Hovering material

Ok.. i just got this awesome idea, that there could be a material that had some kind of... field around it, that is editable, as far as strength, and how big it is, that make's it hover above the ground. that would be awesome, and maybe make it so that it is able to be toggled on and off by a switch. that would be cool! you know what i mean?2010-10-29 23:31:00

i'm thinking of like, a material that would do it on it's own, which would cut down on logic, plus, there could be some other uses for it, like reversing the polarity, and making it attracted to objects, like a vacuum, which would be pretty awesome too... like, it hovers, and you don't have to use logic to make it do so, i think that would be cool, and i would use it like a madman.2010-10-30 00:15:00

hmmmm..... fine, but i still think it would be cool to have. i know it is possible through logic... BUT I HATE LOGIC! i think it would be interesting to have materials such as this to save me the hassle of trying to figure out how to make the logic make the object do what i want it to do.2010-10-30 00:38:00

Yes, but that's what makes LBP so fun. Nothing is done for you.

If Mm released a material like this, all you would see would be "Hoverboard RAMP" levels spring up everywhere. Not giving out really specific tools like this forces people to come up with their own solutions, all of which are different and therefore much more interesting.

Maybe that would happen... but i was thinking more along the lines of hovercar, of making hovering objects for sackboy to use his grappling hook on. that would be cool. expecially if since i could make sackboy swing back and forth, to make the material move while floating, and use it to cross a gap, without jump pads, or whatever, or cross gaps of dangeous material... i would use the heck out of it. and, i don't really think that would be all that popular. because there isn't much variability with HOVERBOARD RAMP, but, that would be a cool idea, until it starts to become a spammer type level.2010-10-30 01:17:00

That's not really helping your point as on why to make this an actual thing m8. :S

well.. i kinda would like to use that material to DO just that. make whatever i want. but how difficult is it to make the material i just wished for in beta, it has to float, be moveable without controllinatior, and be adjustable in how much it floats, int the ways i mentioned above, do it, take some pictures, and maybe some videos. please.2010-10-30 01:51:00

It is horribly easy to make material that is anti-gravity. Just stick on an anti-gravity material tweaker, dial in what percentage to suit your needs and what percentage of dampening you want and you are done. If you want it grabbable, just add a material tweaker and tell it to be grabby. Two things to add and the material can be pretty much anything you want.2010-10-30 02:09:00

And with a few more minutes, and a tiny bit more logic.... you could make the material go from anti-gravity.... to floaty..... to BOUNCY!!!!! And then make it drop like a rock and KILL YOU!

The possibilities are endless....

Seriously, I agree with all the above - Media Molecule have given us all the basic building blocks to build just about anything at this point. Even if you can't figure it out yourself, have someone decent in logic throw a few switches on a piece of material and send you an object.

Don't be so disheartened.

I think the problem is you don't get our point. It takes VERY little if anything to make almost any material do what you want. A bit like asking for a material that is on fire when you can simply make any material on fire. Your idea is simply redundant. In a way, what you want already exists. It's not that we don't like the idea of something being anti gravity.. that is why Mm gave us this nifty little control thingy to do just that.

You could say the same about LBP1 and LBP2, MM is not including specific tools just to make things interesting... they simple not invented them yet and most of the tools included in LBP2 is mostly suggested by as (LBP Community) by tring to achive it with current tools. As i know MM motive is to make easy tools to easier creating for everyone, not forcing people to work abound, people do that only for there own choose, this is why MM always is saying that they are supriced what people doing with there game . They would be happy if everyone could do "Hoverboard RAMP"
