In New Creators We Trust

Archive: 30 posts

I've just published my first 'spotlight' blog.
Check it out: In New Creators We Trust (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/entry.php?2236-In-New-Creators-We-Trust)
This spotlight is for all the people who need to be spotlighted. Anyone that hasn't been recognised for a level. Yes, Sketch, B3, AFP, Jeff, Coxy etc. are all amazing creators, but we don't always want every spotlight, all of the big names, and this is a chance for creators who aren't spotlighted because they're unknown, to get spotlighted

Sorry if I have offended any of the Spotlight Team. I only realised what I had worded when one of the mods sent me a PM saying that some people may misread it. I do apologise if I have offended anyone.

I've been spotlighted but only for a community project, so 'I' haven't done it myself yet.2010-10-24 14:42:00

The spotlight crew doesn't hold back spotlights if members are new. Look at extreme funkyness, that was a new guys debut level. If you are talking about people who are newer to the game and arent very good yet, just let them read tutorials and get the hang of the game, if they can create good-quality levels AND post them in the level/objects showcase, then it will be spotlighted. If you want to go ahead and do this no one's stopping you, but all you will be getting is levels that aren't very high quality or as fun to play as spotlighted levels. I suggest you just go around finding new members and giving them the link to the thread with all the best level tutorials.2010-10-24 14:55:00

While I think it's an excellent idea to highlight the work of up-and-coming creators, I want to second ricky's point that new creators DO get considered for the spotlight in a way that we consider to be fair. I suggest that the reason that is seams that long-established creators tend to get spotlit more often is for the very reason that they've been creating for a long time and have more practice.

Good luck with the feature anyway.

Thanks! I do agree with your point that they've been creating for longer and have more experience, but I just thought it might be nice, because I know when I started getting positive feedback, I was really encouraged to keep on making levels.2010-10-24 19:58:00

Hey man I love this idea (maybe because I got mentioned..) haha but seriously great idea. Seriously my level on there is just a rough draft of the final, which is uncomparedly (*-idly?) better.2010-10-25 01:58:00

Cheezebo, you should wait until the spotlight to write this, for all you know, some of those could get spotlighted.2010-10-25 20:26:00

In New Creators We Trust

This of which you have said occurred to me as rather anti-American. I am going to keep my distance with this thread.

I honestly cannot imagine for a moment that CheezeBo is politically motivated by anti-American sentiment to start a feature about up-and-coming creators...

...or is that just part of his plan to bring down Western Democracy?

Agreed, I highly doubt any LBP PSP creator is going to express any anti-american views or anything like that!

Hey all,

I think we can agree that Cheezebo isn't making a political statement with this. With that said, please stay on topic.

In my opinion, I don't see anything wrong here. Cheezebo isn't dissenting from the Community Spotlight; he's merely presenting his opinions on levels that he feels should get more attention. And there's nothing wrong with sharing levels you like.

I'll be keeping an eye on this...

I really like this idea, I always like trying out new creator's levels. Whereas I know what to expect from an AFP, Jeff, Spark, etc. level (not saying that they don't improve, its just, I expect them to raise the bar), new creators (while we're talking politically) are like third parties: they bring out new ideas, some mediocre, but many great that often don't get the recognition they deserve.

Edit: Felt that this paragraph sounded unintentionally pretentious and advertisish, I'll just say that as a new creator myself I support this cause.

Sorry about not being on track with the topic Jeffcu

I also think this thread will be very popular and is one of the best ideas I've seen lately. I don't think it'll take away from our top creators since it just helps recognize the unknown.

No worries guys. I don't even understand what you were talking about with the Anti-American business. Show's how clever I am in politics. I'm surprised how many of you actually quite like me doing this 'spotlight'. But thank you for supporting me!2010-10-26 06:52:00

ahh well im all for this.
promoting upcoming creators is realy your thing, partly cause you one o them.
it is also quite approprate to do it now-ish due to the recent rise in psp-ers at lbpc.
and i feel that that the underlyng governmental disscusion in this thread seems to have become a sub topic seeng as it has been mentioned in almost every post since its original appearence.

i like this idea and think that it is a way of showing people that new creators can create awesome levels but often are corverd by the pro-creators' spotlight provoking shadows and to be honest some of the less recognised creators push the limits of lbp more than the pros who create good levels with interaction and plot but can become very samey while the new ones seem to try more but end up making the level look overcrowde and unproffesional but do have great inventions to achive harder tasks but pehaps are pushing the boundaries too much and not concentrating on the plot and expierence of the level and too much on the tech

i include myself in the trying too hard and making it look like a fail category

i appologise if anyone reads this differently than how i intended it to be read as i am not trying to offend anyone or be anti american just giving a small amount of constructive critism

and i am a noob and have only created about 5 levels and some of which are lessthan 2 stars and rather primative and frankly rubbish
