Be careful during his potty training, or else your carpet will have stains for years and you'll look back and have many regrets 2010-10-24 19:57:00

Put it on Dog training
and learn it some deciplin after a while
so if you walk with him then he doenst drag you but really walks with you
and buy some dental sticks (if you got them in your country)
works verry good at keaping theire teeth healthy

Dogs 101 goes on animal planet some times and I watch it a bit, though I got no dog :/ Something about puppy school and etc. And that it is good to make he/she socialize with others in the early days. That is how I remember it at least.2010-10-24 20:18:00

As soon as you get it, start training him to go doo his 'business' outside.
Believe me, the sooner you do it, the better.

Here are some tips:
Always feed him outside, near where you want him to leave his droppings, dogd tend to do that near where they eat.
Don't keep him inside too much until he's at least a bit trained. (Unless its freezing or there's a really heavy storm and such.)
If he does it inside the house (which most likely happen a few times at first.) as weird as it may seem, take him and stick his nose in it, and repeditely saying stuf like "no" and similar words, he'll soon learn "no" and such are negative words (sounds to them) and remember not to do that.
After he's trained, you can keep him inside and just take him out on his walks when needed, but be warned, this may happen very late, or very early, so get your schedule right, or get one of those little doors for dogs.

Other general tips:
Don't feed him whole bowls of food when he's little, he'll get fat.
Altho it may seem like too little, at first pups only need little less than a small bowl to eat.
Don't forget the water, and change it often if he doesn't finishes it within a day or two.

Preffered petting spots:
Behind he ear.(Scratch)
Chin. (scratch)
Top of the head. (Pet)
Back. (Pet)
Belly. (Scratch.)

That's all I can think from the top of my head, I'll post more if I remember anything else.

Hope that helps!

Huh? My dog never goes inside the house [anymore] and I feed her inside.

That's pretty controversial. I would recommend this.

If your dog goes outside, reward him with a treat (maybe even a few in the beginning), pet him, and talk in a happy tone of voice. It's good when positive things are grouped together, and the dog can understand they are positive things.

If you catch him in the act, yell at him and do something to make him know his actions are not ok. Physical force isn't necessary. Spraying the dog with water for the sudden temperature jolt is an example. You can also push him outside and leave him there on his own for a few minutes.

If you find he has left a mess in the house but you haven't caught him in the act, there isn't much you can do, because many dogs don't have the mind and memory to connect current discipline with past events.

Other stuff:

Make yourself seem like the dominate leader. When you walk your dog, it is important to control where he goes and not let him control you. When you have guests, let them greet you first and then greet the dog.

Schedules are very important and it takes a month on average (fact) for a dog to develop an internal clock for an event. Take him out and feed him at certain times. This lowers stress and establishes more organized and predictable behavioral patterns.

During training I said.
(It was in "During training tips.)

Later you can feed him inside or whatever.
Just need to stablish a "main spot" first.

Preferably yes as a puppy, but it's not completely necessary.

I am a cat person, because I do not have time to take care of a dog, but I think a boxer is a very good choice for a dog. My friend had a boxer named Shotzee, and she was one of the best dogs I've ever seen. Very cute, very loving, and very well-behaved.

I'm sorry I don't know more about dogs, but I do know that you should never get one if you don't have the time to spend with the dog.

Give it treats for doing things right when you say so, and stern words for doing something wrong. Stare them down, show them that they are the bottom of the heirarchy and are NOT allowed to attack or undermine humans

Also, whilst it's a puppy, you'll have to rush it to a designated "toilet" area when you think he/she needs to go - and praise them when they do. Don't tell them off for going in other places, otherwise it might think it's wrong to go to the bathroom all together!

Worked for my German Shepherd Good luck with your new friendship!!

Oh, and make sure they can grow up around cats, small children and old people at times so they get accustomed to them. Otherwise, they might creep your dog out later in life!!

If your dog has to stay inside, just buy him a decent cage to sleep in at night. He'll quickly know that this is his "space".
I don't own a dog personally but somehow I know more about dogs than my friend did with her dog XD
