Giving Items and costumes custom "tags"

Archive: 13 posts

I don't really publish much. Most of the time I'll see something cool in somebody's level and try to re-create it or modify it in some way. Also I am really into complicated logic and often I decide to create some insane contraptions that do random things and generally trick my freinds into dying in more and more complicated ways. This means I have all sorts of bits of logic and random objects hearted in my popit. My popit has become cluttered and I can't really say that the objects and stickers in there are easy to access anymore. What I propose is a way to "tag" objects, stickers, and costumes that you heart so that when you go into your popit they are organised by what you say as opposed to wether or not they are a costume or sticker. I really hope MM puts this in as it will make creating things so much easier! 2010-10-25 17:06:00

i agree. i use a lot of saved objects for my copy pasta creation style, and being able to categorize my captured objects would make my life a ton easier.2010-10-25 17:49:00

You'll be happy to hear then, that this has already been implemented in LBP2. You can add a specific category to every Costume, Sticker, and Object you create... then sort by that category. It's much easier to find things and keeps your popit neatly organized.

EDIT: For example, I am working on a series right now that involves different races of creatures. When creating, I simply click on the costume, sticker, or object once I've captured it, then select the category tag and enter a new one or pick from categories I've already created. So I've set up categories for the different races by name. I use the same category tags for any costumes I intend to use as sackbots, as well as specific stickers I use for each races colour palette, and any objects such as ships, bounce pads, or other physical items associated with each race.

I'm also working on a few other level ideas, so anything I work on in those levels gets tagged appropriately as well.

If you want to separate hearted things, all you would need to do is create a category called "Hearted" and add that tag to anything you actually heart (or not even bother hearting things anymore)

The LittlBIGgenie has granted your wish... you have two remaining.

2nd EDIT: Sorry, I just re-read your post and realized it's not exactly what you are saying. Still, it is a great system for organizing your popit.

It actually woudln't take you very long at all. Once a category is created, it's sitting right there in your popit all the time so it's not like you have to re-type the category every time. You simply click on the object, costume, or sticker... then choose the category you want to put it in and click on it. Easy peasy!

What you said almost sounds the same, but I don't know quite what you mean, can you add icons into your actual popit that you can put items into? Its almost what I'm asking, but imagine if you could just click start, choose a tag, and then everything in your level with that tag is highlighted, it could have so many uses

Edit: Okay I've just re-read what you just said and it sounds exactly like what I mean, can you do this with your hearted objects?

Well, like I said...you'd have to create a "Hearted" category and then add all those hearted items into that category. I haven't played with it enough or checked any of my own hearted items to see how they are actually organized yet. I'll do a little test later and see what I can some up with for you. As for Icons.... no, there is no way to add a visual Icon... just text.

For example, I'm working on a Star Wars based level. Anything I create for that level, I add to the specific Star Wars category I've created. I then have a different category for my series I'm working on, and do the same with anything created for that level. When I open my popit, all the categories are listed at the top and anything not categorized remains in the bottom section of the popit.

I'll make a short video and see if I can post it for you to demonstrate what I mean.

I know what you mean, like in the stickers menu there are catagories for architecture and colours and stuff. But only you can add your own..?2010-10-25 20:34:00

Exactly. I've created a video featuring all the new popit features, and I should have it ip on YouTube in the next few hours. I'll post the link here and send you a PM when it's up. 2010-10-25 22:29:00

I know eh?! I think many of us have. I've done an in depth video of all the popit features and how you can use them to your advantage, but I had some background noise issues going on while I recorded it so I had to do it again. I'll post the new video tomorrow for sure though. For now, I'm off to bed.

Okay, I finally got the video up (it took forever). Anyways, on the first run through that got ruined by background noise I illustrated how you could set up a "Hearted" category of your own... but on the second run I forgot. Just imagine creating a Hearts category rather than the other one's I've created for myself. You'll get the idea... actually... I'm pretty sure you already do. Check the video out anyways, I'm sure you'll like some of the other neat new features I've pointed out.

I made a separate thread for it, so I'll just post a link to that thread here instead of to the video to avoid duplicate links in threads.

Hope it helps clarify some things for ya!
