has grown so anti-social and so paranoid that if she ever developed that feeling again for someone, that that someone would be taken away from her, that she has vowed to never feel that feeling again, or at least try her best not to feel it ever again. You know not this woman?s name, but you know, from this dream, what she looks like, in armor and out of armor.

(End of Dream)

When you awaken, you are in a prison cell on an alien space station, and figure out that you are food for a hideous experimental creature ? a Metroid. At first, it looks harmless enough, but as you see it suck the life force out of a cell mate right next to you, you freak. Knowing that it's only a matter of hours until it's next meal (which could be you for all you know) you devise a plan to turn the tables on your captors and have them be the food for the Metroid. (I need to figure out how you do this) ????? As the Metroid is devowering your captors, you make plans to escape unnoticed? but before you do, you hear a cry for help. It is a GF Trooper. You rescue him, and as you do, he thanks you and tells you that there is an important woman on the space station, someone who must be rescued to ensure any hope for galactic peace, or at least any hope in the decline of galactic hell. He says that her name is Samus Aran. At this point, you don't know who Samus Aran is? it's just a name, because you are unaware that this name belongs to the woman you had dreamed about. You set out on a dangerous stealthy mission to free this Samus Aran.

When you finally get to her and see her, you see the woman that you had seen in your dreams. She is being held in suspended animation up in the air, almost as if in a crucifixion stance but without the cross. And she is gravely injured. You instantly fall in love with her nonetheless. And with that love, you feel a strong urge to protect her. You know that if she is the warrior that you had dreamed about, you will never be able to protect her. Quite the opposite, she will need to protect you if anyone needs protecting. That is, except this time. She asks you to retrieve her Varia Suit. She says that normally, she could easily kill every space pirate on the space station, but because she is so gravely injured, she doesn?t know if she could survive. And so, you go out on a quest to retrieve the Varia Suit.

After you find it and return to her, and the two of you meet back up with the GF Trooper, you realize that you must escape. Samus tells you that her ship is destroyed, and that you will have to steal one of the Space Pirates? ships. As you make your way to the hanger, an emergency distress siren sounds, and help is apparently called in by the Space Pirates for the Big Boy himself ? Ridley. As you reach the ship hangar (somehow, Samus and the GF Trooper reach it too, even though it would be tricky for me to have them actually following you during game play) Ridley appears. Samus and the GF Trooper yell for you to get into the ship, but you refuse ? you must insure Samus?s safety. But Samus is too enraged by the site of Ridley to retreat. Her rage and lust for revenge has momentarily overcome her logic. Ridley immediately targets Samus, but you push her out of the way and are therefore whipped out of the way by Ridley?s tail. Ridley is about to finish you off, but the GF Trooper yells at Samus to rescue you and to escape. Samus snaps back to thinking logically, because she realizes that rescuing you and escaping is more important than dying when she is not up to battle her hated enemy. As she gets in the ship, (with you in the passenger?s seat? or should I have, you, the player, driving, due to Samus being injured? but how would you know how to fly an alien space ship?) Ridley targets the ship, and is about to shoot a fireball at it, when the GF Trooper shuts the space door separating the space station?s inside portion from the landing/taking off portion of the space station, thus basically ensuring his own death and sacrificing himself. Yet, before the door can fully close, a space pirate gets a lucky shot that hits the ship, making it malfunction a bit. And so, you and Samus have to make an emergency landing on the mysterious planet that the space station was orbiting. With the crash, you are knocked unconscious. When you awaken, you are in the crashed Pirate ship, but Samus is not there. You set off to try and find her. Little do you know, Ridley is on the planet now too, also trying to find Samus so that he can eliminate her now that she?s vulnerable.

In order to make this story work, I need to be able to make my own cut scenes that show in between game play. And I?m pretty sure that in order to make a truly beautiful looking Samus, I wouldn?t be able to do it without using some pictures of her as stickers. But I don't have a PSEye.

Also, I have an idea of how I can get the Metroid to move and kill the space pirates. First off, make a special version of the space pirate that has a creature brain on the top of its head. Then, put some rockets (that hopefully I can make invisible) on the Metroid and place some stratigacally located Creature Navigators around the scene so that the Metroid can maneuver in the preferred direction. And then, just make the Metroid hover down and hit and destroy the creature brain on the Space Pirate. This would take a lot of logic, I?m guessing, and I?m not too sure if I could even pull it off. Do you think it's possible to make it work?

So, what do you guys think? Does it sound like a intriguing story, or does it sound like a disaster in the making? And if you guys are interested, I?d be glad to have anyone who could help me out who?s more experienced than I am come on board? heck come on board even if you?re as experienced or (don't know how this would be possible) less experienced!

Sweet. I honestly wasn't expecting that much help as Metroid project is sort of a niche project, especially on another system. And I reread the title... the "complete" in "complete with VERY rough draft" was a bad word choice, as it is misleading. I was saying "complete" as a synonym for "with". The levels themselves are not complete. Far from it. I have barely even begun. So if that scares anyone off, I'm sorry for my poor word choice.

Also, quick noob question... how do I add y'all to my friends list thingiemabob?

This is a fantastic idea for a level, I'm amazed at the thought you put into every detail for that story! and with LBP2, It's like..totally possible!! If you're still up to making this, I'd be glad to help. I'm a big Metroid fan too, and great with logic and stuff!2011-11-23 05:28:00
