LittleBig Metal Warriors (Mecha action!!!)

Archive: 15 posts

After watching some youtube vids out there of some japanese made stages, I realized I can probably pull off gameplay similar to this style.

Cybernator/Assault Suits Valken and Metal Warriors were two of my most favorite action games out there during the SNES era and I still think not many games in this era can claim their awesomeness. I'm hoping to reach back into history and grab even just a little bit of their great gameplay and action.

Granted it will be limited, I'm going to try tons of possibilities which would allow not only free movement with your mecha, but hopefully at least front/back shooting (possibly 8 way) and close range combat.

Of course epic boss battles will be mandatory and expect to see this as a 2-3 part saga.

Wish me luck! :hero:

Lemme guess...a mecha-dragon boss! lol

Good luck designing all the switches on the mech. I sure it'll be loads of fun yelling "Why arn't you doing what I want you to do!?!" at the tv. That's what I do.

Haha. I saw something in a youtube that should at least give you full control of movement. I think this is gonna work and it's a lot easier than you think.

As for the boss, no more dragons. I'm spent on them. :hero:

For those who havn't already checked out "Cybernator" which actually is a part of the Assault Suit Leynos Series) Then the Sequel came out for the Sega Saturn - and finally Cybernator for the Snes.
Which is one of my favorite Action Games of all time.
The first of the series was on the Sega Genesis Called "Target Earth". It was way ahead of its time, if you care to play it: get a sege genesis emulator and download a rom of it (highly recommend it) if your wanting to make mech levels.

That looks awesome! =D

Does it work.move/operate as you want it to?

Also, if I may ask...Just tell me what goes through your mind when you're creating, and if creating in this game comes naturally? Is it really as easy as people say it is?

1) Almost. The balancing of the thrusters every time I added a new part was the hardest thing about designing. I had to go for a smaller form factor as well because having a giant mecha flying around in what I was planning to do is not going to work as well.

2) Ehhh, really I just come up with an idea, cross-reference some stuff on the internet or art books that are similar, and go from there. Normally when I draw/graphic design/photoshop, I kinda just go with what's natural and not really plan ahead. It's somewhat of a step by step process that ends up becoming into something that might be too much for me to chew. If I do plan, I end up coming up with stuff like "The Azure Palace" but tbh, the prior design I used only contributed to about 10-15% of the actual level.

But you have a good point. Sometimes creating definitely comes naturally to others better. I really can't say for sure that's how I am because it takes a lot of time and effort on my part to make some of this stuff come to light, but with all the time I've had with the game since the beta, it has definitely made it extremely easier to manipulate the creator tools the way I want to.

From my experience, the creation tools themselves are rather easy until you start moving onto complex movements and functions. Sure it might take a long time, but most of the time ideas can come to fruition assuming you keep at it and look for some guidance here and there. I think I'm at the point where I can look at someone's level and go... yeah I know how they did that.

It's tough, but not impossible. My own mech uses two legs for motion. Given, they are reverse-joint legs, but the principles are the same

Edit: The really tough part was getting the thing to be able to walk forward OR backward at will.

EDIT: Er... Metal Warriors.
