Camera Tilting

Archive: 31 posts

First I have to say I searched and couldn't find anything about this so if it is out there somewhere please give me a link to redirect me!

I have heard that the cameras (Regular Cameras Not the Cut-Scene Ones) zoom out more, but is it possible to tilt the camera more so that you get a complete side view or make the camera look like its viewing straight up?

I just want to know in case a future project needs a better camera angle. Thanks in advance!

By combining movie and game cameras you can turn it pretty far, I managed to rotate it so the camera was looking at the back of the level, like it was behind the level. It was scary. Everything in LBP is hollow 2010-10-30 16:44:00

Nope, the camera tilting is the same as LBP1.

One thing to note, though, is that in Create Mode you can zoom out so far you can see the whole level at once. (not the movie/game camera zoom, just when your hovering around)

EDIT: @ARD, lolwut?

What do you mean by "combining" the cameras, how is this done?

You did!? Agh I have to do this!

Also, it's all hollow because it optimizes the game, makes better loading times, and better frame rate.

It was a while ago, and they may have patched it, but basically you can have one game camera and one movie camera active at the same time. What I did was put one of each, and tweak them both to be rotated as far as possible in the same direction.

I'm pretty sur that is incorrect

And if this were patched would it just be regular camera tilting?

Edit: Seems like flamingemu just answered that!

Everything in LBP is hollow

does not suprise me... why fill in everythings backside when you can't see it anyway?

You can now bank the camera (roll it to the side) and you can set a camera to local space which means that when the camera object banks, your viewpoint will bank as well.

In my experiments, I've found that you can't really combine camera angles to get deeper into the screen: I managed to get it so that while I was tweaking the camera I was looking pretty much straight along the level (like from sackboy's pov) but when I actually dropped out of hover mode to preview it, it just gave me a regular angle.

The difference isn't exactly groundbreaking...

The method I said before was wrong
(all those cameras are set to use local space or whatever it's called)

EDIT: now that I think about it I need to try putting a camera on the back of the object while the camera's like that

EDIT 2: I was right (for once)! Putting a camera on the back does let you see behind everything! Like all the way around
But the in-game image was really screwey so I'll get a better one.

EDIT 3: Just done a video which shows how to achieve this effect, so I'll upload that asap

hey, alec, this is AWESOME!
but, im trying do the same thing (local space, lots of cameras, side of object) and it didnt work
the vision just tilt VERY fast to the left, then return, tilting only a little bit
what i do? o.o

EDIT:
Hm, it works when im tweaking it...
well, there's a way to it work without tweaking the camera position?

Yeah, I forgot to mention I haven't figured out how to get it to stay like that apart from when you're editing it.
Just exporting the video that shows how to see behind the level...

Now if only we could get the cameras to stay like that, we could be playing some third person games 2010-10-30 20:37:00

That would be amazing

And if only someone found a glitch to allow sackboy/sackbots to roam around in the already "3D layer Glitch"
Actually isn't the already a glitch to allow sackbots to do that?

I haven't tried it, but AFAIK the sackbots can walk around in the extra layers but it's glitchy, and they can't move between the glitch layers. Or something.

This glitch is great, but we need to get it to work with movie cameras! :tophat:

I got pictures of FPS paintinator and stuff:

Same, I've tried multiple ways. I got kinda close by attaching the camera to a sackbot I was controlling. When I started the level up, it seemed to work, then it just messed up.

Sadly I think Mm specifically programmed it not to work. I hope a breakthrough is found though, cuz generally once a glitch is implemented, even if Mm patches the way to make it, they usually don't take away the already glitched things. If somebody pulls it off, the doors will be open to all kinds of fun stuff: 3rd person racers/shooters (instead of top-down) and, as ARD said, Crash Bandicoot style games.2010-10-31 18:37:00

Yeah but since it's a beta :/
I mean there's a decent chance we'll be able to get our beta levels into the retail game somehow but backwards compatability (as in LBP2 beta to LBP2 retail) won't be a priority so they'd have no reason to leave it in, right?

Ach, who cares. We need to get this to work.
