I would try going into safe mode and doing a full scan. Do you have the latest and most current definitions? Something else is you should have a registry blocker, and a pop up blocker as well as an anti-virus program.

Sometimes closing the window is like saying OK. They are a malicious site afterall.. Your best best is hitting Alt F4 and if that doesn't close it down, bring up the Task Manager and kill off the process.

Did you try booting up in safe mode like I suggested? This would allow you to scan and hopefully fix your issue.2010-10-30 14:57:00

Here try this
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

It's a free virus protection software, I used to have 2 pop ups when I'd start up my computer saying to accept the download; I hit cancel every time. Once I downloaded that and did the virus scan, it took away the virus, so yeah, you might wanna try that.

lavasoft is good stuff. I would try that and see what happens. I just purchased their Total Security Package as I always like their Ad Aware package.

If that does not work, iIf you can figure out the name of what is running.. there is usually documentation on the internet that help you remove it all. Basically you have a trojan of sorts that wants you to purchase their package. DON'T!! It won't work and in some cases, your credit card info will be used to buy other stuff without your knowledge. Mostly a scam and sorry it has hit your system.

I am amazed that malwarebytes didn't help unless you don't have a recent version. http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Good luck!

If it's not being picked up by a virus scanner, then it gets kinda tricky. You could try a different virus scanner first of all.

If that fails, then you may have to do it the hard way, which involves looking through the process list, identifying suspicious processes, and determine how they're being started, which is usually by a registry key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run.

If you're not comfortable with that, and all else fails, just back up anything you want to keep onto an external drive, and reformat/reinstall the OS.

Ugh, another Anti-Virus spoofware. I had to deal with Anti-Virus 2009 in the past, and couldn't figure out what was dropping the files. Eventually had to wipe the HDD. I do wish you luck though, using Ad-Aware, as well as Pocket Killbox, can possibly help. However, Pocket Killbox requires knowledge of the registry, and if you don't know much about it, you shouldn't use it. Ad-Aware once killed an annoying Virtumonde infection I had by deleting all the files it found upon very early startup, before literally any Windows services had even started.2010-11-04 13:14:00

Dont forget, the first thing you should do in that case is turn off the internet as it can be a spyware, but seeing as its only showing ads its probably an adware (I hate those!!), also I do strongly recommend you to change your anti-virus ASAP, take your moms files out in a flash drive in safe mode to a computer with a very good anti-virus, then plug it into that computer on safe-mode and scan the flash drive to ensure that the virus didn't passed to your moms files (Its the best way I know of how to rescue the data), and as suggested by the nice people below, use malwarebytes or ad aware to get rid of whatever is screwing up your pc.2010-11-04 18:13:00

Ad-Aware is a solid first salvo against this problem.

As a last, but guaranteed resort, you could always use a Linux Live CD or safe mode or similar to transfer your important data, and then wipe the drive and install a fresh copy of Windows.

But the best protection is abstinence, next time maybe you don't download unknown files from adult websites?
