Rock Band 3 - who's getting it?

Archive: 38 posts

I'm planning on picking it up as I've had a lot of fun with RB2.

Hoping a few people here from LBPC will get it so I'll have friends to play with.

I'm thinking that the pro guitar is way outta my league for now. Anyone planning on going for that?

I'll definitely be getting it; It'll probably be some time next year though.

We had Guitar Hero: LoR & World Tour at Uni, and they were great fun! However, The rate that Activision brings out a new iteration and the lack of DLC, compared with the awesomeness of The Beatles Rock Band, has sealed my "defection" to Harmonix's side.

Plus, I can't wait for The Doors DLC. (http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/112/1129902p1.html)

Seems to be some pretty awesome songs in the game ! I've never played rockband (only GH), but it looks like a lot of fun though, so I might get it! 2010-10-25 20:44:00

I'm probably going to get it, and the Pro Guitar, or whatever they call it. I'm a guitarist and I feel like it would not only make me a better guitar player, but have lots of fun along the way.2010-10-25 23:58:00

I'm still miffed at Harmonix for disowning the Beatles Rock Band, but I'll definitely be getting it. 'Imagine' is enough reason... but there's also 'I Can See For Miles', '24 or 6 to 4' (that is going to be one FUN guitar solo), and 'Bohemian Rhapsody' (My god, the HARMONIES!). Of course, I'll nonetheless discover other fine songs and bands within the setlist (That's how I started to get into Rush).2010-10-26 00:03:00

Probably around ?150. That's with the standard guitar, not the one with the strings. The Keyboard is about ?60 on its own.

IGN's review is out, by the way:

I got the game, it's brilliant. Of course, there's sopme glaring mistakes... Like Morgana pointed out, no crowd sing-along (How is it humanly possible to not sing along to Imagine!?!?!). I also found the charting for "I Can See For Miles" extremely disappointing (You're stuck on the rhythm guitar parts), so much I quit my first play-through of it. The bodily proportions in the character creator are also messed up - what's worse is, you're pretty much stuck with one same body type. Odd, consider you have like 200 different options up in the facial area.

Nonetheless, this is indeed the best game in the Rock Band series. Players can drop in and drop out, and keyboard sounds fun, although I haven't played it. Obviously, Pro Guitar is an option which has validity, and if i ever decide to, I'll get one of those real pro guitar controllers and learn how to play some bass or something. It has a ton of new features and customization options which make even just scrolling around the menus really fun. And the setlist, of course, is pure golden (As mentioned above, Imagine!!!).

Rock Band 3 has the Astrosimi Seal Of Approval.

I'm gonna probably ask for this for Christmas.

I'm thinking of asking for either...

1. Just the disc and a pro guitar. (Already have RB2 guitar and a USB mic.)
2. Just the disc and drums. (I broke my RB2 drums... They expect so much on expert mode, then the foot pedal snaps in half.)
3. Just the disc and keyboard.

I dunno.

How much is the pro guitar again?

I think I saw it listed for $149.99 on Best Buy's website.

So other than a few nitpicks about menu navigation that drive me nuts, my only other complaint so far is the gigantic leap of difficulty between Hard and Expert mode on some tracks. It feels a lot harder than RB2 for a lot of songs and stuff like Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne are rediculously easy in Hard Mode but I fail out after 21% in Expert? Seems a little more difficulty in Hard or less insane difficulty in Expert may have been a better idea - that's just my opinion.

Well you may as well... You'd be ebtter spending the money on a decent first guitar and amp, rather than kidding yourself that it will be a great guitar outside of RB as well if you get RB. Guitar pro does effectively the same thing anyway, but you can grab the tabs off the internet... infact tuxGuitar does the same thing to, and it's free. And so are the tabs. And it's much more fun playing actual guitar.

Not that i'm saying you shouldn't buy RB... But if your really wanna start playing guitar, just buy a proper guitar...

Indeed. I've played guitar since about year 3 or something (though these days it's more pick up and play for something to do more than improving my skill lol) and I actually thought the guitar on rock band was great because it wasn't like playing a guitar, it was just a great way of doing a rhythm game. I had rock band for the fun music game, and my actual guitar for playing properly. Not really interested in attempting to play a game trying to do a real guitar where it's difficult to slide, impossible to bend etc.2010-10-31 19:57:00

For people just wanting to have fun, and experience, in some shape or form, what it is like to play an instrument, it's great. What is stupid is the kids who think they are better than real guitarists because they can play expert mode... As a game it's fun, it's the people who think it makes them musically talented that make a lot of guitarists dislike the games...

So...is this game playable w/out instruments, and with the controller alone, and is it as fun?
Well obviously not "as fun" otherwise no one would buy the instrument thingies, but I mean, is it still fun to play w/out the instruments or is it "plain"?

I've been thinking of buying one of these "Music Games" (GH/ RB/ etc.) but I either buy the game, or I buy the not-so cost efficient instruments.

I can't realy "afford" both, so I was just wondering if its worth it even w/out the instruments?

Also:

3. Just the disc and keyboard.
So that means this game plays with the keyboard...?
Anyone mind explaining? XD

Oh, and @Alec, please, this thread is to look for people who may buy the game to find people to play with, not to brag you're "A real musician," or whatnot, so please, could you keep it on topic?

I don't think you can play RB3 with just a controller. I'm not sure though, but it wasn't in RB1 or 2. It's in Guitar Hero, (Not sure about the newer ones but yeah) and it's actually pretty fun, but it gets really annoying having to tap the buttons really fast when you're playing a fast part.

Oh, and the keyboard I meant is the new keyboard instrument. (Piano thingie.)

Wait what? D:

X and C are right beside each other on the keyboard.

You need some instrument to play it Silverleon. You can play:

Drums
Sing
Guitar
Bass
Keyboard

I like the guitar myself but the keyboard is growing on me. The peripherals are a little expensive. I think the keyboard was $80 but if you get RockBand2 as a kit you get the guitar, mic, and drums for around $100 plus for another $10 you can export all the songs from RB2 into RB3.

When you buy a sword and become an assassin, or deploy in a warzone we can talk about not playing music games.

It's about the fantasy and fun. Besides pushing buttons is infinitely easier than learning an instrument especially for the non-musically gifted.

Alex, not Alec. And i wasn't bragging that i am, as you put it, a 'real' musician. I simply said not to expect the same experience from a game. It was on topic, given that they are making a Squier guitar that will work with the game, hence me saying that if you are going to buy that you may as well not bother and get a decent guitar + amp instead, and just learn normally.

The instruments are so ridiculously overpriced... My friends want to get it when the prices for the keyboard go down (if they go down?) ... and you actually have to pay another $10 to export your RB2 songs which you already paid for ? Nice... :/

I don't know, the game looks fun so... eventually.

I can play guitar and sing in real life, but I do like to play RockBand from time to time.

It is VERY expensive to transfer songs and stuff, though. Rockband 3's "pro" instruments are where I draw the line .. I'm not spendin' 80 bucks for a controller.

Oh well, maybe if I find them on the Flea Market or a Garage sale on a lower price I ma be able to, but I doubt iy otherwise.
(Not to mention I have really no space to place a drumkit or most of that stuff, so I dunno how much it'd last lying around. )

You picked up very wrong examples.
It's hurting other people against being able to learn something that can enable you to express your feeling in an artistic way.
And, tip, music like every form of art is a gift we all have, just we have to do some practice and will to take it out.
Simpler things are not the most rewarding.
Anyway, everyone is up to its choice, and should relax to jokes.

How about, go build real stuff instead of playing LBP "Mr. Artist?"

(Srry m8, but again, this thread is to get people to play a game with, not for people to rant why they dislike these kinds of games... :/ )

Only one level from me out there I'm actually practicing with LEGOs. No problem Leon, , I was saying my idea but joking, but everytime I say something and Morgana can be around she answers to me like I'm trying to kill her.
Then when I feel it goes personal I can't stay silent. Anyway I'll learn to avoid Morgana's threads, my bad...sorry guys for messing your thread

Oh Omega - I wasn't trying to be mean. I just wanted to make the point that games are games and aren't reality and if pretending to be a rock star make people happy why do other people have to be all negative about it. Just don't buy it or play it yourself and let the people who want to play it.2010-11-02 16:03:00

I'll be picking this up, probably next week! And just because you like to play rhythm games doesn't mean you can't play real instruments. I play the violin. As awesome as playing a real instrument is, you don't get unison bonuses while playing along in the orchestra with friends... 2010-11-02 16:39:00

How is it hurting other people? It's just a game dude, relax.

I play the real guitar, and I play Rock Band. It's the fact that you can sit at home and go online and play with an entire band that is awesome, the fact that you can sit there and pretty much play thousands (Rock Band has over 2000 songs in the game, including DLC of course) of songs without the necessary time required to learn it.

And that's IF there is a tab for the song, I use plenty of websites for tabs like Ultimate-guitar.com and half of the songs on Rock Band are either never tabbed, or can't be tabbed to perfection, why? It's either too difficult to hear the notes being played or no one wants to bother tabbing Through The Fire and Flames, etc...

Which is where the "musically gifted" come along, I don't agree everyone has the gift of music, some have it, some have to practice hours upon hours a day to learn one song, while others can hear the song once or twice and play the song. I know a pianist in my band that has to hear a song ONCE, and he will know exactly how to play it.

Just like FPS games, or LBP, Music Genre games are another form of entertainment. They don't require the time, and skill required to play a song, you just need to know how to hit buttons.

Not trying to sound rude either, but this whole "play a real instrument" thing is getting out of hand.

EDIT: I read over my own post and felt it was a bit harsh, again Omega I barely know you I barely even post on this site anymore, and this wasn't directed at you or anyone, it's just something I feel needs to be out there because like I said this "play a real instrument" is just becoming a nuisance, and I know you were joking in your post so don't take this the wrong way.
