Live Record

Archive: 13 posts

There should be a tool or something that lets the sackbot's actions be recorded live in play mode.
Then we would be able to make things like this:

Ooh, we could make something new and original!

I would use emitted tags, as probably would shadowriver too.

Actually such function would be useful for original things, issue is how to implement it in simple way (as MM loudly prefers)

Uhm... that's what I meant... see the post above my earlier post, about SMG2's cosmic clone levels...

you know, there's a ton of stuff we could copy... from Braid's world 5 to... let's say, SMG2's cosmic clone levels. A ton of stuff between.

now I'm thinking with sequencers.

Couldn't you record the sackbots behaviour normally and then when you get to a certain point a sensor switch could activate the recording?2010-10-28 18:47:00

I suggested this in the beta forums not so long ago, I can't really see it being in the full game this close to release but I'm hopeful for some DLC/update later on with this in it. 2010-10-28 19:19:00

Oh man, if I had the beta, I would be ALL OVER trying to make this.

It's definitely possible. Maybe not 100%, but it is definitely within the realm of feasibility. *ponder ponder ponder*

I have a crude abd not-so-practical idea for it... I'll try to bother to make a prototype.2010-10-30 09:49:00

You better publish your level that you are working on first

I figure it could be done by something like...

Have an invisible controllinator set to wirelessly be controlled by nearest player, then have it follow the player at max speed and accel. From there you could take snapshots of the player's actions at regular intervals by emitting blocks in a stack via a timer and some and gates. It would log everytime a button is activated and when it is released.

After that, have a block that will ascend parallel to your little tower of keyframes and have that with logic that will directly stimulate the controllinator of the sackbot. The logic will be something like :

(Block has LEFT STICK +100%) Set (using preferred method, eg. Counter of 1) Sackbot's left stick input to +100% ... (some time goes by) ... (Block has LEFT STICK <= 0%) (Reset mechanism to reset Sackbot's Left stick input)

Only problems are : Snapshots have a resolution of 0.1s , you can only emit so many blocks until you hit the level boundaries. This setup also may or may not be thermo intensive.

Edit I just realized you don't have to emit empty blocks.... I forgot for a moment that materials can float So you can take snapshots in real time of the player actions.
