New LBP2 release date Incorrect.

Archive: 54 posts

Just got an email from amazon (UK) today about my pre-order half expecting to tell me the scheduled delivery would be January sometime, but read for your selves:

Hello,

Unfortunately, the release date for the item(s) listed below was changed by the supplier, and we need to provide you with a new estimated delivery date based on the new release date:

"LittleBigPlanet 2 (PS3)"
Estimated arrival date: December 18 2010

One of Amazon's aims is to provide a convenient and efficient service; in this case, we have fallen short. Please accept our sincere apologies.

You have not been charged for this item. We do not debit money from your payment card until just before your items are dispatched. We will send you a dispatch confirmation email on the date of dispatch.

Thank you for shopping at Amazon.co.uk, we hope to see you again soon.

Please note: This e-mail was sent from a notification-only address that
cannot accept incoming e-mail. Please do not reply to this message.

Sincerely,

Customer Service Department
Amazon.co.uk

And check amazon yourself: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003LL2RHY/ref=oss_product

Dates being removed now...

NOTE: That's my Estimated ARRIVAL date, the email says nothing of a dispatch date but Amazon's website does...

Okay, i can see it changing again but shouldn't they know already, oh well we will have to see what happens...

Straight from Amazon in the last few minutes (21:00):

According to the information we received from our supplier, the "LittleBigPlanet 2 (PS3)" will be released and made in website on December 17, 2010.
Please note that the release date is subject to change. As soon as we are informed of any changes to this date, we will update the website accordingly. We will receive this item from our suppliers in time for the release date.

I assume "made in" is supposed to be "made available"...

I think this should get locked before it gets out of hand.

Unless it is an early Christmas present from Mm...

Locked, not just yet, if (And when) MM email me back and it's false THEN i think it could be locked, as to be honest it is legitimate (Maybe or Maybe not 100% true) news.2010-11-02 17:58:00

I saw this on Amazon yesterday.

Apparantly, the game went Gold last week or something (or so one of my uni lecturers says who spoke to someone from Mm the other day), so there's a possibility it could be true. But I doubt it.

You probably won't get a response emailing Mm, better to email Amazon and ask them to check their facts.

If MM does email back and say that they cannot confirm or deny, then there might be some chance.

I dunno, interesting news, considering what has already been announced.

Sounds like Amazon might have the month wrong...the other UK retailers are listing it as January. I got a similar email from Amazon in the US saying January 18 so we'll see. Who knows, maybe they want to stagger the release so the servers don't take such a beating on release?

Just curious, but you UK guys don't have a Collector's edition?

I don't know what to think any more, before LBP2 was delayed to January I always thought to never believe anything unless it comes from an official source (Sony or Media Molecule). So when I heard LBP2 was going to be delayed I naturally assumed it was false because it hadn't been announced officially. But it turned out to be true.

So I dunno, I'm just gonna assume it's not true to avoid disappointment if it's not true.

Fingers are crossed though.

No, well maybe we don't get a CE straight away but get the standard edition a month before everyone else.

But i can't see Mm being that unfair though... We'll have to see.

Might be a typo, since it says it's out on January 18th 2011 on LBP.com..

EDIT: it says in the OP that it's delayed 'til 18th december 2010, but on Amazon's site it says 17th december 2010 .

According to the information we received from our supplier, the "LittleBigPlanet 2 (PS3)" will be released and made in website on December 17, 2010.

So someone has said this date and it is correct, but whom... Let the speculation and anticipation begin...

GT5 was supposed to be out this Friday and a few others have being released on a Friday too so i wouldn't rule it out.
And it defiantly wasn't auto-generated, read this if you want proof (I also emailed about GT5 at the same time so ignore that):
Hello J Penikis,

I'm sorry for the unexpected delay of your order. I have researched the availability of "Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)" and learned that its release has been delayed.

As soon as the item has been released, we'll be able to dispatch it to you. As per our standard policy, we do not charge you for items until they enter the dispatch process, so you will not be charged for this item until it is about to be sent.

Once we received the new release date from our supplier, we will update it in your order and notify you via email.

In addition to a wide selection of items, one of our aims at Amazon.co.uk is to provide a convenient and efficient service; in this case, we have not met that standard. Once again we are sorry for any inconvenience caused by this issue and hope this will not discourage you from shopping with Amazon.co.uk in the future.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

It's not coming out in December, they've already announced that the game is coming out on Jan 18th. Amazon just haven't gotten word on the new date for whatever reason. Even if LBP had gone gold by then, Sony would upset many retailers if Amazon shipped the game a month early. Also I don't know how you think game releases work, but you don't release a collectors edition a month after you release the game. All the people who would of bought the collectors edition would have already bought the standard edition (unless you're extremely patient) Your just looking into a common mistake a little too much. As much as I'd love to play the game this December, it's not gonna happen. (Unless I get into the Beta hint hint )2010-11-03 00:01:00

I kinda do and don't want it to come out that early.
I do because I get to play over Christmas Break, but I don't because I'm already bored of the BETA. Maybe because I can't find any good levels to play..

The game can't of gone gold, otherwise they would have been able to release it on there original date. As they have stated, the reason for the delay was to get the game 100% for non online users.

I don't really care as long as the game is as bug free as possible...unless it's delayed a year then I wouldn't be so happy But yes...assume this is false until solid proof arrives.
And what is this "gone gold" thing that you speak of?? O.o

Gone gold means finished, being prompted to be pressed and so on.

Key phrases: "suggested" and "estimated."

Also, disproved by Media Molecule via Twitter (http://twitter.com/#%21/LittleBigPlanet/status/29506715449). Moving the thread.

Lastly, know your sources when you post "news" in the News and Media forum, or in any factual based setting for that matter. Here's a quick example:

Good sources

New York Times
Dictionary
Playstation Magazine
Media Molecule
G4TV

Bad Sources

The Guy at the Video Store
Amazon.com
Your Pet
Intuition
Toast

Thank you, and have a nice day.

Thanks for moving the thread schm0, i think we can almost conclusively say that someone has got there facts wrong (Although of course it would have being nice if it where true). I disagree with Amazon being a bad source though, everything I've being told by them has been true, and this is dozens of times as it has got to be one of the only online places i buy things. Anyway overall i didn't see the date as being far out as I've seen loads of varying dates floating around the internet...

Key phrases: "suggested" and "estimated."

Yeah, but "estimated" was my DELIVERY date not the RELEASE date, and trust me where i live your lucky to get anything on time,
anyways the way Amazon said was like it was pure fact at the time, and i just realized the dates gone from Amazon's website... Defiantly not true then...

If you search back through the LBP2 forums, you'll see the dozen or so threads with release dates quoted from various retailers (Amazon, GameStop, etc.) all quoting release dates that were completely off. They shouldn't be relied upon as official information. In the end, only Sony and MM know when this game is going to be released, and they've reiterated (since it has been pushed back) that this date will occur in January, 2011.

Once again amazon have put the release date back as December 17:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-LittleBigPlanet-2-PS3/dp/B003LL2RHY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1289649452&sr=8-1

And the weirdest email yet from amazon:

We are pleased to report that the following item will dispatch sooner than expected:

"LittleBigPlanet 2 (PS3)"
Previous estimated arrival date: December 17 2010 - December 18 2010
New estimated arrival date: December 17 2010
