Windows 7; Microsoft's new OS

Archive: 10 posts

Windows 7 will not contain anything like the kind of far-reaching architectural modifications that Microsoft made with Windows Vista. Vista brought a new display layer and vastly improved security, but that came at a cost: a significant number of (badly-written) applications had difficulty running on Vista. Applications expecting to run with Administrator access were still widespread when Vista was released, and though many software vendors do a great job, there are still those that haven't updated or fixed their software. Similarly, at its launch many hardware vendors did not have drivers that worked with the new sound or video subsystems, leaving many users frustrated.

It's basically Vista with better coding, from what I understand. What do you guys make of this?

The truth is, I'm a big fan of Windows. I might not care for Microsoft in every instance, but I just get more out of my system when I'm running Windows. Don't have much use for Macs; they're okay for personal use but - in my opinion - are in no way practical in the modern workplace. Flavors of Linux are great, but - again - going up against Windows as an operating system really is a losing battle as far as the business world goes.

That being said, I don't absolutely hate Vista. It's not my favorite OS, but it's not the worst either. That being said, I'm looking forward to Windows 7. Windows ME was trash. What was the follow-up not even two years later? The very reliable Windows XP. I'm hoping the same thing will come to pass between Vista and Windows 7.

Windows Vista really is underrated. And overly attacked. Vista isn't my standard, but I use it fairly often, and I find it very, very slick in what it does. And I've had zero problems with it. Period. And it's not like I've been stuck to web browsing and word processing, either. Now, it's not like I'm dying to upgrade all my computers to it, but I like it well enough. The only thing I've run into is a family member with a Vista desktop, and trying to install a rather outdated printer. Soon after the turn of the century, if I remember correctly. The company just didn't create drivers for Vista, and that was that.

On a similar topic, I'm convinced that printers need to get a standard set of instruction code, and have the drivers built into the box. Plug it in, and it takes care of itself. Installing printers is such a hassle.

With that said, Windows 7 looks slicker than Vista. Hopefully, this will have that extra level of stuff that Vista didn't. (Although you have to admit that Vista sounds cooler than just 7.)

im on the same pages as you guys, i have had no problems with vista in the long run. my biggest issue was installing the printer on my grandmothers computer but nothing a little updating of drivers couldn't handle. 3 out of the 6 computers in my home are running vista and everything is networked and running great. i never get why people have so many issues with vista and everyone i have personally talked to or chatted with have had none or next to none.

and 7 does sound lamer than vista.... ROFL

Perhaps...Windows 7 is just the working/prototype title? Much like Windows Longhorn? (Although being a Texan, I would not mind them keeping that title.)

Also...where are they coming up with seven? If you take Windows 3.1 as a starting point, and have that begin at 3, then it's more of...ten. Give or take ME. It has to be a working title. Windows 7 just isn't very marketable. (But considering the recent quality of their advertisements... *coughmercials*...I'm wondering what the sales team is up to.)

Seems to be the official title. At least that's what Microsoft is claiming at this point. They like the simplicity of the name and think it's representative of what they're trying to deliver with their next OS.

EDIT: And, yes, this really isn't the 7th OS from Microsoft. I guess they just want to forget about all of those other semi-official releases.

I love Vista, I'm a very proud user of it.

Personally I think its the best OS I've ever used.

I hope Windows 7 just continues the awesome.

I'm looking forward to Microsoft 7 it does look very promising atm I have 2 Macbook pros and one vaio and a PC running vista. And to be honest they both have their positives and their negatives. I think Microsoft generally does get over attacked on vista but the most worrying it is people who don't know anything about vista, or tried it. But Im Mac/PC lol2008-11-01 10:22:00
