If your talking about other great levels then I would go for the brilliant 'real 3D city' (also known as Hakiwonika something like that).
It is incredibly detailed and it all fits into the theme.

thanks for that. I'll try that level. I meant the MM-favorites page. When you use the search function on LBP you see a section MM-Favorites, which are Favorite levels of Media Molecule I guess. I saw it the first time yesterday. Seems pretty new to me.2010-10-29 10:02:00

The only updated MM level, to my knowledge, was the Introduction level, and they did so they could put their new worker's face inside, which was johnee.2010-10-29 21:44:00

is this favorites of the past 2 years, or recent picks intended to be an ongoing feature that segues into the picks in LBP2?

'bout time.

I am going to have to check out these new features next time i am at my dads they look pretty cool. i just wish they would have made it so taht i could organize my costumes too. that would be helpful. and maybe a larger community objects section in the goodies bag spot.2010-10-30 00:52:00

Vile Anchorage is there so those MM picks are up to date. It's just that for a start they did put favorites from the beginning of LBP1 until today.

Also, looks like I am not worthy! I don't have any level in their picks!

We'll, I don't have it either, but I think it's great enough that I've at least made the LBPC Spotlight.

MM Picks is old really but it was only a section in there blog (and theres also there coments on levels):

http://www.mediamolecule.com/community/mmpicks/

Now with LBP2 have that integrated they decided to integrate it with LBP1 too, and throw levels that was mmpicked in the past

Sorry, but due to the fact that the poster is a troll, this comment will be ignored.

*cough*

Anyways...

It's about darn time they used the infomoon/news section for something useful, rather than just leaving to sit rot for a year and a half. Seriously, i'm not impressed by the "community management" that MM/Sony had going on there,

I've a good mind to post a sh*t in a box to Mm headquarters for picking my Space Assassins level. Ever since it went up there I've had nothing but abuse from the general community. Sure it's had several thousand plays since it was picked, but that's no recompence for the humiliation of countless noob kids calling me queer, calling me a sicko, or wishing me dead every day. I've never had to good grief anyone in my time with lbp until last week when I had to use the grief function 5 or 6 times in one day. And that only covered the messages/comments which were obscenely abusive, ignoring hundreds of others that were simply accusing me of being an "idiot" or stating "you suck" because they couldn't figure out how to progress in the level.

I really don't know what Mm were thinking when they picked an Ungreth level, since my creations are clearly aimed at a niche audience and were never designed to appeal to the bomb survival obsessed mainstream. Ungreth is a creature who's natural habitat is a shadowy place where he can lurk in obscurity and I don't appreciate being exposed to the open community in this way. Once LBP2 is released, all future levels I build will remain forever locked and only accessible anyone on my friends list who would like me to send them a key.

You're not wrong there mate. You wouldn't believe the number of kids who've told me that I need to change the level just to make it easier for them to complete without having to dust the cobwebs from their braincells. Apparently because they "don't know what to do", that makes me the idiot. One kid actually said this...

"First rule of game design....you must always tell the player what they need to do next"

Oh yeah right, well why don't you go tell the makers of Monkey Island or Super Metroid that you little...:kz:

Yeah, it's really sad about all the flame comments cluttering you Space Assasins level. I left a friendly comment on your level to try to cheer you up dude. I see how it really hit you hard, but the only thing I have to say is that not to worry about it. We all here know your level and respect your direction of gameplay and outlay. I really think you should not concentrate on the negative aspects of being a MM pick because all the spam your getting means nothing unless you allow it to.2010-11-10 01:02:00

but Super Metroid IS always telling where to go next. It tells me by its level design...

I don't want to discuss this at length since the thread's about Mm picks. However...I would imagine that most intelligent gamers upon meeting a boss who can't be killed with gunfire would look at the conspicuously large bell hanging above his head and something would mentally click. Especially since the camera actually pans up to the bell as the player attempts to shoot the boss. So, the level design in Space Assassins does tell you what to do next....it just doesn't flash a neon sign in your face instructing "shoot this thing right here", which seems to be what these kids want. Another case in point...despite a speech bubble stating "activate console to accept mission briefing", which is one of the few places in the level where I do give explicit instructions, many people still couldn't even figure out how to start the mission. Go figure.

TBH, I worry at the general intellect of kids these days, and I have to wonder if the government has been putting IQ inhibiting drugs into the nation's water supply. Put it this way...my 5 year old daughter played Space Assassins and aside from needing help to solve the ordered input switch puzzle, she completed the rest of the level without any assistance from me. Nuff said.

Anyhow, focusing on this level will only derail the thread folks. I've already put in my two cents on how I feel about being an Mm pick, so let's hear from the other LBPC creators who also got their levels chosen.

I also got a bunch of hate on my level "Vile Anchorage." Getting MM Picked was just like getting on cool page #1, it gives you tons of traffic, many from people who are angry that so many people are playing your level and that no one is playing theirs.

So you got to expect some hate and jealousy....sad in a game that's supposed to be about fun, sharing and creativity.

Dude, your level Vile Anchorage was great. I played it the other night and thought the level design/ gameplay was perfect.

observation and trying different things doesn't seem to come naturally to lbp players at large. i don't think the peanut gallery is really talking about intuitive design and progressively training the player to look for certain things in the environment, but probably just wants a big arrow pointing the way all the time, R1 signs, visible switches, and a word baloon that takes all the guess work out completely. basically a complete compromise of visual integrity and immersion.

honestly, i think they only know how to jump, grab, swing, time their movements, and avoid getting killed at all from being forced to learn decades old, basic 2d platforming skills for the very first time in LBP's story mode. these are the same players that don't understand why they can't open the first door in a 2x coop level by themselves, and organically integrated environmental puzzles are excellent design aesthetically and conceptually, but totally outside their frame of reference.

i feel your pain... i've been called everything from a brainwashing bible basher to a terrorist. i know there's plenty of stuff in my puzzlers i could redo now and whatnot, to make things flow better, but hey, i'm just a regular guy. rangerzero told me once before, and he's right... we don't owe anyone anything.

This behavior is normal guys. I hope you will never worry about it.
This game sometimes makes us almost believe that everybody can play this game without problems/difficulty and that everybody can create stuff (good stuff).

The harsh reality we have to understand is that MOST people can't create for snap and MOST people aren't good with difficulty in a videogame. In short, the crap stuff published and the bad comments on your levels will ALWAYS be there and it won't get better with LBP2.

All the work you put in and you get such a great regocnition, I think that makes up for all the hate comments in the world.

And besides, you're probably getting slagged off by an insecure 7 year old. so I wouldn't take it personally.

Yes, Haters speak louder then the Lovers. For every 1 hater you probably have 30 or 40 that love your levels. So keep in mind that Haters will always be louder. The lovers just don't speak up much.2010-11-11 18:44:00

Personally I'd rather not be put in a position where I'm made an open target for these kids to abuse. If I wanted that I'd become a teacher. Until Mm picked my level, I was only recognised here at lbpc where the majority of posters are folk with talent, intelligence, maturity and respect for others. That's always suited me just fine, and I have never wanted to go "mainstream". Now I'm also recognised by thousands of spiteful little bedwetters who seem intent on imposing their inadequacies and frustrations upon me. I feel that Mm made a grave error of judgement picking Space Assassins. It's like taking a party of kids to the cinema, all hyped up to watch Toy Story, then exposing them to a screening of the latest David Lynch movie. Bad idea.

There's plenty of hate to go around out there even without a MM pick (although your right about the added exposure and jealousy.)

I had a lovely comment on Fire and Ice the other day that said not only were my level "not the coolest" but also that "I suk". Upon further investigation the kid that posted it is most certainly expressing frustration that his stuff doesn't have the plays he wants. I feel sorry for him but am saddened that people can't seem to behave civilly, even in a game.

People like this are common on LBP
Im not that famous but I also had troubles with those people.
In my Comment boxes are people who spam that my level is copied and not made by me. Which is wrong!
This is the worst kind of comment you can get, imo. People who read the comments think they are right... join their party and spam that too.
This is so demotivating... beeing compared with Stephanie ravens, lol
