Feedback on "Donkey Show" Phantasy Level 1 - Need Help with creating Boss monsters

Archive: 19 posts

Alright, let me first begin that I respect "Donkey Show" but I don't respect being lied too.

Alright, I spent probably 6 hours playing his first beta level LittlebigPhantasy (part 1) trying my best to Ace this level, hoping some how I can learn from "Donkey Show" on how he builds his boss characters. Now if your expecting something big, you will be hugely upset like I was. When you Ace the level you will not get the boss, but from the looks of it a very early version that doesn't really function like the other prizes do. Instead it falls apart and the arm pops off which you can not stick back on, the boss also walks backwards. (If you can some how pop the arm back on please show me how to do this, when I selected the arm it doesn't give a detach option.)

I would really love to make big bosses and content for LBP but I cannot do this until someone lets me look at a level or how they built bosses in the game. If anyone is willing to show me how to make complex huge bosses.
I would really appreciate it.

I believe there might be a few better ways to ask for help creating bosses....

You might try just asking nicely in the help forum. Remember that alot of time already went into creating levels for other people to enjoy. The creators dont owe anyone anything.

I would really appreciate it.He has a video in create mode where he shows off his dragon. So you could pause it and try to figure out what the motors are doing and how they are being controlled.

The truth is that nobody can show you unless they make a video dedicated to explaining bosses and how to control their behavior. That sounds like an awesome idea, but, in the meantime, you just have to dive in and try to figure stuff out for yourself. I'm sure nobody showed donkeyshow as he posted a video early on where he made two guys lumbering around like they are retarded. He just used good ol' trial and error tests to figure how the motors work.

First off do you know what Donkey show told me?
If you don't then please don't comment... I asked him very nicely and true the creators don't owe anyone anything. So why should I share my levels with you?

Voltaire - if someone could show me, then I can create content otherwise can't really do much in terms of enemies which makes a game boring in my opinion.

This exchange brings up a pretty good point and actually mirrors alot of whats going on in the IP law realm right now. Do content creators have authorative rights to their creations or does public consumption require that the IP be laid bare? Do they have the right to share somethings and not others? What does this mean for user created content? A very interesting concept. Thanks for bring this up 2008-10-30 21:55:00

You might as well enlighten us and tell us what he told you, if that's ok.

Even if things didn't go like they were supposed to, you shouldn't lash out on people. LordDax has a right to comment, because he made a good point.

In any case, this is also in the wrong section.

okay? thought I am sure he will not be pleased.

Awhile back I asked him if I could use his dragon.
Donkey show "Sure just copy my level". -Launch of LBP happens-
I asked "Why can't I copy your level?"
Donkey Show "People are re-publishing my level and I didn't like that"
I said "sorry to hear that, may I still use your dragon?"
His response "Ace my level and he is yours"
Couple of days and hours go by. I ace the level and I get a broken skeleton dragon which doesn't work". I am just giving feedback and why you shouldn't give your hopes up on Acing a level. Now I am sure you see why I am upset and yes I bring up a good point. What is the point of playing this game when you can't even play with the content when the servers go down. How am I suppose to learn to build and share content?

Concerning Shared Content - I really liked how Shared Content was done in a game called "Second Life" Most the community and people would let you edit objects and share how to make things better. Sadly this game doesn't seem to do that and makes everything only function server side.
This little big planet is going to grow very slowly in my opinion, if no one is sharing good content and learning to grow together.

I would love to help, but seeing as you made your introduction by bashing a member, I'm not too sure I feel like being nice. If the boss doesn't work, take it up with Donkey Show through PM, Instant Message, or PSN. Donkey doesn't owe anything to you, so stop acting so entitled and go learn to make bosses on your own.2008-10-30 22:14:00

Or maybe it's just the "skeleton" of the dragon, meaning, he gives you the dragon, but not really all the mechanics, switches, motors and whatnot. Because that probably involves a few more items that need the proper attatching (read: Wiring and such) and that would be hard to explain... Just my guess

Nice, now you want to make it look like I'm the bad guy. Real smooth bringing it on to the forums outside of our discussion on PSN.

I told you I don't mind helping, but your attitude has been nothing but annoying once you got the game. TBH, I've accommodated to as much as I can, let alone attempted to modify the stage MULTIPLE times so that it would be easier to ace.

As much as copying wasn't a huge deal before, with all the craziness going on I'm not going to sit and watch my works just show up in a bunch of other levels and others taking the credit. Sure you probably weren't going to do that, but this is a byproduct of the reality that copying brings.

If you won my dragon (which you did), more power to you as acing my stages aren't made to be a cakewalk. You deserve it. Also guess what? Don't assume everything will work in every environment. Who says it's supposed to work all the time? In LittleBigPhantasy, it took two days of testing to modify it specifically for that stage outside of the initial build. Edit the wobble bolts and adjust minutely until they fall correctly into place. That's exactly how I had to do it every time I placed the dragon into a new environment.

How am I suppose to learn to build and share content?

Just like how I did... by hours upon hours of trial and error. Watch videos, watch the Discovery Channel, read about pneumatic devices and skeletal structures just like I did. I'm doing this while working a full time job too.

Like I told you over PSN, I don't mind helping you out. Shoot, I went above and beyond what I shouldn't have done if I really wanted to keep my stuff unavailable. I want to guide people to the right path so that they can make stuff not exactly like mine, but in their own way and possibly better!

But your attitude and constant persistence in assuming I owed you my dragon really irritated me and this doesn't make it any better. If you asked for pointers instead of having this insane fixation for my dragon, I would have been glad to help. If you want to take the shortcut, fine by me.

I'm not going to post your PSN messages to me, but if I did I'm sure everyone would feel the same way I do atm so don't come in here attempting to call me out on something I should've/could've/would've done.

Instead it falls apart and the arm pops off which you can not stick back on, the boss also walks backwards.

Well if you don't want to listen to what I mentioned earlier in the PSN I wrote to you, I'll do it again to refresh your memory.

Change all of the dragon's materials into a metal. That should keep it from going all over the place. If it's going backwards, learn how to use the motion detectors on the enemy tools.

One more thing...

How ironic...

Good on you Donkey, I didn't want to say anything really
But that dude is really annoying and lets be honest, most people on here are very level headed and can see what's going on. So don't worry that you may have come across bad. As there is only one person in this thread that has shown his true colours.
And i'm sure everyone can work out who that is !!!!!

Made some good points there Donkey. I can see exactly where you're coming from, although I'll have to ask you to ease down on the language a lil' bit We're getting tight on it these days, being an E+/7+ forum 2008-10-31 00:05:00

Fair enough. I normally don't rant like this, but it really is a shame it had to come down to this. Maybe if he started trying to be creative instead of acting like this should have been handed to him on a silver plate, this wouldn't have happened.

I know for myself I can act "inappropriately" but you have to understand, he would message me asking for new versions of levels every day just so he could ace it. One time he was like... "I'll be back in 6 hrs, hope to see a new level by then."

Wut? Please cry moar.

Second, once again I can only do so much with a maxed out thermometer. And because I had to copy it back from the beta, I couldn't even edit what I wanted without deleting the entire dragon and starting all over from scratch. No way am I gonna go through that again, especially for an old beta level. I edited what I could, made the area after defeating the dragon more navigable and went from there.

I'll make sure to curb my tongue a little next time. Shoot, I was even holding back when I originally posted.

When I was typing that, I could hear Raging Raven scream in the background... "SHOW ME YOUR RAAAAAAAGE!!!"

It all started rather innocent, but I can't predict how copying was going to affect the whole situation. We all want to protect our creations in one way or another and how hard is it to take the time out to study and tinker with stuff? How do you think I was able to get all of that up and running?

Don't worry about it donkey, he's just aggravated cause he isn't the patient type to make a full level from scratch.
Keep up your awesome work, i cant wait to see what else you come up with. Saw your ideas for the mechs and stuff
BTW LOL @

. "I'll be back in 6 hrs, hope to see a new level by then."

Sorry for Ranting Guys but I don't like people who lie especially to a community, maybe this was a huge misunderstanding and yeah it is sad to see something like this happen. But I am going to be honest with you.

Okay first off, I asked you nicely that I could use your dragon. You Said "Yes!"
Nor was I demanding it like you say... I was just really interested in your Art of going about your creature designs.

Then you change your mind about sharing the level.. I was cool with that.
I asked nicely for your dragon creature design and I get no response.
I even asked you how the dragon functions and to go about helping me making something like that... again no response. Seriously if people don't believe me I can copy and paste the screenshots on here.

Then you tell me to Ace the level and it will be mine. Instead after I Ace the level. I get something different. You lied to me about giving me the exact dragon (that is why it has come to this)
--Now if you told me it wasn't anything special and was a skeleton dragon which is busted. Then we probably wouldn't be here right now and still be friends.

Second I asked for pointers and help.
All I got was "Learn how to do this on your own."
I asked for your help many times and even said thank you way too much...
Oh and yes I asked you to change the level cause it was impossible to defeat the dragon without dieing or getting stuck.

You'd get stuck after defeating him and yes.. you did change it. I even said "thank you" for it. (so yeah I can see why you wouldn't have posted these messages on here)
Personally I thought I was helping you by giving you feedback but instead maybe I came across sounding bitter to you or insert bad words here.

You really didn't seem interested in helping me or giving me some clues on how you go about doing what your doing.
Stop making me sound like I am the bad guy here and yeah you don't owe me anything. Just I wish you wouldn't have lied to me and pull me along for this pointless ride.

That is all... and I see you removed me from my friends list, so yeah nuff said.

Won't post anymore about this topic - I am done.
