RIP my PS3

Archive: 11 posts

Well, my PS3 just got YLOD, and it doesn't look like a problem with the cables. So long, 150$.

Perhaps we need a stickied thread called "My PS3 got YLOD", because it looks like a lot of people here are getting it lately.

4 TIMES!!!!

stop putting it somewhere where it builds up heat

Ohyeah some info you guys need to know or already know
YLOD happens when your motherboard breaks cause by Drastic Heat/Cold changes
if the motherboards gets hot and then again cold and then again warm it breaks

I only use it for like an hour a day. I was just using the browser when it shut off and started YLODing.

Question. If I take the hard drive out (so they can't wipe it), will they still repair it?

Depends who you mean by "they". If you mean Sony, they no longer offer repairs for YLOD'd PS3s, so they'll just send a refurb. Problem is, thanks to the encryption system, it won't be compatible with the drive, so you'll have to reformat it.

The only way to get your data back is send it to a third-party company for repair, or fix it yourself (http://www.yellowlight.co.uk/fix.php). It's actually not that hard to do - the most difficult bit for me was keeping track of the dozens of screws you have to remove.
