this movie could be very interesting. But the soundtrack is all from Daft Punk, one of my favorite music groups, so the music will be awesome.2010-10-23 22:01:00

The style of the series seems to have changed alot, and it's done intentionally. They're seeing this as how the world of Tron evolved over the 20 years the series's been in hiatus... Word of God is the Darker and Edgier feel is due to some villain having taken strict control of the se3rver the world is located on (the trailers imply this to be Clu 2.0, Kevin Flynn's remake of his original program in Tron).

Seriously, though, it looks awesome.

I don't think I have even seen the original though, only played through that section in Kingdom Hearts lol.
Add a trailer to the OP!

As I've quite the crush on Ms. Wilde I do plan to attend the midnight premiere. The film does look quite good, too. I am a fan of the original though I've not seen it in since more youthful days.2010-10-24 05:28:00

I hope movie makes huge success only because it looks epic.
Just look at the movie poster!

Let's not forget there's Tron Legacy DLC costume available if you pre-order LBP2 from Gamestop!

I'm pretty excited to check this out too. I loved the original.

When I was at PAX they had this set up with a light cycle... very cool stuff.

If your not familiar with the original film's plot - you should see it.... or read this.

It's out, it's awesome, and the soundtrack? Oh mah gawh. The movie is a treat for your eyes, and a trip for your ears. It was fantastic. Daft Punks soundtrack made this movie so much better than what it would've been without it, and it would still be awesome then. So yeah, it rocks.

Just listen to some of it;

I think it's gonna blow the original out of the water. It was a cool idea, but kinda lame. The sequel looks way more action packed, and of course it will have better effects.2010-12-18 03:32:00

I noticed that a lot of the characters actually said the titles of the songs before they came on Like 'End of Line', 'Rinzler', and some others.

It's connected, it's got some of the same characters, and there's lots of references to the first.

See Original Tron 6 hours before the midnight release

Meh movie, mediocre characters, fairly cliche story, has some cool ideas. Amazing visuals for it's time, really groundbreaking for movie making in that day and age.
Felt a little long at 1 hour 30 minutes.

See Tron Legacy

Slightly better movie, still has mediocre characters, still a cliche story, and still has a couple of cool ideas. Amazing visuals again, but nothing as groundbreaking as the first one.
Feels really long at 2 hours 20 minutes.

Honestly, I think both movies could have been summed up and adequately told in about 1 hour 15 minutes each. No joke.
Also, why the hell is the movie called Tron when that character was only mildly important in the first movie, and infinitely less so in the second movie?

Well, Flynn isn't as catchy, but Space Paranoids might have been a good title.

Is Flynn the villain in the newer Tron?

You're not going to damper my enthusiasm Aquas. I WILL SEE IT BEFORE IT LEAVES THE BIG THEATER! (There are two theaters in my city, one where movies go right away, and the other one where they go after that for $2/ticket. Only the big theater - big as in more size and bigger number of theaters and newer movies - shows stuff in 3D.)2010-12-19 02:20:00

Kind of, he has an avatar called CLU who is the villain. CLU is pretty much CGI Jeff Bridges, and it's kind of creepy at times.

Also, Legacy is a sequel to tron, so changing it's main name would be weird.

And Clu is the yellow dude you get from the Collector's edition.

From what I can guess, I assume it is Flynn's son who gets sucked into the computer?

Man, I want to go see it, but mum says the acting looks bad (she says she can't stand Jeff Bridges) and that it just doesn't look very good, even though I tell her don't knock it before you try it, but chances are we aren't gonna see it. :/

When I was at Comic-con, some of the cast was there and the director and they had a panel for the movie where they should exclusive footage. Then, they said they wasnted to do something that hasn't been done before and hade mics det up in the auditorium and had a "follow the bouncing ball" type thing for the audience, explaining that they were going to use our crowd sounds for the crowd scenes in the movie.2010-12-20 05:32:00

Well, Jeff Bridges is getting a ton of praise for his role in this.

Ok, the scene where Derezzed starting playing and Jeff Bridges came into the club was sooo epic, it made him seem like God. (which I guess he kinda is in the Grid.) It gave me chills.

I haven't seen Legacy, but must admit my interest is piqued! As an old-timer, It seems a little unfair to me to compare these two movies... If the first compares favourable at all to the second... well that don't bode well for Legacy. Tron was not a 'state of the art' movie. It was a state of 'the unheard of art'. Or simply 'the state' --of things to come... It was old-school Disney, and had a great quarter gobbling tie-in, in the Arcades. Must admit I spent quite a lot of time playing the intellivoice game Tron solar sailer at home as well.

While Legacy production values look out of this world... the commercials leave me with the taste of cheez in my mouth. I see the sequel cashing in 'visually'-- as the hope and promise the first film tried to hint at... I don't have a lot of confidence it will be remembered as fondly as its' predecessor...

Here's to hoping for a jolly 3-d ride!

Saw it for FREE in IMAX 3D at a special preview screening.

... meh, it's not bad.
Your typical hollywood cheeseburger of a film... a Keanu Reeves "You are the chosen one" story-line.
The lead had a vacuum for a personality, all the charisma and acting ability of a baloon on a stick.

The games sequences were quite cool (light disk/light bikes), but I thought the young Jeff Bridges looked like a character from a final fantasy cutscene... .they still have a ways to go before they achieve true life-like CGI faces.
I like that they didn;t over-use the 3-D effect, they kept it mainly for perspective and depth rather than having loads of stuff jumping out of the screen trying to poke your eyes out. It meant that the one time they did use it it worked brilliantly, the entire cinema gave a little jolt in their seats.

And Plot Holes? You got 'em!

How?
The CGI for Jeff's face was waaaaaay better than Final Fantasy CGI, but you can tell quite easily, if you're a gamer, when something's CGI. They did a good job on it though. Also, I don't think anyone's mastered like-like CGI faces
For example:

How?
Because when I try and remember his face, all I have is a balloon on a stick - he made no impression on me what-so-ever. Could be the least compelling lead role I've ever seen in a film.
&
The faces in a FF cutscene are as near photo-realistic as Jeff Bridges face in this... I think you are doing a disservice to FF's cutscenes - I wouldn;t say it was "waaaaay" better - just a "teeeeny" bit better

I'm just saying the movie isn't without some very obvious flaws, but then again so are most movies. I had some issues with Tangled as well, but I still thought it was fantastic.
Summed up, Tron Legacy is decent.

Just saw it today... and tbh, this (to me) is equal to the original. Not better, but not worse.

Now... for Christ's sake, make an INTERESTING STORY to compliment on them special effects! I mean, seriously?! The whole "cloned doppleganger" thing got old after Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, and that bombed harder than Nagasaki. And please, if you have a movie called "TRON", at least have the guy named TRON appear in it for more than 10 seconds!! Disney, I love yah, but please, make a decent Tron story... Or else I'll have to write the story MYSELF!!...

Then again, I don't really see Tron movies for the story; I see them for the effects, and, my gawd, the effects were KILLER.

However good the cgi for jeff's face was, is wasn't good enough to be even vaguely convincing. The animations and expressions reminded me of prince charming from shrek lol.

other than that the film was visually and aurally fantastic, and i'm very much in love with the girl in it. But it kinda ends there really, there is nothing else. There is only the slightest bit of plot and even that was apparently too much for the writers to keep up.... I can imagine the last half hour of script just reading 'whatever'

Minor geeky gripe:

Saw this and have to admit to having a pretty easy time enjoying it. If all else fails in this movie - and at times, all else spectacularly fails - there's always the pretty pictures and music waiting comfortably beneath you as a safety net. At its absolute worst, it's a breezy trip through a pretty world. And also I got a certain thrill out of how beautifully they filmed my home city of Vancouver.

That said, the movie itself was just an empty joke. Had all the images of an epic - revolution, war, religion, awe, beauty, tragedy... but just these bones, and no meat to make them feel real or engaging. Now for some wee spoilers.

As Rich mentioned, the girl (Olivia Wilde) in this movie is ridiculously easy to fall in love with, and so any reasonable human being is just waiting for the obvious love story to come out and make itself known... except... it never does. There is no love story. She's just... THERE. And he's just... there. She's built up, briefly, as something of a "leeloo" character, the last and only of her kind, necessary to protect and keep alive at all costs. Except that fact seems to just be forgotten by the main characters later on and it doesn't seem to hold any actual bearing on the plot or characters. Her whole story goes nowhere except for one tiny little moment at the very very end on the back of a motorcycle. That's it? That's all we get? A scene that probably should have happened halfway through this movie but instead acts as the final ending?

Sorry movie, you suck. But you sure are all kinds of pretty.

I didn't know beforehand that it's animated and didn't pay that much attention to the face and I was completely fooled. I didn't realize it was a younger Bridges. Same goes for a friend I went with (the other friend noticed the animation). And another girl who went to see it didn't realize it was animated at all. You can call us blind, but that's what happened. Probably if I had seen any Bridges's movie from 20 years ago I would've realized it was an animation and noticed the shenanigans.

I'm sure if you know it's there it'll be easy to spot. But I think it was quite convincing. Loved the other special effects and use of 3D as well. Much more mature use of 3D than in Avatar imo. Too bad the movie itself was quite hollow.

& Avatar wasn't?

It annoys me that Avatar is the highest grossing movie of all time, and nominated for 9 oscars!!!
Despite being derivitive tripe that could have been written on the back of a postcard by a 12 year old; "Dances with wolves with Aliens";

For me it highlights how up it's own backside hollywood is that it would produce tripe like this and then congratulate itself in such a masturbatory fashion.

Or it highlights exactly how out of touch with popular opinion I am

I think a low budget film like "Moon" was infinately better sci-fi than the likes of Avatar or Tron.

I don't care what anybody else says about it. I liked it. I saw it in 3D, which most of the people I know that saw it didn't do, and have to say something about the use of 3D in it. VERY well done. When I was watching the previews beforehand, there was a trailer for the next POTC movie and to me it looked like a POTC/Paper Mario crossover, with the images looking like they were different flat layers, not really 3D. However, when the movie started showing things in 3D, it blew me away. Now, I've seen about 5 or 6 3D movies before and they either did that horrible red-and-blue thing that ruins the color, or they did that thing I mentioned before, like papercrafts. Not Tron Legacy. Curved surfaces looked curved, and best of all, there were hardly any shots that wouldn't be so cool without the 3D. A couple, but that's forgivable, unlike in that Brendan Frazer Journey to the Center of the Earth piece of crap. Really good graphics and the costumes weren't lit up post-production, either. As a movie by itself, it was pretty good. I saw it in IMAX 3D, and if I had been wearing earplugs it probably would have been one of the best movies I've seen all year. The major problem I had was that I've seen the original. Even then there were issues with the movie, one of the major examples being the bike that the movie went through the effort of explaining to us was built by Flynn and was the fastest on the grid. Then ten seconds later it's given away to some random program as a distraction and we never see it again. Wtf?

Having seen the original, there were many more problems. It seemed they were banking on nostalgia to override good film making. Everything that the first film built in originality and mythology was kind of thrown away. The first Tron established a world that was literally meant to be a more anthropomorphic version of what the world inside a computer looks like. Like you could walk around and meet a program that said "Hi! My name is Java!". This movie threw all that away. The best part of Legacy that really epitomized what you are supposed to do with a sequel was Daft Punk. They acted as an update that integrated beautifully into the world of Tron. Overall, the storyline and handling of the movie wasn't nearly as good as it could have been.

That being said I still enjoyed it while I was there. This is just my critical perspective on it.

Over-all I would say the music was one of the only good things... it managed to be nicely futuristic, while at the same time being very retro 80's.. perfectly fitting the mood of the film.

And the chick's quite hot in her skin tight, buttock hugging rubber
