So....about Halloween....

Archive: 17 posts

Ok i'm going to say this right now, this thread is going to have a bit of involvement with Religion, I don't intend it to be in the bad way, i'm not saying anything bad about people's beliefs and views and I don't want this to get ugly, I just wanted to see if anyone else thinks the same as me about Halloween.

Whenever Halloween comes up I always think that it is a day where people turn into humongous hypocrites, because they say that the devil is bad and don't take candy from strangers and blah blah blah, and on this day, this one day, they allow their kids to dress up as devils, demons and witches and allow their kids to accept candy from random strangers, though most are probably known neighbors. So, has anyone else thought that?

Also I didn't really want to point fingers at religions.....

I think it's just silly fun and I would never wear an evil costume.

But it really is one of the weirdest holidays celebrated by a large majority...

Where does the tradition of Halloween actually come from? I know it's actually "All Hallow's Eve", but, yeah.
It just seems a bit odd. What's so special about the 31st October?

All Saint's Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween). It's a Pagan holiday or something

All Hallow's Eve is the eve of All Saint's Day (All hallow's = All Saints). Basically, November 1st is the day of every Saint because people got tired of all the Saint holidays way back in the medieval era. So they lumped them all together. As for the timing, probably something so that the pagans would become Christian and still have their drunken ceremonies. Just like Christmas. As for why the day before the day of Saints is the day of evil... Maybe contrast? I unno.

... wasn't I running? /runs faster

It's not All Saints Day, it's Samhain. "Summers End"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samhain

"The Gaelic festival became associated with the Christian All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, and has hugely influenced the secular customs now connected with Halloween, a name first attested in the 16th century as a Scottish shortening of the fuller All-Hallows-Even.[9] Samhain continues to be celebrated as a religious festival by some Neopagans."

Pretty much, Halloween is a holiday for people who have no idea of what the day is about or how it originated, used as a way to sell superficial costumes and candy. Or, in the case of people 16+, sexual costumes and alchohol. But we all know that people that young don't drink that, right?

Wrong wrong wrong...
You all are wrong about what Hollowin is and how it originated.

Some hundreads of years ago, on October 31st was when the Hollows http://gordon-myers.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/adjuchas.jpg batled the Soul Reapers http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c3/Bleach_lieutenants.jpg and won over the the land of Hueco Mundo.

Its called "All Hollows eve" because its when they Gathered all Hollows at once http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn78/EvilHollow/e148-44.jpg and attacked! http://i39.servimg.com/u/f39/13/49/82/23/gillia10.jpg

And that united attack was that which granted them the win over the battle of Hollow's eve.

Hollows have random shapes of different monsters, that's why kids dress as monsters during Hollowin, and Hollows eat soul reapers, and to them is like candy, which is why the tradition of going from house to house asking for candy was made.

And that my friends, its the stopry behind Hollowin/ All Hollows Eve.
(I even illustrated it to make it clearer! )

Any questions?

We don't really celebrate Halloween in Australia, some people try to but no-one gives them anything. It's really just an excuse to have a party and dress up. Much better idea in my opinion.2010-10-30 03:26:00

Let's leave off the condescending comments toward religion. It's not a taboo subject, but try to be sensitive and respectful of others' beliefs.2010-10-30 06:25:00
