Video Recording and Taking Photos in LBP

Archive: 6 posts

Hey guys

Probably a bit of a noob question but I was just wondering how people are recording videos and taking pictures in LBP and sticking them on the net. I couldn't find any info here (I'm sure there is) but thought I'd just ask just in case someone has a real obvious answer.

Cheers

Well pictures wise they take it find the pic import it to HDD and import that on a memory stick onto the computer and upload.
Video wise they may be using a capture card (which records the screen only) HD or SD. However if you want a capture card they are quite expensive.

Yes, capture cards are pretty expensive indeed, but they do give the best quality out there. If your going to upload lots of videos then it might be worth the expense, but there are cheaper ways. Some people do it with proper video cameras as well, but I don't think the quality is quite as good (though I think it's close?)

I don't have a computer or the money to spend on a capture card, so for now... I do it the ghetto method. I have a cheap little digital photo camera that also takes video (limited to about 10 minutes with my current sd card size. I literally throw it on a tripod, dim the lights, point it at the tb, and hit record. It ain't pretty, but for now it's enough to get my point across.

I suppose you need to ask yourself for what reasons are you recording, how good the quality has to be, and how often are you going to record? That should tell you what direction to go in right there.

I've got a capture card which seems fine actually - although up to now I've only been videos that aren't as good quality - but that's my fault for converting in the default not so good format, rather than making it into a higher quality format. I got it for about ?30 I think, from Amazon.2010-10-29 22:22:00

Some video cameras will allow you to convert the analogue (composite) video signal from the PS3 to a digital video signal that you can import into your computer. Both of my cameras will do this (Sony PC-120E and a Canon XH-A1). Check your camera's instruction manual to see if it can do this. Look for "Using the camera to record composite video", probably in the advanced section of the manual. You can either record directly using a movie editing program on your computer, or record onto digital video tape and import into your computer later.

I use this method and get great results at no extra cost - the video cameras were bought for shooting live video, so this feature has been a very useful bonus.

The disadvantage of this method is that you can only record in standard definition, but if you use PAL equipment you get 576 lines - only 150 lines less than LBP HD (which is 720).
